Dannii's "All I Wanna Do": Flawless song! :D The "Girl" singles & the rest of her output afterwards would truly prove to be marvelous. :D

Freed From Desire is amaze, another classic <3 I always thought she was saying 'tromboleens' even though I'm aware that isn't even a word. Sounded like a type of trousers or something.

“All I Wanna Do” marked just about the only moment in Dannii’s career where she was ahead of sister Kylie (Kylie was entrenched in her indie phase at this point and would not trouble the Top 10 again until 2000).

It also marked as you say the first Xenomania chart credit, a springboard from which they were able to craft numerous #1s in the following decade.

I wonder is AQUA eligible to this countdown.

All will be revealed

Really glad that there is agreement that Dannii should have been included, here. It was a borderline case, for me.
What would have been on the list instead of Dannii?
For me Rosie Gains, Ultra Nate, Gala, and Dannii Minogue always sum up that summer so no complaints here at her inclusion.
"All I Wanna Do" is one of Dannii's best, a top tune. The immediate follow-up "Everything I Wanted" was excellent as well. Those two and "Who Do You Love Now" from a few years later, I consider to be Dannii's three best.

Gala would have had an extra week.

Doesn't matter too much then. Was Dannii really furthering the cause of trampolines though?

DJ Quicksilver - Free

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/tonyttt31/free.jpg

Date 31th Aug 1997

1 Week

Official Chart Run 7-11-23-32-37-56-73 (7 weeks)

*Positions in red are the weeks when the track would be number 1 if just dance music was chart eligible.

After Dannii hands the baton back to Gala for another week we encounter DJ Quicksilver again. And within three months we have another number 1 called Free (not taking into account Gala's freedom based song, either)

But strangely just for one week. Unlike Bellissima's 8 week run in the Top 10 Free exits swiftly. Perhaps it's the "more of the same" factor that blights a lot of follow ups to huge hit singles. Free certainly didn't attract the public in quite the same way. It's quite a similar pattern to the one Robert Miles experienced with his first 2 hits.

For some, and I am one of them, DJ Quicksilver's second hit is by far the most enjoyable one. The layers seem more refined and the strings even lend it a dramatic and sophisticated climax. It is really a shame that this wasn't the song that went on to sell 400,000 as it seems to me that he perfected his formula with this. I distinctly remember this be played in a club in Aug 1997 and being blown away by the wonderful build to the whole thing. I'm a sucker for layers anyway.

Perhaps I'm alone in loving it, on Buzzjack,

This is the last we hear from the DJ in this rundown but not the last we her from the Positiva imprint.

I lost the content of the post on Dannii's song because I edited it and saved DJ Quicksilver over it! :(

Free is certainly just as worthy of a long chart run as Bellissima, I'm not as familiar with it but it has the same sort of similarly great elements that made Bellissima such a fantastic track so no complaints at it getting a moment here.

And over the last couple of pages, I should have checked this thread when Ecuador was posted and all the discussion on tracks with country names was going on, I find title categorisation fascinating (and as such have concluded that there are far too few tracks named after countries - although, it seems appropriate to mention today, I found a track named Panama on my iTunes by Australian ska band The Cat Empire). And Ecuador itself I've always found incredibly enjoyable, it's a bit ridiculous but it definitely brings a smile to my face each time.

I actually discovered 'Free' before 'Bellissima' but I much prefer 'Bellissima', there's definitely something more to it.

Thanks Iz, for the comment.

I think Free has aged a lot better but perhaps that is just me.
