August 18, 20159 yr Author The thing with Madonna is that a lot of her most known hits were released at times when the singles market was low - late 80s/early 90s and middle 00s for instance. 'Like a Prayer', 'Vogue' and 'Hung Up' could have outsold 'Into the Groove', I'm sure.

I thought 'Umbrella' was ahead of 'What's My Name?' for some reason, but it's still a bit behind according to the latest figures. Although the last known figure for 'Umbrella' was 830k, so it's very close in sales.

'Like a Prayer', 'Vogue' and 'Hung Up' could have outsold 'Into the Groove', I'm sure. I don't think Like a Prayer or Vogue would have sold a million even if they were released in say 1996 to 1999. Prob might have reached 800,000 tops.
