Midfielders: Ross Barkley (Everton), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), Ryan Mason (Tottenham), James Milner (Manchester City), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal). Forwards: Charlie Austin (QPR), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Jamie Vardy (Leicester) Danny Welbeck (Arsenal) First time call-ups for Heaton, Vardy and Austin. What do people make of the squad?
June 7, 201510 yr A dour draw against the Republic of Ireland today. Saw the match more like a training session at least there weren't any events like 1995.
June 7, 201510 yr England's squad is so weak. Full of players who are not in the regular starting xi of their respective clubs. Smalling, Jones, Jagielka, Bertrand, Llalana, Barkley, Townsend... Field that side against Stoke or Swansea and they would probably be screwed. Just B grade players.

Field that side against Stoke or Swansea and they would probably be screwed. Just B grade players. Can go as far as well as Walcott, Wilshere, Gibbs, Milner etc. aswell! Agree it's a very very average squad. We lack star quality.

I completely agree however all of those listed DO start regularly (except Townsend), that's why it's particularly worrying
June 7, 201510 yr Was about to say that they all are regulars lol. Was at the game today, good watch in the stands!
June 8, 201510 yr Llalana and Barkley weren't regular starters in the last couple of months of the season were they? Maybe I'm wrong though, which yes is even more worrying!
June 18, 201510 yr Faroe Islands over Greece again! Watched the entire game online. 49,000 in the country and 6,000 in the stands. That's 12% of the population at the game...amazing. Iceland keeps getting it done! To go down 0:1 in the second half against a resurgent Czech team and turn the game on it's head with 20 minutes was spectacular! Rooting for them and I think they are almost clinched as long as they don't slip up in their non-Dutch matches the rest of the way. Albania proving that they are coming along as well, winning their friendly versus France on the off-day. 2:1 aggregate against the French now, but still work to do in the group (that 0:3 award to Serbia really hurts). The two Wilshere goals were incredible and then how Rooney came right back after Slovenia got parody late...great moment.
June 18, 201510 yr Despite people saying qualifying would be a procession, it has actually been quite exciting across Europe. Only really England walking away with it, but World Cup qualifiers such as Greece and Bosnia out of contention plus Holland and Russia struggling it feels really open. Teams like Iceland, Wales, Austria and Poland would be a breath of fresh air if their qualifying is anything to go by!
June 18, 201510 yr Greece haven't even won a game at all and the Faroe Islands did the double on them.
June 19, 201510 yr Yeh its strange how when the top 3 teams have a chance to qualify everyone was saying it would make the qualifiers awful for the big teams but it has meant the bigger teams experiment more and the smaller teams have more to play for.
June 19, 201510 yr It's scary to think that Wales beating Belgium will put them top 10 in the rankings and they will be Seeded A for the World Cup draw which will be a huge accomplishment for them. It would be incredible to see Scotland,Wales & Northern Ireland in Euro 2016 next year.

June 19, 201510 yr This 24 team thing is so good. What with Iceland, Slovakia, Wales and Northern Ireland all likely to make their debut and pretty much no valuable teams missing, and even those that don't make it this time but have the ability to will be more likely to in the future, perhaps helping a few new national teams gain extra status. And if the actual competition goes anything like qualifying has, it'll be a blast.

It would be incredible to see Scotland,Wales & Northern Ireland in Euro 2016 next year. Don't know how reliable the "prognosis tool" on the FIFA website is, but this could be the top 10 come July... 01 | 1411 | Germany 02 | 1346 | Argentina 03 | 1244 | Belgium 04 | 1204 | Colombia 05 | 1204 | Netherlands 06 | 1177 | Portugal 07 | 1166 | Romania 08 | 1157 | England 09 | 1155 | Wales 10 | 1143 | Brazil Imagine that.
June 19, 201510 yr Ukraine with 12 pts look like being the automatic 'best 3rd placed qualifier! Yeh mad about the world cup seedings i thought it went by various tournaments not just the last qualifiers meaning Wales will be top 10 in the world lol. Ireland will be in pot 4 :( Edited June 19, 201510 yr by steve201
June 19, 201510 yr Yeah FIFA rankings are horrendous. Is Wales really the 9th best team in the world over Brazil? Brazil may have been destroyed by Germany in that WC Semifinal but they are the best team in the world still in my estimation. I'm not saying my rankings are gospel, but they are more accurate than the FIFA rankings. ELO Ratings are also very good. Here's my current Top 20 (been running this thing since 2012): 1) Brazil 2) Colombia 3) Belgium 4) Argentina 5) France 6) Germany 7) Spain 8) Netherlands 9) England 10) Ukraine 11) Uruguay 12) Chile 13) Russia 14) Mexico 15) Croatia 16) Switzerland 17) Slovakia 18) Portugal 19) United States 20) Austria 44) Wales (Projected for Top 30 with next month's rankings) 27) Romania (I'm sorry they are not #7 in the world!) I'd expect France & Italy to still comfortably defeat Wales. I still think Ireland are better than Wales. Scotland have such an incredibly difficult qualifying group and it's incredible that they have such a good chance of qualifying. We need at least 7 points out of 12 with 3 needing to be against Poland.
