Another quarter of the year has passed which means this feature of the Thermo Hot 50 will return, that is of course the quarterly Hot 50 :cheer: And this time we have it for quarter 2!

There will also be a short update on how the overall YTD is looking, with points from quarters 1 and 2 combined.

It will start with numbers 50 to 41 shortly.

For the second quarter in a row 'Somebody' appears in the 41-50 section, it was #44 in the first quarter, showing some great stability here, but it will very likely not appear in quarter 3 as it's just about to drop out the hot 50.

The first 2 Armin van Buuren entries of 3 appear together, with 'Together' falling from last quarter's #5 down to #48, just a place above the follow up 'Panta Rhei' which was quite good but didn't match the quality of the former.

BJSC winner A-WA and plug dj fave Countess Luann make splashes in the top 50 also with their respective ikonik songs, with Martin Garrix slotted between them. It is his only appearance in the top 50, although he does have a 2nd song in the top 100, 'The Only Way Is Up' with Tiesto which is at #90.

Kygo has 3 entries in the top 50 of which 'ID' is the first of them. He nearly had 4 however 'Stole the Show' only makes it to #51. My Digital Enemy is a place ahead and leading the section is 'Something Else' which was #11 last quarter.

40 150 Calvin Harris feat. Haim ~ Pray to God (Calvin Harris vs. Mike Pickering Hacienda Remix) ...17-22-38-26-22-32-x-50-x • 7 weeks

'Pray to God' had already peaked off the back of the album but Calvin Harris' new remix of it brought it back in the chart for many weeks and so it enters the top 40 this quarter after having missed the top 50 last quarter.

A place above is CamelPhat with the lush 'Paradigm' which spent a single week in the top 10, helped of course by being a BJSC entry. Another BJSC entry appears in this section at #34, from Diviners which I discovered from Spinning Adam.

Loreen made her comeback and got her third top 5 Thermo hit, which is 3 more than every other Eurovision winner ever so well done to her. She still knows how to make a great dance-pop song. A place above is the Ce Ce Peniston sampling 'Finally' and Alesso's latest single 'Sweet Escape'. Alesso will be making another appearance much later on with 'Cool', which could be a #1 contender.

Michael Calfan drops 10 places since the last quarter countdown with 'Treasured Soul' which is a place behind Kygo's 2nd entry, a remix of classic r&b anthem 'Sexual Healing'. It is not the only tropical house song in the section however, as the formerly mentioned Diviners track as well as Matoma's 'Old Thing Back', a remix of dead rapper The Notorious B.I.G are also here.

30 182 Duke Dumont ~ The Giver (Reprise) 45-7-7-10-4-... • 5 weeks

Duke Dumont came back with a revised version of 'The Giver', which I much prefer to the original version and returns him to the quality level of 'Need U'/'I Got U' rather than 'Won't Look Back'. It should be in for another quarterly chart appearance as it is currently at #4 in the hot 50.

Three Danaelandan BJSC entries appear as well, 'Boss', 'Found Your Love' and the BJFest entry 'Thinking About You', which is the highest of the three although will probably end up the lowest in the actual end of year chart.

At #28 is Armin's highest entry, his first single from his next album which I initially loved but I grew off it quickly as the chart run shows. Hopefully he has better songs on the album.

Years & Years climb to #26 from last quarter's #36 with 'King', which finally peaked at #3 towards the start of the quarter. A place above is 'Ruffnek' which most of you probably haven't heard but it's a good housey tune.

Usher brings the swag to the countdown at #24 and Disclosure's comeback single enters at #22 helped by 4 weeks top 10. Topping the section however is 'Can't Stop Playing' which re-peaked this quarter thanks to the UK release and vocal remix.

Can't Stop Playing is #22 on mine, very close  It really is a tune, the instrumental just excites me every time because of how loud and BAM it is, I'm a fan of the vocal edit to because Ane's vocals are so unusual and endearing.

