It's a question hanging around music circles this week - is Delta Goodrem the hapless victim of tall poppy syndrome, forced to endure the pitfalls of fame in Australia?

Some music commentators, no doubt inspired by Goodrem's powerful Commonwealth Games performance (which was indeed impressive), have come out fighting on the singer's behalf, saying she has suffered an unfair amount of negativity and deserves better.

The truth is quite different to that. Goodrem has long had the overwhelming support of the Australian public and media.

People adored her first album, felt incredibly upset and sympathetic when she was diagnosed with cancer and have been inspired by the singer's courage in the face of genuine adversity. There's no denying her extraordinary talent and lovely, down-to-earth nature.

But there was one major hiccup in Goodrem's music career: her second album, Mistaken Identity, did not strike the same emotional chord with audiences as her first, Innocent Eyes. Sales didn't go close to the first album. That had nothing to do with a public backlash, but more to do with bad judgement inside the recording studio.

Hopefully, judging by the response to Goodrem's Commonwealth Games performance and the genuine pandemonium at her underwear launch in Sydney last week, the singer is headed back in the right direction when it comes to keeping fans interested.

I don't think that that's at all fair, just very poor single choices from Sony :(

What a load of poo!! <_< Mi is great!!! In some ways tons better than Ie!! All there basing their opinions on is sales, if Sony BMG would get off their backsides once in a while and put more effort in then maybe sales would have been/would be better!! They can never seem to be bothered - the situation in the UK - perfect example and then its Delta that gets slated - she can't exactly go against Sony BMG's wishes can she?!! Awww grrrr!! Sony BMG pee me off - if you hadn't guessed already <_<

Love,

Kirsty xx

Sony just made a total balls of the single releases IMO. It's so ironic when they got it 100% right with IE!

I have to admit, although MI isnt as good as IE imo, she didn't recieve a public backlash did she?!? I don't think that people have ever blame really against her.

I blame Brian Mcfadden! ^_^
