Treasured Soul is amazing, would love more of that type of hit around.

 

And great to see Trap Queen so high up there, around about where it'll be on my chart. Surprised 679 has outperformed that though it's not as good IMO.

They definitely were, it's always good to see dance songs going to #1 :heart:

Yep I do love the Spinnin' Records type smashes, wish more of them would chart.

679 is slightly better for me, there's only a few places between the two songs though as you'll see when I get to it.

 

City Lights - One of the best on Stories :cheer: it'll be about the same position in my EOY I think.

 

CSP is great and Promesses is quite good, didn't really love it that much though. I heard House Every Weekend on NNE and I think I'm loving it even more now (also forgot to chart it oop)

 

Are You With Me - great start from LF and the Kungs remix is even more lush :music:

Treasured Soul - This is great, loved it for a while but gone off it a bit quickly, I guess because it's quite repetitive and the deep voice vocals don't always do it for me

 

Trap Queen - I grew to this slightly but the Two Friends remix does it a lot better for me

 

Holding On - great track, prefer Bang That/Magnets and their White Noise era, now THAT was a tune :music:

Easy Love, House Every Weekend and Can't Stop Playing (Makes Me High) are all great. Are You With Me and Treasured Soul are both good aswell.

 

Trap Queen is horrific, and Holding On was the start of me losing hope for Disclosure. I can't say I particularly like Broken Arrows either, but the video is one of the best of the year.

I'm surprised Holding On got such a poor reaction from many, it's got everything that's good about them in it!! Yay for you liking those other tunes anyway. Not surprised about your Fetty Wap hate though :P

Yay at Can't Stop Playing getting some more recognition and someone else who actually likes Ane Brun's addition, the vocals are quirky but it makes the song way more interesting otherwise it would just be another banger but she definitely elevates it.

 

Always forget Promesses was even this year but it was a real banger, shame it wasn't a bigger hit though because it really is forgotten in terms of chart hits. Excited to see what else he has coming out, hope it's just as commercial. I didn't really get Untrue.

I like both versions equally to be honest, it took a while to get her vocals but they're certainly good.

Well Promesses was technically from 2013. :P but yep it's properly amazing.

 

Loving Jess, Sigala and Michael Calfan from the last two pages :wub: I wish I'd have kept 'Treasured Soul' in my chart a bit longer as it's a good dance track. Shame about it's Official Run as well :(

Its chart run was quite good, considering. Unfortunately a song like that is never gonna be a proper big hit really. Except on personal charts like mine.

Commentary

Starting the top 15 is Shaun Frank who teamed up with KSHMR as well as regular collaborator Delaney Jane for a proper house tune. It's hard to define it as just one genre as it's a mix of progressive and future, which I love. With some of the most emotional lyrics and delivery of the year, it's not just a club banger but something you can really relate to, but of course the drop is excellent and would work perfectly in a dj set. The outro is also one of the best of the year, bringing it all together with a lovely string section until the beat drops out and we're just left with those strings. It really sounds... heavenly. (I know, but I'm not a thesaurus).

Commentary

For many years I thought Major Lazer would never top the effort of 'Pon de Floor' but they came back smashing all expectations with the brilliant 'Lean On', which is bound to be very high in many EOYs. Why is it so brilliant? Great vocals, production sounds fresh, and it's more subtle and melodic than most trap music. Its well on its way to a billion YouTube views so loads of people must be seeing the greatness of this tune.

Commentary

Fetty's back and this time with his Remy Boyz (who are now just Remy Boy as P-Dice got dropped from the group, lol.) on '679'. I went into this thinking 'Trap Queen' is so great there's no way he'll be able to match its quality, but of course it did, eventually peaking at #9 (coincidentally one of the numbers of the song title) and spending 16 weeks in the top 20. It's just such a catchy and danceable song and the three rap verses are all great (the album version without P-Dice's input just isn't as good). It's got all the trademark Fetty-isms in it too and just generally a great urban club banger.

Commentary

Jasmine Thompson went ahead and did a cover of the 80s hit 'Ain't Nobody' but it wasn't until Felix Jaehn did his magic on the track when the song started to really smash everywhere. And it's just irresistibly catchy and good, if these cover versions are going to get done then this is the way to go about it. Felix does have his own style of house which I am loving, and it just makes the song really good. Of course, this is not the last we will see of him in this countdown, as 'Cheerleader' is a strong contender for this year's #1 song.

Commentary

Just missing out on the top 10 is 'BANG!' which served as the first Danaelandan BJSC entry of the year as well as being the #1 single for the first five weeks of the year. It is deep house at its finest, there's a nice guitar riff and a chilled out Robin Schulz style beat. What really brings it up to its standard is the vocals. April, who I can't find anything about thanks to her name does a really good job, and the 2nd verse where Sandy does vocal harmony is really lovely too.

