121 JTR - Centre of Everywhere - 5-11-27-30-X (4 weeks)

122 5 Seconds of Summer - Jet Black Heart - 30-X-39-X (2 non-consecutive weeks)

123 Hilary Duff - Sparks - 6-12-15-16-24-36-X (6 weeks)

124 Astrid S - 2AM - 9-14-11-17-29-40-X (6 weeks)

125 Cody Simpson - Happy Lil' Hippie - 15-18-26-39-X (4 weeks)

126 Meghan Trainor - Title - 34-16-21-23-35-X (5 weeks)

127 Tinashe - All Hands on Deck (feat. Iggy Azalea) - 6-8-14-18-20-24-33-X (7 weeks)

128 Felix Jaehn - Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) [feat. Jasmine Thompson] - 28-9-12-19-29-X-23-33-X (7 non-consecutive weeks)

129 Saint Raymond - Come Back to You - 6-11-17-25-25-29-23-31-X (8 weeks)

130 Eaves - Alone in My Mind - 20-9-12-24-38-… (5+ weeks)

My second BJSC entry to appear in this countdown, Eaves' Alone in My Mind was my final entry of the year. The folky song was very different for one of my entries, but despite what Bray thinks, it's not something I like on the basis of the artist's hair length :') the song is really relaxing and soothing, and took me by surprise which is always something I like in music. Also in this section is a song that Jáhq sent to the contest, by Astrid S (formerly just Astrid). 2AM is a sultry song with a delicate voice, and one I really enjoyed when I first heard it and kinda wanted to steal from him :kink:

Elsewhere, Felix Jaehn appears at #128, 9 places above his Cheerleader remix. Whilst Ain't Nobody is very overdone when it comes to covers, this has a charm to it and I think it helps that it has the vocal talent of Jasmine Thompson, offering a more refined vocal compared to the original. Just below it is Saint Raymond, who I wouldn't have discovered without Bray actually. Come Back To You's UK release was actually seemingly cancelled due to a lack of support :drama: Didn't stop him claiming a top 10 album in the 5-day week though *.* He's also a really lovely guy, although sadly he didn't play this in his four-song set at Banquet Records in Kingston when I went to see him.

Tinashe is mostly overrated I find, despite having a pretty damn great voice. All Hands On Deck is one song I most definitely DO get the hype for however, becoming her first (and only) top 10 hit in my chart. Iggy's rap doesn't add much to the song but it doesn't detract from it either so I tend to listen to that version over the album version. Just above it are two album tracks, from Meghan Trainor and Cody Simpson. Meghan's song is the kinda track she does best, quirky lyrics over an uptempo doo-wop instrumental. Cody's is one of the best songs in his new genre, taking an acoustic storytelling view with this song. It pays off and whilst it's worlds away from the likes of Wish U Were Here (his best song), I do rather love it.

At the top end of this section, we have Hilary Duff's first appearance. She's outdone by two of her album tracks but Sparks is lots of fun regardless and should've been a hit :( We round out the section with two boyband hits. Current 5SOS single Jet Black Heart has since peaked at #9 in my chart with its single push but I liked it enough from the album alone and I'm delighted it's gone on to be a single. JTR close out the section with their last appearance. Centre of Everywhere is a great anthemic pop song and it's exactly the kind of style I want from them so I hope they continue bringing these pop jams for their next album!

PICK OF THE SECTION

131 Meghan Trainor - Lips Are Movin - don't like this :P cheap part 2 of AATB which was much better.

137 Omi - Cheerleader - 17-12-7-10-16-30-34-X (7 weeks) remix or original?

139 Years & Years - Desire - 9-11-25-34-X (4 weeks)

140 Demi Lovato - Confident - 8-13-20-22-27-39-X (6 weeks)

127 Tinashe - All Hands on Deck (feat. Iggy Azalea) - 6-8-14-18-20-24-33-X (7 weeks) pretty catchy but 2 On

128 Felix Jaehn - Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) [feat. Jasmine Thompson] - 28-9-12-19-29-X-23-33-X (7 non-consecutive weeks) :music: two great artists here, look forward to seeing (ahem hearing :kink:) more of them tomorrowyear :funky:

7 S Club 7

The first artist I ever liked as a kid. S Club 7 were with me as I grew up, and are pretty much the foundations of my taste today, setting me up as a huge lover of pop music. Don't Stop Movin' is my favourite song of all-time and it just fails to get old for me, and most of their songs can put me in a happy mood even when I'm really sad. So naturally, when they were announced to be reuniting and performing at Children In Need 2014, I was beyond excited. The performance, despite some ropey vocals from Queen Jo O'Meara, was fantastic and is something I've rewatched numerous times since.

