April 25, 20169 yr Poor Katy! She moved her album forward to a quieter week and one of the most beloved musical icons sadly passes and Beyonce Beyonces another album. Hype vacuum.
April 25, 20169 yr all that said...when was she ever going to make chart splashes of maximised relevancy? she's going in a different career path trajectory where it's not chart-prescribed bangers aren't the defining feature that shapes a career. I might not like every pay off but I respect/admire Katy's to go out there musically and really do something // and b properly engaged
April 25, 20169 yr How is 'I Wanna Be' not a huge hit? Seriously surprised the gays haven't leaped on it.

I might not like every pay off but I respect/admire Katy's to go out there musically and really do something // and b properly engaged Perhaps... but then 'Who Am I' is one of her most made-for-radio/the charts singles to date surely? With the feature and quite simplistic/universal lyrics so I think she definitely wanted a big hit to start the era which sadly she hasn't got. I'd say it's too big a try to make a chart splash that it's clichéd which has meant people haven't lapped it up. I have listened to, and enjoy the album. It's not as strong as the previous two and certainly doesn't have anywhere near the amount of highlights that they have but it's solid and really shouldn't be fading out without a trace. :(
April 25, 20169 yr How is 'I Wanna Be' not a huge hit? Seriously surprised the gays haven't leaped on it. They've not even pushed it, in fact they've even opted to go with the title track instead of it.
April 25, 20169 yr Absolutely adore this album. I'm not sure where it sits alongside her other two as it's obviously still early days, but definitely her third great album out of three. 'Dark Delirium', 'Water Rising', 'Lose Your Head' and 'Honey (Outro)' on repeat for me right now.
April 29, 20169 yr I think the label are going to treat this as just a buzz album. That's basically what it is really. Would have gone top 20 if it weren't for Prince's death, 5 of his albums are above her. Still I expected a top 10 from this but with the lack of a hit single it was never really going to be a big seller.
April 29, 20169 yr Not only would it have charted higher, but if Princeoncye had not happened this week I'm sure it would have picked up more sales, it just fell in a hype vacuum in the week of release for reasons out of their control. It just wasn't on anyone's radar. It's a shame because a lot of effort went into getting big names, lots of adverts on tv etc.
May 1, 20169 yr How is I Wanna Be not a single?! Always heard it on annie mac's friday night show and loved it and wondered who it was. This is her best ever song and if they push it. It could be massive this summer! Such a chilled out banger!!! <3
May 2, 20169 yr I am obsessed with 'I Wanna Be' <33 This album did not deserve to chart this low, it's got some really good moments on it.
May 4, 20169 yr I listened to the first half of the album and I am unimpressed with the fusion of RnB and dance sound.
May 5, 20169 yr I listened to the first half of the album and I am unimpressed with the fusion of RnB and dance sound. It's what she's been doing since day one. She does it very well imo. The albums gets better the more I listen to it. It's really quite understated and mature. I don't think it compares to v high quality of 'Little Red' but it's a solid effort nonetheless.
May 6, 20169 yr 'I Wanna Be' and 'Who Am I' are both incredible. I've enjoyed four songs from this album, I just wish I could hear 'Turn The Music Louder' solo because it's not on spotify.
May 7, 20169 yr Was initially disappointed by this as I wasn't engaged at all from early listens, smooth as her voice and the production are throughout, so I'm glad I gave it time to work its subtle charm properly. Aside from an obvious standout like 'I Wanna Be', there's plenty of moments that'd hold their own against her most accomplished stuff - 'Dark Delirium' and 'Water Rising' coming to mind in particular. The latter's just exquisite and I can't get enough. 'Honey (Outro)' is another one I keep coming back to, though like 'Lose Your Head' (which I find pretty awful apart from the chorus) it's really let down by the featured artist's lyrics and delivery. Not feeling a few of the contributions across the album as a whole - seems like a lack of quality control to me. Definitely agree that she deserves respect for the general direction of this album/project, but at the same time she can't exactly afford to be gone from the public's consciousness for too long so it'd be great to see her/her team get a better balance for her next outing. Not to say she hasn't produced anything hit-worthy this time around but such is life. -_- 'I wanna tell you but anxiety's a bitch, babe' is my favourite lyric in ages.
