It's a bit strange that it didn't manage 1 million over that chart run given that Earthsong, Gangsta's Paradise, Wonderwall and whatever Robson and Jerome were peddling back then all did and were the tracks that were holding Missing back from number 1.

I guess the same could be said of Janet Jackson's Together Again in 1997/98.

Not a huge fan of Tracy Thorn's voice but Missing is a well-crafted and sophisticated remix.

Speculation on 1996 welcome.

A fantastic bit of progressive house that managed to go top 20 just before Christmas 1995, hugely underrated track:

Although I don't see 1996 being much of a year (Sash!, Sash! and more Sash!?) looking forward to seeing this thread back on page one.

Your memory of 1996 doesn't serve you very well at all.

By the way - This thread will be resumed this evening.

Baby D - So Pure

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/tonyttt31/so_pure.jpg

Date 7th Jan 1996

2 Weeks

Official Chart Run 3-4-10-19-29-42-64 (7 weeks)

*Positions in red are the weeks when the track would be number 1 if just dance music was chart eligible.

Mystery solved. Here we have the third and final appearance of Baby D with So Pure, taking advantage of some slow weeks in January to grab a few weeks as the best selling single in the UK at the expense Everything But the Girl's Missing.

All three of their entries in this rundown come from the same album, Deliverance, which, having been spread over 15 months probably constitutes the largest time range of tracks from a single album from a band in this run down.

So Sure is more piano and drum and bass which if it wasn't for a nice synth line and a murky breakdown would be quite featureless. One the whole, a less interesting prospect than their previous hits.

They'd only trouble the charts twice more and one of those times would be with a remix of Let Me Be Your Fantasy in 2000.

As we saw in the chart run for the previous number 1, Everything But the Girl would overcome Baby D to take one more week as the best selling dance single in the UK.

the todd terry rmx of 'missing' is a mega jam  :music:
So Pure is actually my Baby D favorite track.
Not actually sure I know 'So Pure' but a good act to start the year off.
Great track by Baby D, but I must stay I couldn't remember it. I still prefer the fantastic Let Me Be Your Fantasy

I think they were running on fumes at this stage, but that's my opinion. I couldn't remember ever hearing So Pure before yesterday.

Next entry will be a divisive one, to say the least. :D

I have absolutely no recollection of that Baby D follow-up whatsoever.

I think I know what's coming next, and it is likely to be the only gabber entry on this list? (If I'm right).
