September 22, 20159 yr Jan Smit denied it and he also did a similar thing with Anouk. I think he's low-key hating. It's interesting, never even heard of Douwe. At least he's not the joke The Netherlands dared to enter a few years back, a couple of jokes actually. Jan sat next to Douwe at DWDD though and they got on pretty well. The song has already been chosen, title will be announced in November and a performance of the song at DWDD will be in February.
March 3, 20169 yr For some reason The Netherlands has shot up the betting to around 11/1 in some places. Do any of the Dutchies here know something that we don't?
March 3, 20169 yr Author For some reason The Netherlands has shot up the betting to around 11/1 in some places. Do any of the Dutchies here know something that we don't? I have no clue, we don't even know what the song should sound like. No genre, style or anything. Probs just our great reputation
March 3, 20169 yr This seems to have happened to a couple of countries recently, Armenia rose up the odds fairly dramatically (although not as dramatically as The Netherlands) a few days ago and the dropped against once the song was released and people realised it wasn't a winner. So I guess people realise The Netherlands are the next reveal that could possibly bring a contender so are hyping them a bit now!
March 3, 20169 yr I'm very excited for this reveal by the way, I love Douwe's genre of music and I think I'm going to love this!
March 4, 20169 yr It's called Slow Down and has his first play now. It sounds like a typical Douwe Bob song.
March 4, 20169 yr I'm a country fan and I'm really liking this, I was singing the chorus by the end of the first listen and that's got to be a good sign. I was expecting something maybe a little more uptempo like Sweet Sunshine, but that's not a problem. This should be a safe qualifier even in the high quality first semi, will stand out very nicely!
March 4, 20169 yr Every year without fail the Dutch entry always ends up in my bottom five. This year will be no exception. Dreadful in every sense.
March 6, 20169 yr I've really fell in love with this, it's so charming! He has such a classic sound to his voice, love his tone. The whole package just works wonderfully and for some reason it reminds be of a country version of britpop, there's something very British about it and I'm not sure what - maybe it's the music video. I'm not ruling this out of a top 10 finish in the final! I know it doesn't mean too much but great to see this #1 in The Netherlands on iTunes!
March 22, 20169 yr I think the song will do alright for us. He has a cute face and a nice, distinctive voice to make up for the quite faceless song. The song itself reminds me a lot (too much) of Whiskeytowns 'Excuse Me While I Break My Own Heart Tonight'.
March 22, 20169 yr There's still a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that it is in that first semi-final where almost anything can happen, but I still believe this is distinctive enough to qualify anyway - even if it is just sneaking through the semi, assuming it doesn't get a horror draw of #2 in the semi or something like that - and then challenge for top 10! Despite all the very strong songs coming in recent days this is still in my top 10, I think if Douwe does qualify then The Netherlands should sent strictly country/folky songs every year from now on! :heehee: They've tapped into a niche so well!
May 21, 20169 yr I'm rather loving the Dutch Eurovision renaissance and sad Slow Down couldn't quite make the top ten (bloody early running order though that didn't stop Belgium I guess). Douwe's album is rather nice and there's a stunning song on it called Jacob's Song, which sounds like an instant classic ballad. It's five and a half minutes long so would have been far too long for Eurovision without a brutal edit but it'd have been another great choice. Edited May 21, 20169 yr by gooddelta