Commentary

Starting off the top 10 is Sigala, who would probably be a huge contender for the #1 if the song wasn't released so close to the end of the year. As it is, a fair bit of its chart run will spill over to 2016 but not enough to allow it a second year in the EOY chart according to the recurrent rules. It is such a good tune though and I'm still not bored of it as evidenced by its current chart run. It's just so uplifting and does everything 'Easy Love' does better. The vocal is really powerful too which I love and to be honest this would've sounded really good as a summer jam, but we need winter floorfillers too so yay.

Ferry Wap ruining a good section there :(

Commentary

Calvin came back after having never really left as he often does, this time bringing a deep house banger with the help of Disciples on production. It quickly became one of the defining songs of the summer, debuting whilst I was on holiday too which was great, though I'd be lying if I said it was one of the best holiday moments. I'm definitely looking forward to what Calvin does next as this seems like a good first step away from genericfests like 'Summer' and 'Blame' that we don't need another one of.

Commentary

If I'd have asked you which act would be the only to make two appearances in my top 10, most of you probably would have said Avicii. But you'd have been wrong, because it's Pep & Rash. They make their first appearance here with 'Red Roses', the follow-up to #1 hit 'Rumors' which is still to come. It instantly broke records when it entered at #8, becoming the highest charting song by an unknown artist ever as Spinnin' went for the weird release strategy of putting the song on Spotify under the artist name 'ID' weeks before revealing the identity. The song itself is really great future house, with a completely unexpected drop that hits hard every time, after a more melodic and gentler buildup. "and then it hit me", says a male voice just before the drop, the only vocal of the song, and hit me it did.

Commentary

After many attempts Alesso finally got a deserved #1 single, the Kylie inspired 'Cool'. It really is a flawless progressive house/dance pop song, just so good. The lyrics build nicely across the song leading eventually to the middle 8 where he really lets his voice out. I even tried to mash up this song with Get Outta My Way but the Roy English vocal just sounds so much better on the track. The production is great too, with a great hands up melodic drop which sounds even more euphoric than 'Heroes' as great as that is. It'll be incredibly hard to top this effort anyway so well done Alesso.

Commentary

Well isn't this song lush? Originally a BJSC entry in 2014 but it somehow passed me by, it wasn't until the start of last year I was really getting into it, and eventually it would dethrone 'Rumors' from #1. The uptempo tropical house vibes are just so great and I love the sample too, it's only a few lyrics but it really encapsulates the feel of the song well. Sadly there's only room for five songs in my top 5 as I'd love this to be in the top 5 too, but that just says about the quality of my top 5.

I agree on 679, I didn't expect Fetty Wap to outdo himself and make something worse than Trap Queen but he did.

A weaker version of Wake Me Up yes, but that song was a 13/10 moment so Avicii's forgiven :P and of course, Waiting For Love happened.

Yay for you liking so much from this section anyway! Sigala certainly could've challenged for the top 5 if he had more time, but as it is I think #10 is the best position for him.

What an amazing section that is! Cool & Makes Me Feel Better will be challenging for my #1 for certain.

 

Sweet Lovin' is a great song to have around at the moment with such little activity.

 

Obviously hoping for an Avicii win (surely he has to?) but any of those would be good winners except for Pep & Rash, never got into that.

Commentary

After the minor hit 'Megalodon' nothing KSHMR did interested me much, and he just seemed like another generic big room producer. Until he released the progressive house banger 'JAMMU' of course which really got my attention. It is progressive house at its best, and quite original too especially with the sitar use and interesting chord progression. It does follow a formula but it really stands out above the rest, and KSHMR has already released some more great tunes since so I'm really interested in him as a producer now, though it'll be very hard to top this I imagine.

Commentary

What a great song this is. Kygo had already done some cool remixes so it was about time he gave us what he had for an original release. And he really impressed. It has everything I love about him, with the subtle verses which build up so nicely to end up becoming a brilliant drop. With tropical house being new back then I found the production so fresh, and the slow pace of the song really works too. It seems that Kygo will never be able to top this but like KSHMR he's continued to bring the goods and remain the best in his genre. Well, except Felix Jaehn technically but their styles of tropical house are so different from each other they may as well be separate genres.

Commentary

This year's bronze medalists are Omi and Felix Jaehn, and this song is also the highest UK #1 in the EOY meaning for the first time in the history of my EOY chart, the EOY #1 is NOT a UK #1. This is such a fun song anyway, plus I love the sax in it. It was amazing to see this get so huge everywhere too, I thought it would be a hit but not the 2nd biggest song of the year!! The song also made me properly notice Felix Jaehn too, and he's since released some more great songs. As for Omi, not so much oops.
