is that roxy music on the m&s advert with all the models/actresses? the one that goes "and a glass of champagne" (it sounds like "and a glass of chanpaiiiiineygne")

i think it's bryan ferry singing as he has a funny voice, and it sounds something from the time of abba.

what is the song and the year?

I love this song  , I must see if I can get it on CD somewhere ! It was held from no.1 by Queen's Bohiemian Rhapsody, I soppose if theres any song you woouldn't mind keepin you from the top of the charts, that'd be it!

it was a rare event, a decent track from the mid 70's ! lol good song.

note twiggy looking at a billboard pic of herself as she was... she was the best bint on the ad!

but it M&S now, before it might have been primark

nah - Ferry was always a repulsive champagne Charlie... son of a penniless docker who went on to have a yah-son making a prick of himself defending foxhunting in the Commons.

The man's a joke.

I loved Roxy Music, though... just despise that greasy slimeball Ferry.

A lot of people seem to think this is by Roxy Music for some reason, but as already revealed it is by Sailor - Glass of Champagne from 1976. There only other hit was Girls Girls Girls.

poor Bryan. He used to go to the school which is barely 100 yards from my front door. He's the "local boy done good".Some of his relations still live here though I doubt he has been back here for several years.

good guess about it being from the time of Abba - the song was at #2 (behind Bohemian Rahpsody, as said above) for 2 weeks and both of those weeks it was just ahead of Mamma Mia by Abba.

I found it a bit annoying, mainly because of the way the guy pronounces "champagne"! Plus it was severely overplayed on radio. Though the song wasn't as annoying as "Girls, Girls, Girls" That too was used in an advert, a few years ago.

To me the song sounds like Andy Partridge (of XTC) or Ricky Wilson (Kaiser Chiefs) doing a Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music) impersonation over a Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel backing track.
