Madonna's record sales have been RIAA ratified - Maybe you should check out Warner Bros website. This story was also run on Billboard.com website in August.

 

As for Madonna's sales, a lot of them come from back catalogue sales. The Beatles back catalogue sells around 20 million a year; Elvis 15 million a year; etc. So Madonna could easily sell 90million if you include her newer albums as well.

 

As for Nana Miskouri, that is a famous Wikipedia inaccuracy whereby someone added an extra 0 to her sales & Wikipedia ran with it to hilarious consequences.

 

In the meantime do you have an album by album & single by single breakdown of Celion Dion's record sales? I very much doubt it. Let's face it is because she has not got close to Madonna's or Mariah's sales.

Well if they were inaccurate, why did they (RIAA, Soundscan, IFPI, Billboard, etc.) do a count then? They didn't have to do that, but they did, just to prove she really was the world's best selling female artists (in terms of albums) ever.

 

Mariah got the award a few years earlier, because of sales exceeding 100 million albums.

 

Celine's Diamond Award is also different than Mariah's.

They have. Like I said above, they did a counting of Celine's album sales, especially for the World Music Awards.

 

Celine sold, from 1987 to August 31st, 2004, a total of 174,436,400 albums worldwide. Not counting the sales of her first twelve (French) albums, which were recorded before her contract with Sony (1987). And between August 31st, 2004 and now she has released a couple more albums and her backcatalogue is still selling well. There.

 

Madonna is the best selling female artist, albums & singles combined. Although Mariah has had a fair bit of succes the last 1,5-2 years (than Celine), doesn't mean she's the best selling female artist (perhaps she's even #2, behind Madonna, with album & singles combined).