The next step? A reunion tour, of course! Earlier this year, I got to live out a childhood dream of mine as I saw S Club 7 live in concert for the first time. I can quite safely say it was the best concert I've been to. Each performance was fantastic and vocals were on point from everyone, especially Jo. Paul's solo acoustic version of Reach was a particular highlight, as he reminisced about days gone by when S Club were together full-time. I have so many memories with this group and their songs and to see them live, it was incredible for me, and it's made me realise how much love I have for all of their songs. Despite only one "new" song this year, S Club are incredibly deserving of their position here in my artists countdown.

Thanks UV and Spadam :D It's the Cheerleader remix, Spadam! I don't tend to specify remixes in my chart, bar particular cases :heehee:

111 BØRNS - Electric Love - 5-8-12-20-28-X (5 weeks)

112 The Vamps - Volcano (feat. Silentó) - 12-… (1+ weeks)

113 Ellie Goulding - On My Mind - 15-8-9-13-21-29-37-40-X (8 weeks)

114 Elina Born - Kilimanjaro - 5-13-29-X (3 weeks)

115 Jess Glynne - Take Me Home - 29-22-4-11-… (4+ weeks)

116 LunchMoney Lewis - Bills - 19-16-17-12-17-13-7-14-22-31-X (10 weeks)

117 Calvin Harris & Disciples - How Deep Is Your Love - 7-6-14-18-27-39-X (6 weeks)

118 Saint Raymond - Fall At Your Feet - 6-10-18-31-X-10-20-34-X (7 non-consecutive weeks)

119 Charlie Puth - Marvin Gaye (feat. Meghan Trainor) - 40-33-35-30-37-26-21-15-21-28-35-30-40-X (13 weeks)

120 The Vamps - Rest Your Love - 17-… (1+ weeks)

Double Vamps appearance here, firstly with their current single Rest Your Love at #120. This only had one week of eligibility for the EOY chart so that's a pretty remarkable position, and it hit #1 in my weekly chart the week after the cut-off point so expect to see it higher up next year's countdown! Album track Volcano appears higher here, with a feature from Silentó, who I can assure you does not appear with his solo song Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae). Volcano is a surefire hit I think and they've been crazy not to release it so far. Let's hope it gets them back into the UK top 40. The song has since peaked at #5 in my chart but I imagine would keep up their 100% #1 hit rate with singles if they decided to push it!

A huge love/hate song, Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor are at #119 with Marvin Gaye. I wasn't keen on the song really at first but it slowly grew on me, hence a very long chart run and fairly low peak! It's one of the biggest non-top 10s in my chart's history. Meghan Trainor still has Dear Future Husband left in the countdown but Charlie Puth is now out of songs. Also quite love/hate is LunchMoney Lewis' debut hit Bills. It was much more instant for me than Marvin Gaye and it had a good chart run, peaking at #7.

Other chart hits appear in this section, including Calvin Harris' huge smash hit How Deep Is Your Love. Despite a chart run that's not particularly long, it's easily his best song for me and it hasn't tired on me as much as his other good songs, including both Ellie collabs. Ellie herself appears here at #113 with On My Mind, a favourite of Aly's I heard :kink: On My Mind also seems to divide opinion but I always quite liked it, despite an initially jarring chorus. Jess "horrible woman" Glynne completes the chart hits in this section, with the song she was less horrible for as she decided to donate profits of it to Children In Need. Seriously though, Take Me Home is a gorgeous song and quite safely her best song to date.

