BRITAIN has turned into the campest nation on the planet after buying a colossal amount of SCISSOR SISTERS albums.

The New York disco divas’ latest CD Ta-Dah, which was released on Monday, is already on course to become one of the biggest sellers of the year.

JAKE SHEARS, ANA MATRONIC and Co sold an astonishing 83,000 copies on its first day.

That is the highest number shifted since ARCTIC MONKEYS put out their album back in January.

I would estimate Ta-Day will sell more than 300,000 by the end of the week — which would put it in a very exclusive club.

The Monkeys had sold 363,735 by the end of their first week — and 113,000 on their first day. So the camp American party animals are not far behind.

But the Scissors have an album which will continue to sell over the forthcoming months.

By the end of the year I would expect the Monkeys and Scissors to be battling for biggest-selling album of the year.

The only other contender so far is KEANE.

Their album Under The Iron Sea sold 222,000 in one week in June.

This week the Sisters are slaughtering everyone else in sight. They are outselling the next 11 albums in the chart combined.

And, oh the irony, poor ELTON JOHN (who they take their sound from) has only shifted 7,000 copies of his new release, The Captain And The Kid.

So they are thrashing their mentor by an incredible 12 to one. To put it all in perspective JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE’s album got to No1 last week with just 90,000 sales.

So the Sisters have nearly sold as many as him in just 24 hours.

And they will also do the chart double on Sunday — because their single I Don’t Feel Like Dancing is on course to stay at No1 for the third week running.

The only question is — who’s buying the album?

I suspect there’s a lot of closet male fans out there. There might even be one in your family.

How mature  I just bought it myself anyway ^_^

In my experience, women and gay men in their 30s and 40s. They probably listened to this sort of music the first time it was around. But I suppose considering the huge sales then there will be lots who don't fit into those demographics that have bought it.

While their music isn't really my cup of tea, the Scissor Sisters are alright in my book.

Plus, regardless of what the album is like, strong sales are good news for the music industry.

Ah, the Sun, that explains a lot, typical.

From the sound of that prediction I guess that Victoria NEWTon wrote it -_-

I don't like this pointing at this or that sex. It's music ! I don't think only gays buy Scissor Sisters. I don't think a man can feel camp only cos he buys Ta Dah or the other way round !

She's a t***

It's not just women or gay people or drag queens who buy their music like that dumass seems to think

Well I'm not camp or gay and I bought it, it's MUSIC and if I like it then I'll buy it. I hate the way that the media like to stereotype people oh "all gays will buy that" etc. it's just music and it has no links to sexuality or anything like that. Infact I'm suprised they were allowed to print that.

How sickening? what is it that u dont particuly like about it?

Personally I find this type of music sickening.

I think you seriously need to elaborate on this statement... sickening? Please explain.....

The album is f*cking AMAZING.

Here's hoping it beats the AWFUL Arctic Monkeys, to get #01 Fastest Selling Album of The Year

I don't think their music is camp or sickening. I think they are very talented and unique! The fact is they have allot of appeal, there sales show this. They are probs the best musical group to come out of the 00's.

I'd add the article is from The Sun

I'd know Vicky Newton's work anywhere.

They are very camp but that does'nt mean straight people can't like them. Honestly Vicky just should give up now

Well, it's not very pleasant. Lyrically it's about as creative as a Britney Spears song, and the entire style is beyond flamboyant and nauseating. And it's certainly not original at all, with the only reason it doing well being that it's the only song of its kind out. I'm sure if I released a bushman tribal anthem that would also be a hit, doesn't mean it's good.

It's music for middle aged women, who think it's both "hip" and "cool" to boogie to retro-styled beats, and for all those GAP-wearing college preps who find it majestic (you know, the type that wear scarfs around their necks 24/7). The band look like something out of Cirque du Soleil (more like Cirque de la Merde) and the lead singer looks possessed with sinful thoughts.

And before you jump the "homophobic" bandwagon, that's not the case at all, and I actually imagine many gays and lesbians find the Scissor Sisters are unrepresentative of their kind.

I'll end my rant by thanking God that they're not British, so that the Brits 2007 don't get royally f**ked up the arse.
