January 19, 20169 yr I'm a Ruin still in?! Or have I missed it....? Living For Love should have been bigger, I could have seen it being staple Madonna if it had had a bit more attention. The production is wonderful.
January 19, 20169 yr Author Lovely evaluation of 'Your Type'. I like the track but I kind of dismissed it just because this synth-poppy sound is used a lot and I felt other artists did it better, but watching the video after reading your summary has definitely put a different light on the song. It must be hard for an artist to finally make a breakthrough with a huge hit only to struggle with future releases, but for it to then happen for a second time... At least it seems Carly has found peace with that matter though, as I read an article where she said it didn't really matter how much her record sells because it was the fact it was well-received by the fans and critics alike that mattered. Aww that final comment from her sort of comforts me a bit. I would hate for her to be defeated by the pressure of trying to be "successful" and the overwhelmingly positive response to the album should reassure her that people care. I agree with everything you just said about 'Living for Love'. Simple lyrics that convey a strong statement that epitomises what Madonna is all about right now: staying true to yourself, finding the positives in the bad and not giving up. The 90s house revival has kinda been exhausted now but it still sounds fresh and vitalising in this song. It helps that whenever I think of this song, I think about the BRITs and how she got up and carried on, proving she's still top of her game and remains a figure that other artists can be inspired by. Gotta practice what you preach and all that! It was inspirational. Whatever the response people had to her falling, no one can deny that she was a TROOPER. She is the biggest female artist of all time for a reason after all ~~ This song made me fall over like she did In a good way I hope :( (can you even fall over in a good way?) I'm a Ruin still in?! Or have I missed it....?
January 19, 20169 yr Author Everything's bound to break, sooner or later GgDxv0Qg_Rg SONGS 06. Madonna - Ghosttown From an artist that has recently been deemed to uncool, or too try hard to remain relevant, Madonna let this latest album do the talking (for the most part, and casually ignoring some of the singles lol). 'Ghosttown' is in ways a throwback to Madonna's greatest ballads from across the decades, but it is also a powerful reminder that she is still on top of her game and a cry into the future as she journeys further into this mad world trying to make sense of it all. 'Ghosttown' is an isolating, barren, wilderness of a song. It's huge. The video foreshadows an impending disaster, in which Madonna and her music is the saviour. As she sings of the inevitable breaking down of everything, the song is a constant reminder of the beauty and power of music to transcend all pain and sorrow and grief. When it all falls down, music will be the fire, the light, the company in the ghost town. When the world gets cold, music will be the cover and the saviour. The album as a whole is an appreciation of music and the gift that Madonna and others have given and this is the perfect song to encapsulate that mentality. There was a reason it was voted the #1 song by Rolling Stone, it's a powerhouse ballad of empowerment, strength and hope.
January 19, 20169 yr :hi: Bal, I have been reading along and really loving the top 20. I've really loved Years & Years' music this year, Shine is actually my least favourite of the three, but it did grow on me and King & Eyes Shut are both superb. Great to see Style, quite underrated pop moment, excellently constructed pop song. Great commentaries, really wrenching the songs and bringing out all their meaning even if I'm not familiar with them! Much  for Crywolf as you know and you described it wonderfully. I'm very pleased to have provided that to you and I would definitely recommend listening to his other material, it's of a very similar mysterious, dark and 'other-worldly' sound, and just as beautiful. He has loads of songs and EPs all over Youtube & Soundcloud! Edited January 19, 20169 yr by Chez Wombat
January 20, 20169 yr Those two are at least decent Ma donor songs, especially compared to the awful "Bitch I'm said artist" :puke: (what the factual duck was she thinking?)
January 21, 20169 yr It's a real shame that 'Living For Love' didn't do that well for her in the charts. Although a lack of streaming wasn't it?
