Not heard your top 3 but Shut Up and Dance is quite good :o

Β

Hear my top 3 (if you want to)! They're amazing. I mean, you should like Empty Threat at least, it's your kind of pop.

RE: #2 - I saw Dragonforce and I was SOLD.

Β

Another Dragonforce fan?! HURRAH. I love their big songs at least, that's why I can call myself a fan yes. Through The Fire And Flames

Β

Babymetal so high

Β

I never knew Road Of Resistance had fans other than me honestly! I must have played it on plug so much and I can't remember it getting much reaction.

Hey Iz, sorry, only saw this now. Wow, Compass at number 1...I'm not sure what to say, I know I keep expressing surprise at this but I honestly didn't think it hit you this hard (clearly much more than it did me going by our charts). It really is a gorgeous, hopeful track, in fact I almost sent that to BJSC instead of Miracles but that grew on me a bit more. It's a wonderful piece of music, never fails to make me feel emotional, both instrumental and vocal. I'm so thrilled to give you such a great discovery and reading essays like that and Miracles really makes me feel quite...accomplished if that makes sense  I feel like I have a lot to live up to to provide you with something great next year as well

Β

On the rest of the chart (I could say quite a lot here so limiting myself!), Empty Threat is amazing, been really getting into it lately, it just missed my own EOY but I think it might like it now as much as Leave a Trace, exactly the sort of thing they do well. Shut Up & Dance is still amazing, I never quite got Runaway, but Peanut Butter Jelly is still fun and fantastic, so great to see that in your top 10. Much <3 for Holes in the Sky as well, seems me and you are the only ones that were REALLY hit by that :'( Against the Current & I See Stars were your best from BJSC, they took a while to click but I really like them now.

Β

Long comment oops, but yeah, wonderful to follow as ever, someone else writing 100+ in-depth, descriptive, adjective filled essays is always great to see! :D

I don't know, it just hit me in the most perfect way possible, I couldn't get enough of it for the next few months, there are so many emotional things I associate with it as a result now, and it helps that it's so emotional and easy to put on repeat. I don't think you could have made a wrong choice with BJSC, I love Miracles almost as much and either would have done the business. Glad you feel accomplished, because it's been a pleasure getting into them, you should

Β

I hope everyone will soon get into Empty Threat, it would have been great to lead off the album with but as it was it was a beautiful surprise lying on the album so I'm glad that happened. It's on its way to becoming my favourite from them. And yes at Holes In The Sky, I thought it would get so many more people interested, it's quite the flawless building track, maybe it lying on the soundtrack of such a bland film didn't help it. Definitely their best since Midnight City and one I would rather be putting far higher than 20th, but it's so competitive at the end.

Β

Thank you for the comment, I really appreciate you taking the time to write all that out, hurray for essay appreciation.

This whole thing was outstanding, Iz. Full to the brim with insight, attention to detail and free-flowing passion, and the only reason I hadn't commented here despite dipping in and out was laziness feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of content/needing to take it all in first! We don't really share a lot of interests as far as films/TV shows/video games/animes go (I actually spent three months in Japan a few years ago without ever indulging in a single episode of anime oops! :/) but I know where to go if I ever do check out anything you've mentioned! I really have to watch Game Of Thrones one of these days/years as it seems to get universal praise and I know I'd be hooked. :drama:

Β

(Picking random faves out of your top 237 singles + commentaries or we'll be here all day~)

Chuffed to see 'Calling Out' (as well as 'TV', yay) make your singles list and I remember you mentioning the subtle production values and little noises throughout it before, which made me take more notice of that as I was always so slain by the huge chorus.

Β

I love what you said about Brandon Flowers/'Can't Deny My Love' too. He's definitely among the 21st century's most accomplished musicians but feels quite underappreciated in his solo capacity, that track's complexities being such a testament to his skill. It's probably one of the biggest cases of a huge 2015 hit that never was, for me.

Β

Agree with all of your thoughts on 'RΔ±yzamΔ±n' too. I'd say that was the most instant thing I heard in BJSC all year. I'm pretty sure I was messaging Jordan at the time I experienced it first and he can probably confirm I completely lost my shit lol. Absolutely colossal chorus, with the whole song feeling so unique (and outrageously camp) to me too. B-)

Β

Other standouts from higher up would be 'Shut Up And Dance' and 'Lean On' (both somehow not even beginning to tire on me despite massive exposure - modern classics for sure), 'The Hardest Mistakes' (my favourite from SΓ©yetana last year), 'Delirious', 'Psycho', 'She's Kinda Hot', 'I'm A Ruin', 'Leave A Trace' and 'Downtown'. <3

Β

Congrats on finishing such an in-depth review of the year and never letting the standard slip!

Woah, thank you Noah, that's really lovely to hear such compliments for my thread. I do it because I want to get my thoughts out on all the songs so to hear things like that is the most wonderful bonus. I can totally understand waiting until the end given that

Β

Yeah I guess my entertainment tastes other than music are a bit unusual here, especially anime, I'm going full steam ahead into that medium right now, I'll probably have twice as many or more watched in 2016 at this rate. I would love to spend some time in Japan now, I think I recall you mentioning that once before, very interested as to how you found living there. Oh definitely watch Game Of Thrones when you get the time, it's kind of an essential that I think anyone can easily get into, you may just watch it like a normal person or get very obsessed like me. But it's great.

Β

Oh, I'm glad I raised that point about Calling Out then :o It's always been what's stood out to me about it, the chorus is great of course but I'm not sure I would have noticed it quite as much without those little extra bits.

Β

Brandon Flowers, I think, on his first solo album, I don't think the point was made quite enough just how talented he is, he brought it back in a phenomenal way but I don't think anyone noticed to any extent unfortunately. Can't Deny My Love is aptly, undeniable. Yeah, completely agreed.

Β

Lol at that mental image re: RΔ±yzamΔ±n. I think I had a similar reaction, it's not often a track like that comes along.

Ooh, we share similar thoughts on Shut Up And Dance. A huge part of my appreciation for the song has always been the "nerd gets the girl" theme (although not really a nerd but a slight misfit if you know what I mean), it's captured so well in the video and I relate to the guy so much too as I watch it. As far as biggest rock hit of the decade so far, you might be forgetting We Are Young but otherwise I think this has gone unmatched! The "Mr. Brightside of the 10s" comparison is more than welcome too

Oh I had forgotten We Are Young. Probably because it's never really been one of my favourites so I'd nearly forgotten of its existence. I mean, the music video is so full of joy I'd find it hard not to empathise with the guy even if this wasn't the very situation I hope to find myself in more than not.
