Donovan who is entrusted with negotiating the release of Francis Gary Powers—a pilot whose U-2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union—in exchange for Rudolf Abel, a captive Soviet KGB spy held under the custody of the United States. OSCAR CATEGORIES CHANCES: Best Picture, Best Director (Steven Spielberg), Best Actor (Tom Hanks), Best Supporting Actor (Mark Rylance), Best Original Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Costumes, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Score Distributor: Disney (USA), 20th Century Fox (UK, INTERNATIONAL) Rotten Tomatoes Score And Critic Consensus: 91% (214, 21). Top Critics: 95% (36, 2) Critics Consensus: Bridge of Spies finds new life in Hollywood's classic Cold War espionage thriller formula, thanks to reliably outstanding work from Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. BOX OFFICE: UK- Very good, really good opening and fantastic 2nd/3rd week hold! US- Solid but nothing amazing. Had fantastic legs from a quite small opening but is fading fast now. At 70M total for the moment! International- Solid, Australia is it's highest territory Why It Might Succeed: Great reviews and has a massive director + actor. Why It Might Not Succeed: Buzz already fading and didn't do too well at Golden Globes. Current Predictions: TBA. Will post later when I do predictions (Mark Rylance and maybe one or two more!) Buzzjack's Reviews : Josh: Very slow starting but the second half definitely picked up and I ended up coming out quite happy. Two very good performances from Hanks and Rylance, especially the former, from what I've seen I'd like to see him sneak in another Oscar nomination. The film was very dialogue driven but the second half still felt exciting, loved all the negotiation parts trying to get a 2 for 1 deal. Good movie but you have to be in the right frame of mind to sit all the way through it really. Jahq: An excellent movie. Best picture, best actor and supporting actor nods please. I love a bit of legal drama so it kept me interested pretty much throughout and it was kind of a tale of two halves, the US set beginning with the courtroom and the German set negotiation half so despite the running time (which was a bit off-putting beforehand, my expectations weren't overly high and I thought I might personally find it dull!) neither part went on for too long. It surprised me with the amount of humour and I felt there was a lot of heart to it too, absolutely loved the ending with the family and seeing how the reactions of the people on the train had changed. Will post my review at later date, seeing it on Sunday hopefully :) Hope you like this. Also remember to contribute any reviews, information or predictions (box office or Oscar) if you want to?!

December 18, 20159 yr How The Martian got nominated as a comedy is beyond me. Sure, there are a few giggles in the film, but you have got to be kidding me!
December 18, 20159 yr Bridge of Spies was really well directed to make it so suspenseful and engaging despite not the most interesting storyline ever and no action. Bit worried about Tom Hanks' chances in the Best Actor category now even though I do think he deserves it :( Edited December 18, 20159 yr by Josh Josh Binks