January 21, 20169 yr Author I could treat you better but I’m not that smart ZT_skmohD-c SONGS 05. Marina & the Diamonds - I'm A Ruin The song that came and went and came and went throughout the year but one that I can now firmly say is one of the greatest released last year and perhaps now my favourite song from Marina. 'I'm A Ruin' is such a clever ballad, with tricky lyrics that make it quite hard to understand what she actually means throughout it. The song begins with Marina accepting that she is a ruin without her lover (or the mystery subject of the song) and as it goes along, the repeated refrain of 'i'll ruin you' offers some sort of solace as you cheer her on to continue fighting, but the final words uttered make the entire song come full circle and it was one of the most illuminating and spine-chilling musical moments of last year for me. Throughout you will her on to survive but as she utters "i'm a ruin" in its final moments and the song fades to silence it's something quite special and a perfect example of the power of story and narrative in a song. It's beautifully sung, without any gimmicks and it's Marina's most honest, raw, powerful song and a massive favourite of mine from 2015. Then the homage to Madonna's 'Frozen' in the music video. Yes. <3
January 21, 20169 yr Author Pull me out the blue qV-lgWw7dsQ SONGS 04. Kacy Hill - Shades of Blue And from one clever ballad to another. This time from much lesser known and appreciated beauty Kacy Hill. 'Shades of Blue' is one of three original songs taken from her debut EP 'BLOO' and it was the song that cemented her as a major spotlight for stars to look out for. The song is a tainted beauty, it comes as the third song in the EP as the rest of it builds up with a sort of melancholic sadness. But here it is total despair. She has stripped back the entirety of her feelings and let it all pour out into 3 glorious minutes of music. It is full of regret, remorse and reclusiveness. Kacy vocals are silk, smoothly flowing over the tribal music and her lyrics are an almighty gift. It's evident from one listen that she has thought about every single word uttered in the song because they all carry such meaning and thought and pain. The subtle hope in the chorus is met with the pain of her weakness and her inability to find relief or solace. I love nothing more than an artist exploring their most inner thoughts and feelings as I find it such a brave and cathartic experience to listen and indulge in it, but this actually went too far that way and became a bit of a depressant for me. I can hear past that now and appreciate it for the beauteous piece of music it is and I hope if you're even a slightly bit curious, you click on the link above and give it a listen too. I just pray she found some sort of peace in creating it sharing it because it cuts straight to the heart with every listen I give it.
January 21, 20169 yr I'm A Ruin is stunning, certainly really overlooked among many other songs this year. It's so powerful and striking <3
January 23, 20169 yr Author I was on my knees when nobody else was prayin' nntGTK2Fhb0 SONGS 03. Skrillex and Diplo with Justin Bieber - Where Are Ü Now The song that really brought the man into the limelight, teamed with the dreamteam of Skrillix & Diplo and quite the pioneer of this sort of sound becoming mainstream. 'Where Are Ü Now' begins with Bieber's tender vocals and the song is soon transformed into an almighty club banger. I loved the song pretty much instantly, but there were two things that cemented it as a Haus classic. The first was in Sheffield with Rob where it played on a (surreal) silent disco and we both instantly turned to the song and went wild. The drop quite literally went OFF and it was in that moment that I realised how fun and wondrous it was. The second event was the release of the music video. I'd say it was the best video released last year at least as far as mainstream music videos went. It's totally unadultered - the premise is simple - get any and everyone to paint their messages and feelings of the artist and then bring this alive by literally painting him in these comments and remarks. It's a brilliant video full of so much meaning and beings new meaning to an already rich song and the perfect way for the artist to shed his problems and past issues and seek retribution. I love it so much and it fills me with such elated sorrow and remorse every time I hear it <3
January 24, 20169 yr The one that sort of revived Bieber's career before his domination of the UK charts. Great to see Skrillex get mainstream chart success with this.
January 24, 20169 yr Whereareunow :funky: good start to Beiber slayage of the year  I'm A Ruin is a great track from Froot I didn't know he made music
January 24, 20169 yr Absolute jam, really grew to love it more in the context of Purpose too when he churned out so many more jams *.*
January 24, 20169 yr Where Are Ú Now  The definition of slow burner for me really, but it's become the gift that keeps on giving, I've yet to tire of it
January 24, 20169 yr Years & Years the highlight of your top 10 so far, also loving Skriplober!! as expected, quite a few here I haven't heard.
