At #191 we have Ella Henderson for the fourth time with the bop that is Billie Holiday. It's a fun, funky song, and I like the jazzy element of it. But then again, I like the all the album.

Following his passing in April, Ben E. King's classic Stand By Me entered my personal chart at #10. Despite having a relatively short run, it did well enough to make the EOY top 200. However, it couldn't be the most successful Stand By... song.

From one Ben straight to another, at #189 we have Ben Haenow with last week's X Factor Winner's Single. Having been released at the very end of 2014, its run was split into two years, and despite its rather fast descent, it still did well enough to make the EOY top 200.

Stand By Me is one of my all time favouite songs :heart: not surprising that bass line has been sampled to no end ever since.

 

Something I Need was surprisingly good after I wasn't a huge fan of him in the show.

#188: Little Mix - I Love You

At #188 we have the lovely I Love You, which is the first of seven Little Mix tracks in this countdown. It hasn't been named as a Get Weird highlight by many people, but personally, I think it's one of the best tracks. And despite having only 7 weeks, it still made the top 200 of the year! That's pretty good going.

#187: Sam Smith - Lay Me Down (not the Comic Relief version)

I really do not get what makes this so hated! The Comic Relief is bad, I am not disputing that. But this version is actually great.

This has to be one of the saddest songs in quite some time. Retelling the story of his grandfather's 20 year long suffering of Alzheimer's disease, we hear Ed Sheeran's reaction to the disease, going from when his grandfather couldn't recognize him anymore to his funeral, after which he finished writing the song. It's sad that this horrid disease has affected and will continue to affect many people.

Featuring (currently) uncredited vocals from Beyoncé, Hymn For The Weekend was premiered on Annie Mac's show a few days before the release of A Head Full Of Dreams. When I listened to the album, this was the clear highlight (that's not to say that A Head Full Of Dreams, Birds, Everglow and Fun aren't any good either). This has got to be the second single.

DJ has redept himself although I enjoyed that Turn Down For What song :(

I don't mind Prayer In C, it tired on me super quickly though. Sugar is a vast improvement, the best thing Robin Schulz has put his name to :wub:

I didn't mind Prayer In C at first, but now it makes me feel tired. I agree that Sugar is a lot better.

 

I find Wiggle really catchy even if the lyrics are awful :lol: Cheyenne is a little weak though and apart from WTWM this year's era is weak on the whole imo.

 

Love Fancy :music: again the lyrics are poor but oh well. Doing is is great but not as amazing.

 

Love PIC of course but Sugar is great not amazing. I love DJ Fresh most of the time but he's been releasing weak stuff since Gravity for me. Earthquake is quite good but so different to his stuff. Love DDS and MUB though :music:

I can't say anything else I've heard pieces of has made me want to listen to the whole song, so you may have a point. It seems Jason can't get more than one tune per era.

 

Justin Bieber defiantly has redeemed himself :heart:

 

I completely disagree with you however, on DJ Fresh, Dibby Dibby Sound and Earthquake are excellent and just as great as Make U Bounce and Gravity are :D

Yeah Justin's been one of the biggest redeemers of all time for me with Baby :puke: only #40 on all time for you though? :o

 

All Justin's tracks this year were great though :dance:

 

IDM was just ok but yeah DLD was great :music:

 

Seasons was good but weak effort from Olly. The Insomnia remix was pretty good, the original was much better though. AATB was a long grower but still isn't amazing. Love Fight Song :wub: love Stand by You even more though. Needs to be big and hearing the album very soon :dance:

It's a classic, and he will be remembered thanks to it. It may be over half a century old, but it somehow sounds fresh.

 

I wasn't the biggest fan of Ben Haenow on The X Factor either. He was my least favourite out of the final 4.

The Hanging Tree comes from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, and it was a big hit with me, entering straight in at #13 on my personal chart. It then fell at a slightly fast rate, but it still remained in my chart long enough to make the end of year top 200.

Culture Club's classic Karma Chameleon spent a few weeks in my chart after I first heard it on Now That's What I Call A Million!, reaching as high as #55.

Loving the throwback tracks in this count down, Chameleon a gem of the eighties.

 

I actually quite liked Lay Me Down, both versions in fact. The solo is better but I don't mind John's vocals either (other than when they are singing together, that doesn't work).

#182: Take That - Hey Boy

This has got to be the most bizarre song on this countdown, but really, that's why I like it so much. Obviously it isn't a patch on These Days (or on other Take That songs such as Rule The World, Babe, Could It Be Magic? or Patience) but it's still a good track.

Who would have thought a member of Westlife would actually make a really good song? But that's what happened, as former member Markus Feehily kicked off his solo career with this surprisingly excellent song. It spent 7 weeks in my top 40, one of which was at #10.

The first of twelve Years & Years tracks in this countdown, Take Shelter actually repeaked in the first week of 2016, so perhaps another appearance in next week's EOY is possible. Time will tell. Personally, I'd much rather see this or Real get re-released than Gold to be the next single, as the latter is one of the weaker tracks (and one of the two tracks on the standard edition to not appear in this countdown, the other being Wthout).

LMLY is quite low here :o I think it's coming up in my top 100, Jamie Lawson teas :heehee:

 

All versions of LMD are boring :lol: it's his most boring yet, his others are listenable though, well maybe not WOTW.

First, what are referring to as LMLY because there isn't any song with those initials to have been announced.

 

Thinking Out Loud was always going to be released as a single after its ridiculous success as an album track. I'm surprised he stopped at Photograph, there was perhaps more single material and he definitely would have gotten away with milking the era a bit longer. Not to mention, Afire Love is fantastic.

#179: Luke Friend - Hole In My Heart

At #179 we have Luke Friend with Hole In My Heart. Luke finished in third place on The X Factor in 2013. This just edged in the top 40, knocking "Stay With Me" out of the top 40 in the process, before falling to #91 and never being heard of again. It was quite a nice track, actually, although I'm sure he can do better.
