I'll never get the hate from some towards 'Lose Control' and 'White Lies'. The Saturdays have like... well I don't know, LOTS of songs that are worse than those two! It would be like Girls Aloud fans deciding they hate stuff like Close To Love, Girl Overboard etc (which we don't, generally x).

The selected albumtracks are mostly...surprising, to say the least.

No they don't... Lose Control is beyond terrible and has no redeemable qualities whatsoever. It's not produced well enough to get points for that. The vocals aren't good enough either, except for Vanessa's ad-libs and even then, that might be pushing too much over the edge this time - in a bad way. The lyrics are a lot more cringey than their usual standards when the girls slip through their "kidz bopz" costumes. The only songs worse than that one is the really obvious duds that don't even make sense (shit like 'Golden Rules' and stuff).

 

In fact, I've always felt like 'White Lies' was actually the good version of 'Lose Control'. It manages to recreate a similar "rush" in the chorus without sounding totally awful. But even then, it's nowhere near their best. How is a 7.5, pushing to a 8/10, is one of their best albumtracks?! :drama: They do have far worse than that one, but they also have so much better as well.

 

Poor Sats. 'One Shot' would have been more appropriate.

I edited the whole top 10, it was messy anyway. 'White Lies' was too high and these two Little Mix tracks too low.

 

The problem is, beyond these songs, there really isn't anything else remotely good enough, so I had to settle down for 'Towers' which is not bad at all, but it's just so far far far (keep that going until you die) from being even close to their best. The whole selection for all groups is disappoiting bar a few obvious choices. :cry:

Sad that Last First Kiss and Wildfire didn't make the list :(

In my opinion[/disclaimerthroughoutthefollowingpost] 'Lose Control' is within their Top 20 best songs. So in the top quarter~ of their overall material, for me. I think the real criminal moments in their discography are mainly housed on 'Living For The Weekend', and a few dodgier moments on 'Wordshaker'. Then there's some B Sides that leave a lot to be desired (but hey, they're B Sides).

 

I just hear the complete opposite in 'Lose Control' to what you do. It's so euphoric, production-wise but also it's evident in their vocals. It's catchy throughout, verses/bridge/chorus, it's all memorable. Lyrically... well it's clearly not poetry, but the vast majority of their songs aren't exactly lyrical masterpieces... but thankfully most of their songs sound good despite the odd dodgy lyric. I like the theme of 'LC': confidence, leaving the past behind, letting go. As a whole 'LC' just has many great qualities to it, almost everything required for a pretty fab pop song, in my book. :D I will say that I don't believe it to be a "crying out to be a single" song, by the way, but I do think it's a truly fantastic album track.

 

It's a real stand out on an album that was a mixed bag. Ego, One Shot, Wordshaker, Open Up & Lose Control are all great (with 'LC' being the third best out of these tracks). I wish 'Wordshaker' had kept that standard up throughout.

 

At the end of the day we all interpret music differently. People are allowed to dislike it obviously. I just feel the need to defend the track sometimes. In their section (and you're not the only one responsible by any means), but whenever the track is referenced, we're reminded about how apparently terrible it is, and how could it possibly be liked, etc; that has now spread to this thread. It just gets a bit "ugh" after a while.

Lose Control really is a highlight for me and will be getting high points from me here when I get round to doing this (I've not forgotten x), it baffles me that any Sats stan can hate it :o

White Lies is their best album track tho! ...followed by a close second: Last Call!
