Why

: The Southend band's debut self titled new album excited me a lot espically when I first heard 'Graveyard Whistling'. Then they brought out the AMAZING 'Ban All The Music'. Since then they have gone from strength to strength. With 'Itch' and 'Tripswitch' being released. The whole album is diverse. You have slow moments for example 'Graveyard Whistling' and Upbeat rock moments like 'Ban All The music' Really happy with this album. I urge everyone to check it out.

Why

: James Bay won the Brits Critic Choice award so he had a lot of hype. His album was flawless loved every song. Just there is so many emotions. For example 'Let It Go' is a downtempo ballad that is about letting go of someone and learning to be you. 'If You Ever Want To Be In Love' is about wanting to try and make it with someone and taking that leap of love. It is also upbeat.

Kodaline - Coming Up For Air

Why

: As a massive fan of Kodaline's debut album 'In A Perfect World'. I was looking foward to new stuff from them. There sent their new song Honst out to the word the end of the last year. It was gorgeous. The One Followed and it blew my socks off. So pretty and just I want it to be my wedding song. I love that much. The album as a whole is strong I would have liked if they got more support after The One :( but nonetheless I am Happy.

Ellie Goudling - Delirium

Why

: I consider myself to be a Ellie Goudling stan. So when Love Me Like You Do came out I played it to death (still love it though :lol:). I also heard her album would be out this year so was excitedly awaiting it. She brought out On My Mind in September I was concerned because this wasn't the Ellie I stanned for and therefore my least favourite single of hers :(. However I was still none the less excited for her album. It did not disappointed when it finally released. Pop album of the year for me. I urge you to stan for Codes to be a single.

Glad to see NBT up so high here, definitely agree with the word 'exciting' in there, that's exactly what it is all the way through, I do admit that I prefer their high-energy tracks more though. They sound great on slower songs like Graveyard Whistling as well though.

 

Fantastic to see Ellie get some more appreciation, everyone seems to have just turned on her all of a sudden but it's the best album she's made imo. Doesn't drag for me it all despite it's length because all the tracks are so high quality with all the right hooks. Not sure about Codes for next single though, I'd pick SITWYM and then Aftertaste and then Don't Panic to round it off with Around U!

Yeah I prefer the high energry tracks to the slow ones tbh. They are an exciting band :heart:

 

Elle deserves so much appreciation imo. I dont understand people calling it awful just because she changed a bit. Taylor swift changed much more than she did and she gets praise...

 

Hmm I think Codes should be a single but I think that shows how strong the album is when everyone has their own singles in mind.

Florence + The Machine - How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful

Why

: I always wonder when Florence would come back to us.Then at the begining of the year she released 'What Kind of Man' which was different in a good kind of away. The guitar at the beginning is amazing and iconic. Love it. Then 'Ship To Wreck' come around and it was amazing, love the theme of the song and its lyrics. The whole album is really strong even if like many albums its not her best. She chose the best single for number 4 'Delliah' which is so full of energy, love the hook and the lyrics. When she writes her songs I love how she creates mystery within her lyrics as to what it is about.

Top 5 Breakouts of the year

5. Slaves


Ever since I heard 'Where's Your Car Debbie?' last year I knew there was something special and unique about these two mischievous men. Laurie and Issac were destined to have some sort of success. Their first album 'Are You Satisfied' went top 10 in the UK, nominated for the Mercury Prize and they played a sold out tour in the UK. There album also had a lot of Critical acclaim. These two in my eyes have broke out.


4. Wolf Alice


This is a band I didn't think would break through and get success and acclaim but they have. Their début album 'My Love Is Cool' reached Top Two in the UK album charts. Nominated for Mercury Prize and also a Grammy for Best Rock Performance for 'Moaning Lisa Smile'. Toured UK and North America. They also received high amount of critical acclaim.

3. Hozier


Some may consider that he broke out last year however I think this was the year he did. Take Me To Chruch peaked at #22 last year. This year it managed to get to #2 in the UK Charts. The follow up went to 19 in the UK Chart. His album went back in the album and went back into the top 10. He won BBC Music Award for British Single and he played the main stage at Glastonbury.

2. Years and Years


After winning the BBC Sound of poll you usually get hype and eventually you usually get success (unless you are Micheal Kiwanuka who didn't the success part). Years and Years claimed a Two top 10 singles, with one reaching the top 10.They got a Number one album. Recieved critical Accailm and played some of the UK and US's Popular venues and festivals. This all happened within a year.

1. James Bay


Like Years and Years, James Bay recieved a lot of hype after successfully winning the Brits Critic Award at the end of the last year. Meaning this year he had to do well. He did. Two top 10 singles, A number one album, Toured the world, Nominated in the Grammy awards and received a lot of acclaim for his album.

Delirium is really disappointing :( Just about scraped my top 40 albums, obv like it or it wouldn't be there at all but it has nothing on her others.

Not heard anything from NU Florence but Ellie's single is ear rape, so I imagine the album is too </3