Elina Born is a song I know through BJSC, and more recently Eurovision earlier this year, and thanks to Ryan, her single Kilimanjaro became a brief chart hit. It's a perfect little pop song and extremely catchy, I wish I'd given it a longer chart run actually! Another recommendation from a fellow Buzzjacker, Saint Raymond appears again at #118 with the song Bray introduced me to him with. Fall At Your Feet is quite Ed Sheeran-y and I really liked it on first listen. It got a second gust after the album was released, with a slightly updated recording of the song. Finally, rounding the section out is BØRNS and his debut single Electric Love. The song was entered by Klumzee to BJSC and went totally under the radar at the time, I didn't give it a single point. Months later, I turned Radio 1 on and a Live Lounge was playing - it was this song and I didn't even recognise it lol. I really enjoyed it anyway and it sold the song to me at last. Better late than never, eh?

PICK OF THE SECTION

Cheerleader  That is definitely the song that defined the first half of the year for me.

I also love Bills. Couldn't sound any more one hit wonder-y but still a great piece of catchy pop.

Hi Joseph,

111 BØRNS - Electric Love - 5-8-12-20-28-X (5 weeks)

112 The Vamps - Volcano (feat. Silentó) - 12-… (1+ weeks)

113 Ellie Goulding - On My Mind - 15-8-9-13-21-29-37-40-X (8 weeks)

114 Elina Born - Kilimanjaro - 5-13-29-X (3 weeks)

115 Jess Glynne - Take Me Home - 29-22-4-11-… (4+ weeks)

117 Calvin Harris & Disciples - How Deep Is Your Love - 7-6-14-18-27-39-X (6 weeks)

118 Saint Raymond - Fall At Your Feet - 6-10-18-31-X-10-20-34-X (7 non-consecutive weeks)

119 Charlie Puth - Marvin Gaye (feat. Meghan Trainor) - 40-33-35-30-37-26-21-15-21-28-35-30-40-X (13 weeks)

120 The Vamps - Rest Your Love - 17-… (1+ weeks)

The Vamps, Ellie, Jess, Calvin, Saint Raymond and also Charlie Purth all really good :D

Hi Joseph

Electric Love is really nice, I 'liked' it in BJSC but it massively grew on me when I started hearing it on R1. I still don't believe it's a boy singing though, he has mad talent!

On My Mind is waaaay too low here, still makes me sad seeing all the distaste for it when for me it's a perfect retaliation to Ed and has so much energy. Maybe she's not so good at it live but in studio form, it's a real banger!

:D

Thanks all! :D

Josh - I agree, Garrett's voice is top class, really elevates the song. His album doesn't quite live up to the song but it's not a bad listen! On My Mind is solid, it definitely doesn't translate live though :heehee:

101 Carrie Underwood - Smoke Break - 20-5-9-13-16-19-29-31-X (8 weeks)

102 Foxes - Better Love - 4-9-19-26-38-X (5 weeks)

103 James Bay - Scars - 39-20-25-9-10-7-11-18-30-X (9 weeks)

104 Delta Goodrem - Only Human - 1-4-7-11-21-28-30-X (7 weeks)

105 Wølffe - Shoot You Down - 9-13-19-27-26-18-23-30-35-X (9 weeks)

106 Mariah Carey - Infinity - 3-13-21-X (3 weeks)

107 Mark Ronson - Uptown Funk (feat. Bruno Mars) - 15-14-18-17-16-14-13-17-28-39-X (10 weeks)

108 Madonna - Living For Love - 15-20-25-35-X-8-12-15-17-24-28-38-X (11 non-consecutive weeks)

109 Reed Deming - Want Me More - 4-11-15-22-36-X (5 weeks)

110 Demi Lovato - Kingdom Come (feat. Iggy Azalea) - 14-5-11-25-34-X (5 weeks)

I don't think it's a particularly big secret that I'm a huge Iggy Azalea fan, so when I saw that she was collaborating with friend Demi Lovato on her album, I was really excited for what they'd come up with. Kingdom Come is basically Black Widow Pt 3 (Beg For It was Pt 2), but that's no bad thing when Black Widow was an amazing song. Demi's incredible vocals are shown off with a huge chorus, and I really like Iggy's rap too. The Iggy backlash has to STOP people  She still has two songs to come, while Demi has one.

