September 15, 200618 yr Parent's don't have the right to smack them. They have the right to love their kids. I have no doubt that when you have kids Lucy that you will be an excellent mother and your kids will be bought up to be well behaved members of society but there are a lot of bad parents out there too who have the same attitude as you do and as a result breed delinquents, I know that will not be the case with you but it is with a lot of parents
September 15, 200618 yr Author Teachers have to earn respect though. Some teachers are brilliant, can do their job well and keep the attention of the class without needing to cane anyone. I can't really see it being brought back, I really hope not anyway.
September 15, 200618 yr Author I just really hate violence, of any kind. Stuff like that on tv has brought me to tears. Edited September 15, 200618 yr by x-The_Royston_Poisoner-x
September 15, 200618 yr Sorry if any of my views caused any offence they were not intended to do so, like I said its just a generation thing etc, attitudes were completely different in 70's and 80's and thats when I was bought up
September 15, 200618 yr Author Even if it was a chav though, I still couldn't put them in any pain. Just couldn't do it.
September 15, 200618 yr I never want to have kids as I never want to have another relationship again in my life but if hypothetically I did I would not oppose my partner giving my son or daughter a smack on the backside or on the wrist to punish them for naughty behaviour, not so much a punishment but more a deterrent from future acts I would not condone out and out violence against the child were I a parent but smacking the bottom of a child having tantrums and hissy fits as a means of deterring them from future repetition would be something I would accept

September 15, 200618 yr Author I couldn't smack a child though it would make me feel so bad :( and i doubt i could ever be with someone who could smack a child either....but everyones entitled to their own opinion I agree with you.
September 15, 200618 yr I couldn't smack a child though it would make me feel so bad :( and i doubt i could ever be with someone who could smack a child either....but everyones entitled to their own opinion I will give you an example of when I think it is acceptable I was in the supermarket last Sunday stocking up for the week and there was this kid who was denied sweets (he must have been about 5) shouting and screaming and stamping his feet and calling his mum a b**ch etc, if that had been my child it would have got a firm smack on the backside from my partner as that kind of behaviour is not something that should be tolerated
September 15, 200618 yr Author the child obviously must have heard the parent say that in order for them to say it, therefore, bad parenting. If you smack it in the shop, not only does it humiliate the child, it makes you look bad, and people might start talking. Edited September 15, 200618 yr by x-The_Royston_Poisoner-x

If you smack it in the shop, not only does it humiliate the child, it makes you look bad, and people might start talking. Yeah but at the same time the child is humilliating the parent with its behaviour and people would be talking about the parent in a negative way maybe "if that was my child i would......" and so on I agree totally about the language thing The bad thing is that the mum relented and bought the kid the sweets just to shut him up  and now he has got away with it once he will know exactly what to do every time he doesn't get his own way
September 15, 200618 yr Author But at least she didn't hit him, good for her. It's only a packet of sweets, and he was about 5.
September 15, 200618 yr Author If she had hit him, he probably would have cried 10 times worse, mums need to do shopping in peace, so buying him sweets to keep him quiet wasn't wrong.
September 15, 200618 yr Yeah but now he knows that all he has to do is shout and scream anytime he wants anything then I just think it sets a dangerous precedent, ok it was only a packet of sweets this time but it could be a £100 toy the next time or an X Box360 or whatever or something else she can barely afford or not afford he demands and shouts and screams because he wants, I think the parent has to be the boss not the kid I think a smacked bottom would have shown the kid that he can't have all his own way
September 15, 200618 yr Author Hmm, we should just end this because I'm never going to agree with you.
September 15, 200618 yr I remember when i was dead young tho, i was really gobby back then, and i used to shout at my nana and give her dogs abuse in public! the only reason i stopped was cos one day she had enough and smacked me round the legs for gobbibg off! from then i knew where the bounderies were and ultimatly i felt more happy and secure! I'm glad i was smacked and i dont think any1s got the right to tell a parent (a parent who loves there child more than anything) that addressing bounderies is wrong! :P
September 15, 200618 yr Hmm, we should just end this because I'm never going to agree with you. Yeah I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one, I do respect your opinion and meant what I said that you will make a very good mother when you have kids but I don't see us agreeing on the discipline methods
September 15, 200618 yr I do think though that this thread has evolved so much it should be moved to Perspectives/World News though :)
