A Short History Of The Christmas Chart

2010. The first year of the chart, Rihanna climbs to #1 with her sexy jam 'What's My Name' to spend its first week at #1. It eventually spent 7 consecutive weeks there. At #2, a new entry from X Factor winner Matt Cardle whose 'When We Collide' would become the UK Christmas #1. Rihanna also appear elsewhere in the top 5 with 'Unfaithful', a new entry at #4 thanks to her performance of it on The X Factor with Cardle.

2011. Little Mix enter at #1 with 'Cannonball', their X Factor winners' single, to become the Christmas #1. It wouldn't be the UK Official Christmas #1, because of Gareth Malone. :rolleyes: This knocks Avicii down to #2 with 'Levels', after having spent 5 weeks ontop. Another new entry in the top 5 comes from Knife Party with 'Internet Friends'.

2012. The iconic £1 Fish Man climbs five places to claim the #1 with 'One Pound Fish'. One place down is will.i.am and Britney Spears who climb seven places with 'Scream and Shout'. The song would go on to claim three weeks at #1. At #3, a new entry for Hardwell with 'Apollo' which would peak at #2 in the new year.

2013. There is a new entry at #1 for Arty vs. Matisse & Sadko with 'RIOT'. Again Avicii has to settle for the Christmas #2, this time with 'Hey Brother' which drops down a place after four weeks at #1. It would then re-claim the #1 the following week for another 3 weeks. Unlucky. No other new entries in the top 5 but for the first time we have a Christmas classic in the top 5, 'Fairytale Of New York' at #5, dropping down 2 places.

2014. Sandy Rivera stays at #1 for a second week with 'BANG!'. It would eventually spend 7 weeks at #1, although non-consecutively, as the week after this Omi would climb to #1 with 'Cheerleader' for one week ontop. 'Cheerleader' is the #2 in this chart, and the whole top 10 looked like this:

2015. So, this year. There's not much movement at the top end this week, so the chart contenders are last week's top 3, Sigala feat. Bryn Christopher, Shaun Frank & KSHMR feat. Delaney Jane and Felix Jaehn feat. Lost Frequencies & Linying. Which order are they in though? Will Sigala claim his eighth week at #1 or can one of the others finally get to #1 this week?

So, with no charity single to ruin it all unlike the stupid UK chart ( <_< ) Sigala gets an eighth week at #1 and thus becomes this year's Christmas Number One. 'Sweet Lovin' is now one of the longest running #1s in this chart ever, with only 'Waves' and 'Waiting For Love' having more #1 weeks than it (9 and 12 weeks respectively). Felix Jaehn steps up to #2 meaning this is the 2nd year in a row he has been part of the Christmas #2. Oops, maybe next year Felix.

Shaun Frank & KSHMR fall to #3 after spending 3 consecutive weeks at #2. Tobtok climbs ten places to #4 with 'Fast Car'. Another 'Fast Car' appears at #21 as a new entry for Jonas Blue. Non-movers at #5 and #6 because yay excitement.

Three Christmas songs enter the top 10 this week, two of them for the first time. Hurts 'All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day' climbs to #7. Leona Lewis 'One More Sleep' climbs to #9. The Pogues 'Fairytale Of New York' re-enters the top 10 at #10, this marks the third year in a row the song has made the top 10.

Other Christmas songs in the chart are Wham 'Last Christmas' (34-22), and also a cover version at #25, a new entry for Cascada. As well as Mariah 'All I Want...' (36-23), Shakin Stevens 'Merry Christmas Everyone' (39-28) and Wizzard 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday' (falling 41-42).

The highest new entry comes from Zonderling, who get their second chart hit with 'Crazy For You' at #12. The song features Bishøp who previously charted with Ferreck Dawn on 'Another Day'. Not to be confused with the Bishop at #49 with 'Wild Horses'.

The next new entry that hasn't already been mentioned comes from Bolier & Redondo, their second collaboration following the #9 peaking 'Every Single Piece'. The new one enters at #29 and is titled 'Lost & Found', featuring Bitter's Kiss.

Snakehips enters the chart at #36 with 'All My Friends'. It is their second hit following 'On & On' which peaked at #41 over 2 years ago. Also new in the top 40 is Funkerman 'Foolish Game' which enters at #39. Outside the top 40 there are new entries for Shawn Mendes, Nicky Romero and Felix Jaehn.

Yay at "All My Friends" debuting! It's been playing so much on my Spotify lately, really hoping it becomes a hit in the US!

Tobtok is probably too cheap to send to BJSC, with it being a Tracey Chapman cover..

 

Hopefully All My Friends can climb quickly in the UK but it depends on if radio give up on it or not.
