November 26, 20159 yr Saviour's Day is wonderfully charming  Heal The World - one of Jacko's worst of his biggest hits really. Uptown Girl is the bomb
November 26, 20159 yr Author 85. TO YOU I BELONG- B*Witched (1998) 258,000 http://i68.tinypic.com/oa67t5.jpg Becoming the first act to debut at No 1 with their first three releases b*Witched probably knew the knew the Christmas chart topper was slightly beyond them in the age of the Spice Girls so cleverly went a week earlier ensuring they at least made it though they fell to No 5 the following week. WHY DO FOOLS FALL IN LOVE- Diana Ross (1981) 258,000 http://i64.tinypic.com/bed8ig.jpg Originally a No 1 single in 1956 for Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers, this version was released by Ross as her first move after leaving Motown and ended up being a top 5 single, not surer if the dancing around in Las Vegas helped in the video but everyone likes a spot of disco at Christmas. ul7-BXR3T_s
November 26, 20159 yr <3 To You I Belong is one of my favourite ever ballads, such a gorgeous song. I could listen to the charts of late 1998 day in/day out without getting bored, so much fantastic pop. Edited November 26, 20159 yr by gooddelta
November 26, 20159 yr Author 83. MIAMI- Will Smith (1998) 259,000 http://i66.tinypic.com/148ap3.jpg Speaking of Disco, here’s Will Smith sampling an old 1980 track The Whispers “And The Beat Goes On” to great effect, OK it had 1998 sales to help it as it whipped into the No 3 spot but it has a kind of charm, IwBS6QGsH_4

WIND BENEATH MY WINGS- Steven Houghton (1997) 259,000 http://i64.tinypic.com/2gwx1jo.jpg For some reason I thought this song dated back further than the 80s but it was written in 1982 and recorded by quite a fair amount of artists before it finally made the top 40 here in a version by Bette Midler in 1989. It was back in the top 10 thanks to this cover by Steven Houghton who was, at the time, an actor in “London’s Burning” and a hit with the ladies. eMH689SxNoY

BACK IN MY LIFE- Alice Deejay (1999) 260,000 http://i64.tinypic.com/f2skrl.jpg With essentially the same back beat Alice Deejay recreated a bit of the magic of “Better Off Alone” with this follow up. Reached No 1 in Norway apparently though it failed to dent the top 3 here. CZLNp_IeIWA
November 27, 20159 yr 82. WIND BENEATH MY WINGS- Steven Houghton (1997) 259,000 I think there will be 8 or 9 songs from Dec 1997 in this chart if this has appeared.
November 27, 20159 yr Author 80. DON’T LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME- George Michael & Elton John (1991) 260,000 http://i68.tinypic.com/1zwnlhh.jpg The pair first sung this song together at Live Aid in 1985 and some 6 years later recorded it again for charity (the only thing Michael did between 1991 and 1995 was for charity thanks to being in a huff with Sony) and huzzah- straight into No 1 RsKqMNDoR4o
November 27, 20159 yr Back In My Life  One of my top ten favourite songs ever! Interesting to see it sell more than quarter of a million copies during December 1999, it never felt THAT huge, but I guess it was a very high selling chart period, and had quite a good top ten run in the end. The stan that I am, I remember it went 5-4-5-11-10-6-6-6 in its first eight weeks - and that's without consulting Polyhex to double check! I was elated at that top ten return.
November 28, 20159 yr Elton and George - epic - I feel Michael will be back in this rundown again....
November 28, 20159 yr Author 79. EVERYDAY I LOVE YOU- Boyzone (1999) 264,000 http://i65.tinypic.com/349f2c8.jpg Rather depressingly no act appears on this list more than this lot. At least this wasn’t a cover, it was penned by country royalty Baker & Myers (who also wrote All-4-one’s “I Swear”) and gave them their final hit single before an extended hiatus for 9 years. November 28, 20159 yr Author 78. FREE AS A BIRD- The Beatles (1994) 265,000 http://i65.tinypic.com/122c3sx.jpg Touted very much as the 18th Beatles No 1 when it was issued it lost out to Michael Jackson’s “Earthsong” despite leading midweek. It’s a 1977 Lennon original that was dusted down and added to by the other former Beatles and sold over 120,000 in its first week. yUW6nJQuDqM
November 28, 20159 yr I wonder if Janet Jackson's 'Together Again' will make it on here. It sold 800k in the UK but I'm unsure how much it sold in that December month.
November 28, 20159 yr Back In My Life is a stunner! Although still not a patch on Better Off Alone which is in my top 10 songs of all time  Not all that keen on any of the others posted, Don't Let The Sun Go Down is alright but a bit overly dramatic. Free As A Bird doesn't rank among my Beatles faves.