Feel like I'm going off BBHMM more now, I adored it when it first came out but I definitely burned it out quickly and now I'm not massive on the odd video either :( Visually impressive just not what I want from a music video :P

Some great tracks in here so far Dan! Especially approving of King and Somebody  BBHMM is the best thing this era from RiRi for me although I'm not feeling it a huge amount still :(

I really love both versions of Can't Stop Playing, even though the vocal took a while to get used to it's great. BBHMM is great but I went off it weeks ago, was kinda hoping we'd get a video for it back when it was actually popular rather than months later, will have to give it a watch sometime though. I hear it's v. naughty :whip:

both of those are great! I have a feeling you'll deffo approve of something else that's in the top 20~

FourFiveSeconds says hello :hi: That is actually my fave of the era so far although it's not her best song ever, the era isn't her best really.

my last.fm stats for the era;

70 - FourFiveSeconds

30 - Bitch Better Have My Money

8 - American Oxygen

19 242 Blonde feat. Alex Newell ~ All Cried Out 36-13-9-10-16-25-31-38-39-x • 9 weeks

20 240 Omarion feat. Chris Brown & Jhené Aiko ~ Post To Be 27-18-22-19-10-7-14-... • 7 weeks

Omarion starts off the top 20, yeah I never expected to see him back as I thought he just disappeared after 2007's 'Ice Box' but this one is even better. Such a tune as to be expected from a DJ Mustard production these days. Another urban song 2 places ahead for Fetty Wap whose 'Trap Queen' has proven to be a real grower in the UK chart and on Thermo's Hot 50 also. Sandwiched between is Blonde who make a far better song than 'I Loved You' with 'All Cried Out'.

Last quarter's #1 'Make Me Feel Better' falls to #17 and 'Firestone' falls from #2 to #14. One place ahead is Avicii 'Waiting For Love', which has the most points possible for a song with only 6 weeks on the chart as all of those weeks were spent at #1. Even by Avicii's usual standards this has spent a very long time at #1 and it could even break the record for total and/or consecutive weeks at #1 (previously set by Mr. Probz 'Waves' which spent 9 weeks at #1 last year).

Last quarter Philip George was #15 with 'Wish You Were Mine'. His new effort 'Afraid To Love' continues the trend of Philip George being #15, and Arty enters a place below with latest effort 'Stronger', which is unrelated to the Clean Bandit song of the same name which is #84 in this countdown.

Felix Jaehn's reworking of 'Ain't Nobody' entered the chart at #1 and has stuck around well, but that's not enough for it to finish in the top 10. It is at #12, and one place ahead is Redondo & Bolier with their deep house smashaa (in my chart only) 'Every Single Piece'.

6 367 Galantis ~ Runaway (U & I) 37-14-7-15-19-25-28-26-27-26-21-20-31-... • 13 weeks

9 331 Pep & Rash ~ Red Roses 8-4-3-3-4-2-2-... • 7 weeks

10 322 Shift K3Y ~ Name & Number 4-3-4-8-9-11-16-31-x • 8 weeks

Shift K3Y managed to get another big Thermo hit even if it nothing officially (well I am less of a chart hoe these days). Really disappointed about that anyway as this is a better version of 'Touch' imo.

At #9 is the first of two Pep & Rash entries, and this is the follow-up to the massive 'Rumors', a hard song to follow-up but I think they did it really well. Also it became the first song to chart before the artist identity was revealed, so they are now firmly in the Thermo's Hot 50 history books *.

Queen of Music Jess Glynne got herself another big UK chart hit with 'Hold My Hand' which predictably also hit it big on Thermo's Hot 50. A place above is Oliver Heldens, whose 'Melody' was #39 last quarter but with the advantage of more charting weeks this time it climbs to #7.

Galantis fall just short of the top 5, although it is the first of five songs to have spent all 13 weeks of the quarter inside the hot 50, having entered on week 1 and being currently #31. It only peaked at #7 on the weekly so it's done well for itself to get as far as #6 here. The top 5 however are made up of only #1 and #2 peaking songs.

5 384 Avicii feat. Joakim Berg ~ On My Own 1-2-3-2-2-3-4-7-... • 8 weeks

Just weeks before 'Waiting For Love' came out we got teased with new Avicii in the form of 'On My Own' which instantly went to #1 before making way for Felix Jaehn and later reclaiming #2 behind WFL.

Major Lazer smash their way to #4, becoming the highest new entry in the countdown with 'Lean On'. 'Cheerleader' climbs from #8 to #3 after the UK release which did finally happen.

'Rumors' is top 5 for a second quarter in a row, climbing from #4 to #2. Its top 10 longevity wasn't enough to beat Alesso however, who climbs from #13 to #1 with 'Cool' which spent a month at #1 earlier this quarter. Definitely one of my faves of the year and a deserved #1.

That was just based on the last quarter though, in the next post we see how things are going based on the first half of the year.
