The production on this is SO nice but it's such a 7/10 song and the so is just so long, it's the same few phrases repeated over and over for 5+ minutes. Glad she seems to have added it to Spotify already so hopefully this'll be a hit anyway.

The song confuses me so much. Like there's a lot to like about it and a lot to dislike as well. It feels like they had a really good idea for a song but it's nowhere near ready to be released yet.

And the video is strange too. It seems so... disconnected at first, just a bunch of US-relevant themes without any big link. And then at the end it's suddenly "look at how accepting we can be". Bah.

I really just cant get away with this at all - It feels like I have about 10 different windows open all playing varying levels of noise at the same time, its so distracting -_-
i want good riri back :(

She's long gone. She's down to ARTPOP style awfulness.

Jumped the shark.

OMG Lee's description is perfect - it's just a mash-up of noise like from 10 different youtube songs at the same time, that's it!!!!

The production on this is awesome. The song itself isn't doing anything for me though. It's pretty tuneless, which isn't necessarily a negative, but I actually got tired of it well before it finished and have no desire to re-listen. I agree with Umi in that the song+video combo seems to pretend to be more than it is. :/

Saying that, it wouldn't surprise me if it clicks and reveals its strength after multiple listens, much like a lot of Rihanna's more experimental stuff.

I don't often agree with you much, but this is definitely her ARTPOP.

Not a huge fan, sounds like a demo imo :(. It has potential but just doesn't really go anywhere.

This era is shaping up to be her worst by far.

Echoing everything else being said here. The song goes absolutely nowhere and her faux diction this era is so off-putting

Everything about this era just comes off as pretentious and Kanye trying to make her something she's not. Genuinely "her ARTPOP era" in terms of messiness and single choices, except I don't see this being her 'Do What U Want' even with that video. There is just no hype surrounding this song or its video, the GP aren't here for this era, I wouldn't be surprised if R8's opening week is lower than what ARTPOP's was, unless she can pull out some miracle era-saving song before the album release

BBHMM was actually the 2nd single, it had a full scale radio deal and was sent to pop radio, not only urban

BBHMM wouldn't have been as stable as it has been on the Hot 100 since its release if it weren't for its radio deal and initial airplay, her label saw that radio weren't here for it. It already began decreasing in airplay the last week and didn't crossover on pop radio, hence the rush-release of 'American Oxygen' which is being sent to radio next week (21 April)

This is the most recent airplay update I found for BBHMM:

US radio is very odd in how the pick up some urban songs but completely snub others. They completely hammered "Truffle Butter" but won't touch BBHMM and didn't touch "7/11".

It's so odd, especially because both soundlike urban smashes

Even Iggy's 'Beg for It' was hammered on all formats if I recall correctly. I think US radio see artists like Rihanna and Beyonce as mainstream pop artists and not the urban artists they try so hard to be, hence why songs like BBHMM and 7/11 have a hard time on rhythmic and urban, nevermind pop

Had BBHMM featured a rapper it may have been taken more seriously by the urban audience and done a bit better. They could've pushed a remix featuring someone whose hip at the moment, like Kendrick Lamar (?) and it would have ended up doing quite decently and crossing over properly

Ohhh nooo

So this is her 3rd single?? The first two passed by without much note and this too :/

Agreed with Kath - watch this open with less than ARTPOP. Unless there's some amazing single on it, and I doubt it seeing as Oxygen is their desperate 3rd single, maybe not even finished , I cant see anything saving it.

Brushing FourFiveSeconds off as something "that passed by without much note" is wrong in my opinion. It was a hit for Rih and it sold well

Cannot deny I am slightly disappointed by American O2 it's performance so far
