March 2, 201511 yr OK, now I've done so, and I've spotted some very interesting trends... 1. Urban albums have gained dramatically from streaming - most notably Beyonce & Eminem. 2. Rock albums have done well too, especially indie rock. 3. OTOH, MOR albums have been hit hard e.g. Take That, Gregory Porter Some of these trends are not at all obvious to me, but perhaps others here could shed more light on them? Three albums in the streaming T100 had not charted on sales all year : 41 NEW 1 Florence & The Machine ~ Ceremonials 66 NEW 1 Blink 182 ~ Greatest Hits 67 NEW 1 Fall Out Boy ~ Believers Never Die - Greatest Hits Not really surprising - urban and rock fans have traditionally never liked paying for their downloads, as a percentage versus other types of music. It will be interesting to see if it hits sales of, say Drake's new album. Beyonce did quite well with hers, though she has a massive fanbase. Older-appealing acts will inevitably get hit hardest as streaming steamrollers sales into increasingly an minor part of the charts, until the album chart ends up like the singles chart - years and years of the same stuff not moving.

Who *does* like paying for their music. :P Older-appealing acts will inevitably get hit hardest as streaming steamrollers sales into increasingly an minor part of the charts So you're suggesting Adele won't do that well on streaming with her next album?
March 3, 201511 yr I stream a lot nowadays. Why bother downloading for a song that I'm only ever going to listen to in the house (chill out stuff)? I download songs that I am likely to need on my phone - electronic/dance stuff.
March 4, 201511 yr OK, now I've done so, and I've spotted some very interesting trends... 1. Urban albums have gained dramatically from streaming - most notably Beyonce & Eminem. 2. OTOH, MOR albums have been hit hard e.g. Take That, Gregory Porter Some of these trends are not at all obvious to me, but perhaps others here could shed more light on them? Additionally, Greatest Hits albums have also gained significantly, since their streaming is likely to be more evenly spread over a range of tracks, rather than on just the big hits on most studio albums.