Reed Deming managed to make it as high as #3 in last year's EOY with his song Crash Test Dummy (Broken). He doesn't make it anywhere near as high this year as 2015 single Want Me More only ends up at #109, but it's a pretty good pop song. Also slightly underperforming compared to normal is Delta Goodrem, who despite having massive hit Wings still to come, has become the first artist to have a #1 single on my chart place outside the EOY top 100. Only Human is a nice song but I think it only really made the top spot due to her name. It is nice though.

Madonna fell over at the BRITs 2015 (:D) but she still achieves a respectable position of #108 for lead single Living For Love here. 2015 was the year I became a Madge fan, starting the year owning 0 albums of hers, and finishing it owning them all. There are lots of hits and misses throughout her discography and this is a surefire hit for me, great song. She's joined in this section by another female superstar, in the form of Mariah Carey. Infinity was released to mark the release of her #1 to Infinity collection, and flopped quite badly worldwide but I do enjoy the song, even if it shows that her voice isn't quite what it used to be.

Fleur East makes her second appearance of the countdown at #107 with her debut hit Uptown Funk, released after she performed it on The X Factor. Fleur dominated 2015 with this song and it paved the way for single #2 Sax to smash. Seriously though, Fleur's Uptown Funk performance was the first I'd heard of the song and it sold it to me really well. The original is great also, Bruno Mars is hit and miss with me (mostly miss) but this is by far the best thing he's been involved with.

Also in this section we have my BJSC entry from Wølffe. I discovered her when I saw Hunter Hayes live in May and she was the support act, and then saw her as Hunter's support act once again in September  The song is darker than my usual entries but I really like it, the production is slick too. Also someone I discovered as a support act, James Bay's third single Scars is at #103. I saw James when he supported Tom Odell in February 2014 and I was very excited for his music right from then. Scars wasn't a highlight from the album but its single release allowed it to grow on me a lot!

Finally, rounding out the section, Foxes flopped with both her 2015 singles which was a huge shame, as both make up my top 2 Foxes songs. Better Love did the worst of the two, despite Dan from Bastille doing backing vocals (thank god it wasn't a proper feature). Just above Foxes is Carrie Underwood, only just missing out on the top 100 with Smoke Break. The song is typical Carrie, a huge chorus and soaring vocals throughout. Great lead single for the wonderful Storyteller album.

Artists

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Conrad%20Sewell.png

6 Conrad Sewell

This is one that came out of nowhere! I first heard of Conrad just like the rest of you I imagine, through Firestone. I heard Firestone for the first time during the chart and didn't think much of it, I actually found it quite bland. I heard it more as the weeks went on of course and it slowly started to hit me, and I thought I'd look and see if Conrad had any other material. I found out that in fact, he did, and I downloaded his song Hold Me Up. It proved to be a grower as well, as I liked it a fair amount at first but didn't love it. A few weeks later, I rediscovered Hold Me Up and it was when I began to love both that and Firestone. Start Again, Who You Lovin and his Arty collaboration Braver Love have also been top 5 hits in my chart as the year has gone on, so Conrad has quite clearly dominated.

The thing that lets Conrad down slightly in this rank is the lack of an album. His All I Know EP is very strong as I mentioned earlier in the thread, and his voice is like gold dust to my ears, but I can't really judge him against other artists this year when he's not released a full length album yet. It is, however, possibly my #1 most anticipated album going into 2016, so I have very high hopes based on the extremely good material so far! Here's to 2016 being the year Conrad takes over *.*

How Deep Is Your Love should be at least 100 places higher :( (this must be the third time I've used this comment lol), such a good song though

yay for On My Mind and Take Me Home, hopefully your top 100 has some more good songs in it.

looking forward to seeing who has 'Firestone' higher on their EOY, you or me? :P

  • Author
Thanks Dan! :D I imagine Firestone will end up higher in yours haha but it's still pretty high up mine, without spoiling anything :heehee:
I never got the Iggy backlash towards her music. Towards some of the things she said, maybe, but that doesn't erase how iconic a lot of her songs are.
  • Author
I don't think she's even said anything massively bad? Unless I've forgotten something of course :drama: It seems like a bandwagon people have jumped on to look cool. A big shame as Iggy's music is excellent.

I'm pretty sure the Iggy backlash happened because of this being iconically bad
