also like Ryan said u don't even listen to all the songs so how does this work ? do you veto some samples and then let others thru that randomly fly under the radar and say oops we'll catch it next time ? I don't rly think that's fair

As I said earlier, the 31 points were irrelevant as it went through the voting process rather than the auto-veto process - it's just I wanted to cover all possible bases with that breakdown (the fact their album was #1 is probably irrelevant to this particular case but I included it just to be consistent with the other points The Prodigy would get). But the wording on the framework is "Buzzjack following" not BJSC following, and the fact there was a recent Prodigy rate that had a solid amount of participants leads me to believe they do have a significant following on Buzzjack.

 

In the past songs haven't been listened to as far as I'm aware but as I believe Iz said somewhere, he has started to give tracks a quick listen to check for any hidden samples and it'll be ideal to make this an official check in future, but it did happen this month. Swole wasn't the only track spotted to have samples in - and I did first hear about Swole via a Bre and Lew conversation about your potentials but it would've been picked up as soon as it was researched as the first article when google searching mentions samples - so please don't think it was only picked up on via a tip off as it would've been noticed when researching anyway.

 

Don't get me wrong, in the past I'd have been the first one screaming inconsistency - everyone knows I liked a good BJSC moan and to pick up on any little thing I could! :heehee: But one thing I have learnt over the last couple of months, is that the veto process evolves every single contest at a much more frequent rate than I ever imagined. The sheer amount of work that goes into research is absolutely insane especially with such a high volume of tracks. New things are noticed every single contest and so many small changes are made in order to ensure consistency for the future. It's completely understandable that comparisons are made to Sigala and Sam Feldt, and I'd have made the exact same comparison in your shoes. But I've learnt that we do have to take contests in isolation and only look forward as the veto process does constantly evolve and new ideas and thoughts are incorporated month on month. If 'Show Me Love' was entered now (ignoring its chart success and assuming it was in the same position now as it was then), it would be likely that it would've been vetoed as I believe we have become more aware of samples and that some samples do give songs an unfair advantage due to the familiarity they have over other tracks and is part of the natural evolution of the process. Not a sample but would I have got away with sending Demi Lovato's 'Unbroken' nowadays even if her popularity was the same now as it was then? Most probably not which shows the evolution, its just this is in a shorter time frame.

 

I know I've rambled on but I do hope that goes some way to explain the decision! Yes it is arguably inconsistent with some past non-vetoes, but we've learnt from them and improved the veto process which looking forward will mean more consistency.

i’m struggling to see any breadth to your quest for ‘fairness’, for example the aussie chart has proved, time and time again, to be something of a tastemaker - is taking their #1, going top 5 in bjsc, and then watching it go to #1 here a ‘fair’ entry?! i don’t see any complaints, or clamour to heap veto points onto the aria chart in the wake of a pop success like rachel pLatten?! I’m not calling for that btw, just for consistency~

to be clear i think the bjsc mods + helpers do a terrific job researching 100’s of songs entered each month, and are too often the unsung heroes of the competition ^_^, with the sheer volume of songs to review it’s understandable that occasionally mistakes can happen. on this 1 occasion out of 100s it’s regrettable that once the mistaken assumption that faik sampled the prodigy came to light, instead of trying to save face/getting overly defensive, the veto wasn’t withdrawn out of consideration for the entrant (152chris)~ :angel:
