On My Mind is indeed very clever, really glad to see that and Shut Up And Dance so high!
Good to see someone else is a fan of 'On My Mind'.
YES! It's truly underrated compared to her singles. Then again, she rarely misses - the last time I can think of was "How Long Will I Love You?".

Lilly_Wood_and_the_Prick_and_Robin_Schulz_-_Prayer_in_C.png

20.) Lilly Wood & The Prick - "Prayer In C (Robin Schulz Mix)"
Chart Points: 17433
2nd single, Prayer
Chart Run: 45-39-36-31-14-9-8-4-4-3-1-1-3-5-7-10-12-16-18-20-23-25-32-37-44 (25 weeks (18 in 2015))

Kicking off the top 20 is a song that was HUGE worldwide, and ended up smashing in the US nearly four months after it reached #1 in the UK. Naturally, the time it started impacting in the US was the time I really got into this song. Actually, at first I was kinda wary that this song will end up being shamelessly overrated, but luckily I was not disappointed - and it became one of my favorite songs of the year, despite being a summer song peaking in the tail end of winter. Oops. Robin Schulz performed amazingly in 2015, and I hope the minor success of "Sugar" worldwide and hopefully "Show Me Love" will help with that.

19.) Carly Rae Jepsen - "I Really Like You"
Chart Points: 17483
Lead single, E•MO•TION
Chart Run: 2-2-1-3-4-4-6-5-10-13-17-20-24-27-29-37-42-44 (19 weeks)

My 50th #1 of my entire chart comes up here. I could sense that there was a lot of hype for CRJ's next big single, and I was so sure that this would be it, and it happened... in the UK at least. Yeah, commercially this flopped everywhere else in the world (including Canada, what happened?) but it won the hearts of so many, judging July the critical acclaim and the reactions to the video. I was taken aback to the sudden, for lack of a better term, backlash towards Carly's singles this era, as I thought that they would perform just as well as "Call Me Maybe" or a bit less, like a top 3 in the US at least I would be happy with. Another one of those "hits that got away". CRJ seems to fall victim to this category a lot.

Bieber in the video tho.

Two great songs there with 'Prayer In C' which featured in My Top40 Songs of 2014. Stills sounds as fresh as anything there.

'I Really Like You' one of my favourite songs from her still sounds very catchy and the video was terrific with the cameo from Tom Hanks. Hope she has another hit in the UK soon.

Somebody_-_Natalie_La_Rose.png

18.) Natalie La Rose f/Jeremih - "Somebody"
Chart Points: 17504
Lead single, TBA
Chart Run: 49-40-37-28-27-22-21-19-15-10-9-5-1-3-4-8-12-16-16-18-18-21-26-32-35-41-47-49-48-50 (30 weeks)

I remember hearing this during the beginning of January before a workout and though my sister would like it (which I was right about). It was the rest of the world I was surprised with. This time last year, o would have never fathomed this song being as bit as it was worldwide - I actually thought this was gonna go low top 15 on pop, nothing more nothing less. Not only did it surprise me, but it eventually grew so much that it did eventually reach #1 on my chart. What I dig about this track is the swag that it possesses, not just on Natalie's parts, but surprisingly with Jeremih's as well. It's also classy enough that you don't need to twerk on the wall to it, but you have that sudden urge to do it. She features on the vocal remix of "Wombass", which could see an impact this year. I guess we'll see.

Rant incoming for the next song.

Another song part of the collection of hits that got away. Seriously, songs like this flopping make me want to strangle someone - in this case, the entire population of the United Kingdom. UK, what's good? Why are you letting this kid flop now? This is a song that does sound like it would be "R U Crazy" part 2 for him - big band influences mixed with the hip-hop flavor that has been so prominent in his music, and now that this sort of style is in, it flops. It's one of his most unique as well, compared to the rest of his discography. This flopping kinda proved that the UK has no shame putting endless tripe forward and snub all of the good songs so that they don't see the light of day. One good thing has come out of it though: this song will never get tired.

I think looking back at it now, this had too short of a chart run.

Both of Maynard's tracks are good but not as amazing as his Contrast era when I enjoyed pretty much every one of his singles. Oh and that I'm Famous track is so dull -_-

I do however love Carly and Mr. Schulz :D

I only like Conor in "I'm Famous" but that's only like 30 seconds of the entire song :(

Prayer In C

Nice to see Savages so high, definitely revamped my image of Cor Lupus as a quality nation.

Loving a bit of 'Somebody' there in your countdown. Love the 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' vibes in the song.

Prayer In C <3 Great throwback to last year, definitely my favourite of all the chilled house songs that have come out over the last couple of years.

Yeah, Prayer was when I really started to get into Robin Schulz as an artist.

I've been trying to find another song that's basically "Savages" the sequel but it's sooooooo hard...

There was something about Jeremih that made it so slick.

16.) Conor Maynard - "Talking About"

Chart Points: 17637

Non-album single

Chart Run: 1-3-2-1-2-5-7-3-7-11-15-18-19-23-26-30-35-36-42-46-49 (21 weeks)

Conor's first dabble into a more deep house sound. It got slaughtered by streaming and the only thing it could muster was a low top 50 peak, which was something I didn't want to accept. The deep house comeback seemed to be the kiss of death for someone's career back then. Anyway, it was such a sick song and it really deserves better than it actually got. This song was one of two debuts in the week of March 8, and one of two songs that premiered in the first week of March. Yeah, that month was a bit crazy. Luckily, it amounted two weeks at #1 and despite a quick drop, it still resonates well in my playlist.

I remember seeing one article where in an interview, he thought Craig David was going to beat him up. Bless his heart.

There were songs that spent 30+ weeks on the chart and Conor was your main choice for my biggest song of the year?

15.) New Politics - "West End Kids"
Chart Points: 17680
2nd single, Vikings
Chart Run: 38-34-23-16-11-7-4-3-3-5-6-9-12-17-19-21-23-26-29-31-34-38-42-46-46-49 (26 weeks)

The highest BJSC entry comes from a band that I've stanned for a lot for a pretty long time, and I was completely sold when they decided to release another high octane single. New Politics is one of the best bands that I've seen live (freaking David was climbing onto one of the light pillars!!!) and their third album release was one of my most anticipated albums of the year. Of course, sending this to BJSC was kind of the turning point for the song's chart run (and subsequently my BJSC career). I mean, I knew it would go top 10 some way or another but I never thought it would break barriers like it did. There were people who I thought wouldn't like the more punk side of my tastes who ate it up, and for that I am grateful. This is their most carefree song yet, and it's another epic that represents the streets of upstate New York in their view.

Also, Brendon Urie in the video blows my mind.

He's so bad but he does it so well...

Taylor_Swift_-_Wildest_Dreams_(Official_Single_Cover).png

14.) Taylor Swift - "Wildest Dreams"
Chart Points: 18173
5th single, 1989
Chart Run: 10-2-2-3-1-3-3-4-7-10-13-16-19-27-32-39-44... (17 weeks)

This actually didn't start out as one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs: while the album itself was extremely strong, it seemed to fade away in comparison to much of the first half of the album, but once it became a single, it was shifted into the forefront of my playlist. What I enjoy about Taylor's songs is that her back catalog doesn't have to be all uptempo to be enjoyable, she can also shine in songs like these. The video seemed to help me raise my affections as well - with an Out Of Africa-esque setting and Scott Speedman in the leading male role, she proves that "Wildest Dreams" is definitely something you'd hear in your wildest dreams.

What do I think of her with a brunette wig? Decent. I prefer her classic blonde look though.

Shame that this only peaked at #39 in the UK. This was another quality song from her.

Since Wildest Dreams sounded so much like Lana Del Rey it made sense for Taylor to look like Lana in the video too. It's my second-favorite single from 1989 but my favorite video, very well done!

Shawn_Mendes_-_Stitches.png

13.) Shawn Mendes - "Stitches"

Chart Points: 18518

3rd single, Handwritten

Chart Run: 46-38-40-33-30-28-28-24-24-15-11-11-9-9-8-7-5-7-11-12-17-18-22-23-28-35-37-36-36-38-40-42-45-47-48-49-50 (37 weeks)

So I remember discovering "Life Of The Party" by this guy and immediately thought "who tf is this guy?" Spoiler alert: I hated it. And I legit thought that his album was going to be filled with a bunch of re-hashes of this song, which would have driven me crazy. Then "Something Big" happened and it was a change for the better because it was more upbeat and whimsical and anthemic. Then his album came and lo and behold, half of it is "Life Of The Party" on repeat. Now if you know my track record with MOR, they're usually hit-or-miss: they could either be like Ed Sheeran and I can totally click with it, or they can be like James Bay and annoy the f*ck out of me. Most MOR songs fall into the latter category.

So then what made me like "Stitches" so much?

The song is structured like a song that I would never expected to like. Hell, it's one that my dad would eat up. But there's something about the whole "Love is like morphine withdrawals" theme that just gets to me. The beginning of the song sounds like Shawn is confused as to why he's feeling the way he feels and as the song progresses, it's eating him alive and those soft whispers turn into cries of anguish. The juxtapositions of the dark and brooding tone with the otherwise chipper instrumental captivate me in a way that no other Shawn Mendes song would.
