Only a few songs in and this is already INCREDIBLE. I think this might end up being one of my favourite albums ever.
Have to admit it's got quite a nice variety it. Paris, Something Like This are still my favorites but after listening to Break Up Every Night, I think that's just as good as well. Interesting that track was produced/written by Captain Cuts. (People behind Love Like We Used To)

I've only heard three album tracks so far (Break Up Every Night, Bloodstream & Don't Say), and I'll listen to the rest tomorrow morning (legally - now I can stream it I can delete the zip download and wait :P) - I have this to say of them after one listen each:

Break Up Every Night I feel will be a serious grower. After one listen I have the chorus stuck in my head and although it's not what I'm used to from them I really think I'll grow to love it. Initially I was sceptical but there's something about Drew's vocals and the lack of synthy drops that gives it a fun pop feel, like Can't Stop The Feeling or Chained To The Rhythm. Sounds nothing like both of the aforementioned but from what I recall it seems bubbly and exciting, like the tracks I said.

Bloodstream isn't exactly great on first listen, I feel as though it could go two ways - I could get an instant connection to it on first CDQ listen tomorrow or it could end up being just album filler for me, like I felt with Inside Out until recently on the Bouquet EP. I can't see myself loving it but it's still a pleasant track nonetheless and something I'll go back to.

Don't Say sounds absolutely superb. There's a real anthemic, synthy feel to it which makes me relate it to the likes of Let You Go and Roses. Obviously it has its own personal traits but the chorus is quite infectious and as far as I remember the drop goes pretty hard. It's a kind of track I reckon I'll listen to for a long time regularly, but from what I've heard from the album so far I feel as though this is the most likely to be a proper official hit.

SO excited to hear the rest of this - and I'll be listening in high quality then so my opinions on the songs will probably differ a lot.

Don't Say seems to follow the same template of Closer a bit. The drop is amazing though, I think the perfect single run would be this:

1. Paris

2. Something Just Like This

3. Don't Say

4. Break Up Every Night

I love Break Up Every Night after a second listen. I think it would be a great song for a divorce party and really gives me that pop-rock feeling!

I'm in love with this abum, Break Up Every Night, Don't Say, My Type, It Won't Kill Ya and Young are all amazing!

Wake up Alone might be my favourite though, it reminds me a lot of Don't Let Me Down.

I thought the Louane track would be good but f*** me  Same goes for Wake Up Alone, it's like an iTunes fake karaoke version of Don't Let Me Down... Don't Say is the only good one out of the ones with good names attached, I don't care to listen to the rest.]

I say that but out of morbid curiosity I listened to Last Day Alive out of morbid curiosity at how much of a monstrosity we could be given from two of the worst acts of recent times teaming up and it's horrific. No worse than The One though, I still can't get over how terminal that song is....

In short, WHY DO THEY EXIST?

This is possibly one of the best albums I've ever heard in my life. Absolutely INCREDIBLE. It's everything I wanted from them and more, just so so bloody flawless.

10.0 | The One

09.5 | Break Up Every Night

10.0 | Bloodstream

11.0 | Don't Say

10.0 | Something Just Like This

10.0 | My Type

10.0 | It Won't Kill Ya

09.5 | Paris

09.5 | Honest

09.5 | Wake Up Alone

10.0 | Young

10.0 | Last Day Alive

...that's if I was just allowed to give one 11. Like there's no weak point of the whole album and I love how they've strayed away from the future bass in some tracks to experiment with different sounds. Drew's vocals are perfect on all the songs he does. I don't have anything bad to say about this. Thank god that The Chainsmokers exist - without a shadow of a doubt my favourite producers ever.

Is 'The One' the next single? I mean, the production is alright but Drew's vocals...the very definition of nails on a chalkboard. ABHORRENT.

jesus wept :drama:

:P I thought some people would be a bit ??? at my opinions on this
They seem to be so hated online but I think it's quite a good album - I love 'My Type' and 'Young' most.
I really don't understand the extreme hate for them, especially this album, I think it's great, one of my favourite albums for a while. I understand that some people are annoyed about them straying away from their original sounds, but every artist changes. I just really do not get how some people find them as unbearably horrible as they do. I think they're great and their success is well deserved!

This!

Those were the exact 2 tracks I checked out as well due to the featured artists the other day but they were horrendous. And I heard The One as well before which is the definition of audio torture.

Shame as Roses was really good & Don't Let Me Down is INCREDIBLE and now they've just been awful ever since then.

This! I just can't see what there is to hate about them, I mean the music isn't everyones type but it's confusing how people genuinely hate them. Actually 'people' = about 4 Buzzjack users so I doubt they'll lose sleep over it. They really deserve to be as big as they are.

Conversely I just cannot see how people DO like them  For me, there is nothing to them this era. No talent, no good vocals, no good lyrics, no good production. They're all the things I look for in music. I am aware that music is subjective and each to their own, but I think this is one of the only times I don't see any appeal in a musical act as a whole (I do like Roses and Don't Let Me Down, Selfie is a good "if I'm drunk" song and Something Just Like is ok, so I don't just blindly hate everything they do).

A review I saw put it best "from sexist, cliched lyrics to flat singing" "Taggart, without question, has the flattest voice in recent pop music history, totally void of personality and barely in key". If they had interesting production to make up for it, fine, and they could have featured vocalists to combat the fact he can't sing, but the songs are just so boring. The definition of "spotify fodder" - putting in as little effort as possible to make a lazy hit with all the right features. It's just baffling that of all acts, this is the one the public eats up, when there are amazing new artists going under the radar and even big popstars relatively flopping compared to other eras. I just don't get why such an average, non-descript song like Closer suddenly sent them stratospheric, I really will never understand.

I do agree that Drew's vocals aren't the best and I kinda wish he wouldn't utilise them as much in their music, and in my opinion, their production is interesting, they may have a similar production style throughout their music, but that is just their style, like most other EDM artists (whether Chainsmokers are still EDM or not is a different question) have similar sounds throughout their music, EDX is a good example. This doesn't really make their music "bad" though, but it can't make it quite subjective or divisive. I definitely would not call 'Closer' a non-descript song, it's stupidly catchy and annoying to an extent, even my Dad, who has basically zero interest in music, knows most of the words. I think it's all a matter of opinion, but saying they have 'No Talent' or 'No Good Vocals' is pushing it slightly.
