Posted September 16, 200618 yr England international Owen Hargreaves could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a suspected broken leg. Hargreaves, 25, came off after 24 minutes of Bayern Munich's 2-1 league defeat to Arminia Bielefeld after colliding with an opposing player. "We think he may have a broken fibula. We will know more after an examination," said coach Felix Magath. The midfielder, a transfer target of Manchester United, cemented his place in the England team at the World Cup. Source: BBC Sport This is quite really bad news for England. :( He's relished his role as the holding midfielder since he's been given the role and England look a lot more solid unit. I guess Carrick could play the role for England but I don't think he's as suited to the role for England as Hargreaves is. I just wish Hargy a speady recovery. :( and hope his injury isn't as bad as first feared.
September 16, 200618 yr BUGGER! That's a HUGE blow for England :( and Man Utd possibly for that matter -_-
September 16, 200618 yr This is not good news at all, as I do not rate Michael Carrick to do the same role. If I was Steve Mclaren I would bring Jonathan Woodgate into the England Squad to play alongside John Terry & move Rio Ferdinand forward to the holding-midfield role.

If I was Steve Mclaren I would bring Jonathan Woodgate into the England Squad to play alongside John Terry & move Rio Ferdinand forward to the holding-midfield role. I don't think moving Rio would be a wise move TBH. Woody's playing well for Boro at the moment but I don't think he warrants a place in the England starting XI just yet. This may be a risky option but i'd play 4-3-3 for next set of qualifiers with Rooney (if his ban has finished. ), Crouch and Defoe.
September 16, 200618 yr Good news for Becks... .....Ummm first Aaron Lennon & now Owen Hargreaves..... Bad luck runs in three's so what price that Steve McLaren loses one more of his England midfielders to a serious injury tomorrow due to the Premiership big four playing each other. :o
September 16, 200618 yr Ledley King spent half a season for us in a midfield holding role and was brilliant at it plus if necessary can help out the defenders
September 16, 200618 yr Author Ledley King spent half a season for us in a midfield holding role and was brilliant at it plus if necessary can help out the defenders He did play well for Spurs and I think it was against France at the Euro's in 2004 that he played brillianlty for England as well. I'd still like to see Mclaren play 4-3-3 though.
September 16, 200618 yr I am very much a 4-4-2 or diamond formation man I would switch Rooney into an attacking midfield role My England team Goal Paul Robinson Full Backs Gary Neville Cashley Cole Centre Backs John Terry Rio Ferdinand Wide midfield Joe Cole Aaron Lennon Holding midfield Ledley King Attacking midfield Wayne Rooney Strikers Peter Crouch Andy Johnson Subs Robert Green Michael Dawson Steven Gerrard Frank Lampard Darren Bent
September 16, 200618 yr Holding midfield Ledley King Subs Ledley King ? Edited September 16, 200618 yr by RabbitFurCoat
September 16, 200618 yr Author Leave both Gerrard and Lampard out. :o I'd drop Lampard but not Gerrard. I don't think Johnson is an England player though. He's good at what he does but I think he's a bit over-rated and he gets quite lucky a lot of the time. He's still a good striker but I just don't think he'd be right for England. EDIT: Ozzy I edited your post to include Dawson in the subs instead of King. :D

Gerrard is an amazing player, in the premiership I would say he is one of the absolute best players in the world but for me give or take the odd goal he just hasn't reproduced his Liverpool form for England Rooney is a great player but I think he is not a natural goalscorer he is more a Teddy Sheringham style link player so I would give him an attacking midfield role behind 2 strikers to see how he goes
September 16, 200618 yr EDIT: Ozzy I edited your post to include Dawson in the subs instead of King. :D Thanks ^_^ Its been a long day I just wasn't concentrating as well as normal lol

September 16, 200618 yr Author Gerrard is an amazing player, in the premiership I would say he is one of the absolute best players in the world but for me give or take the odd goal he just hasn't reproduced his Liverpool form for England Rooney is a great player but I think he is not a natural goalscorer he is more a Teddy Sheringham style link player so I would give him an attacking midfield role behind 2 strikers to see how he goes I know what you mean about Gerrard for England. For the main part of his England carrer he's been played out of position though as Sven always saw him as the defensive midfielder out him and Lampard. Sven always favoured Lampard over Gerrard and whilst Lampard is a good player he's not as good as Gerrard. Still now Gerrard is played out of position for England. He's too versatile for his own good some times. If McLaren were to given the full freedom of the pitch and play him in the smae way Benitez uses him for Liverpool then i'm almost certain he's reproduce his club form. ^_^ I totally agree with you on Rooney but I feel playing him in that role will vent his furstration. IMO Rooney and Crouch don't play well together at all as a partership at all though as Rooney is always too deep for when Crouch flicks the ball on.
September 16, 200618 yr ------------Robinson------------ G Nevlille--Ferdinand--Terry--A Cole Beckham--Gerrard--Carrick--J Cole ---------Rooney----Crouch---- Subs: Carson Carragher King Downing Lampard Johnson D Bent If he hadn't packed up Scholes would get into my team 100% of the time! :(
September 16, 200618 yr Author ----------Robinson-------- G Neville Ferdinand Terry A Cole J Cole------Gerrard-----Downing Defoe------Crouch------Rooney Subs: Carson King Pennant Lampard Carrick Bent Johnson Thats what my team would look like for the upcoming qualifiers.
September 16, 200618 yr I know he got a couple of goals recently but I don't think Defoe is an international standard player, he has been abysmal in recent months for us and I wouldn't be sorry to see Jol sell him, he is a one trick pony With regards Rooney and Crouch Peter Crouch is undroppable, his stats for England are nothing short of sensational but I am not convinced him and Rooney can play well together
