Wings went Platinum and Dear Life has been certified Gold so they'd hardly done too badly. Enough's chart run is only beginning in advance of the video release.

Oh they certainly haven't done badly, but Wings was so long ago, and Sony Australia have a habit of being hesitant to release albums without a string of solid hits to back them up to make sure the album can do well. Delta obviously has a dedicated fanbase which helps.

Not sure if Enough can get higher than the mid-low 20s as it's languishing at #14 on iTunes with a discount and out of the top 200 on Spotify. I could be wrong of course.

For the first time since May 2015 (though Flume's #1 did coincide with the largely Australian "Molly" soundtrack), we have Australian #1s on both charts. With help from TV promo, a $1.19 discount and a physical release, The Veronicas get their 3rd #1 single after "Hook Me Up" (2007) and "You Ruin Me" (2014). It is kind of interesting just how the streaming ratio effects things, because while "One Dance" has been stagnant around 45% on iTunes in the UK, it's been more around 60% here, so in a sense, it's bigger here currently than in the UK, but our streaming ratio isn't high enough to keep it at #1. It could get back next week though, as the gap is shortening on iTunes, but it's too tough to call right now, especially as we have a Voice grand finale which could throw a spanner in the works. Fifth Harmony will be performing there so I guess expect to see them have a good week next. Last week Mike Posner did so "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" climbs back into the top 20. Fergie has the highest debut of the week with "M.I.L.F. $", which is her first time in the top 50 since "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)" from the Great Gatsby soundtrack in 2013. In super exciting news, "All Of Me" and "Thinking Out Loud" re-enter.

So as made quite clear upthread, Delta Goodrem's 5th album debuts at #1, her 4th to do so. Her 4th album being the one to miss out, did so with rather excellent sales, but faced a 2nd week Taylor Swift album and couldn't do much about that. blink-182 debut at #2 with is the 2nd time in a row for them. Their last album was unlucky to come against a 35th week Adele album in 2011, one of the soooo many albums to be blocked by her. Their sales are probably good, but I can't imagine the same is true of the #3 debut, an EP by a group who finished 8th in last year's X Factor. They're pretty lucky to debut that high so good for them I guess. The next highest debut is from Christine and the Queens, which of course comes from the delayed AU broadcast (even NZ got it a week before us) of her Graham Norton episode, which also sent "Tilted" into the chart. That song is getting a bit of a push lately so could potentially be in the top 50 next week. It would look like next week on the album chart, Avalanches about, business continues below..

Anyone know how much Troye Sivan album has sold in Australia ?

Probably around 40,000. It went Gold (35K) at the start of May.

Suffice to say, it was a very close week on the single's chart, much closer than last week I imagine. The Veronicas are lucky to hold onto the top spot for a second week as they had the sales advantage, while all of their opponents had greater streaming, but a countering sales disadvantage which sees them land as they do. Despite not being top 10 in either sales or streaming, Charlie Puth has luck on his side as he gets a 4th top 10 hit with "We Don't Talk Anymore". It's also Selena Gomez's 2nd after the similarly lucky "Good For You" which also peaked at #10. The Voice Grand Finale came and went to varying effect; Fifth Harmony lodge a 3rd top 20 hit with "All In My Head (Flex)", Good Charlotte also performed and their facetiously titled "Life Can't Get Much Better" narrowly misses the top 50, though it may get there next week with their album out. The actual winner of The Voice (apparently there are contestants in the show) Alfie Arcuri has his lazily released winner single "Cruel" come in at #89, making for continued diminishing returns for the show. In fact it amusingly is timed with a former Voice contestant Vera Blue (aka Celia Pavey) getting her first post-Voice top 40 hit alongside popular local rapper Illy. "Papercuts" is looking to make a huge jump on next week's chart as despite the many new releases, it has managed to lodge itself in the iTunes top 10. Of those new releases, expect Britney Spears & 5 Seconds Of Summer to have top 40 debuts next week, and maybe Katy Perry can get in the top 5. "Rise" may well be the sales #1 as it's still #1 and made an impressive lead on Friday. I actually wouldn't count it out for #1, for which I feel is most likely going to "This Is What You Came For", as #TaylorGate has revived it on sales and streaming.

We've all heard it over and over again, back in 2000, The Avalanches released a seminal debut in "Since I Left You", a commercial and critical success that continues to be lauded to this day, and then nothing else. I can remember back to at least around 2009 that the status of the follow up album had become a punchline (perhaps as "Chinese Democracy" had been and gone). It's not as if they were silent on it either, as there were numerous updates from various camps on the matter, just nothing to materialise. But last month we got a lead single and now we have the whole album and what is perhaps the most hyped and anticipated Australian album of all time debuts at #1. Their debut "Since I Left You" is certified platinum but only actually reached #21 on the charts due to its slow-burning popularity. It actually nearly reached a new peak this week as it returns to the top 50 at #25. It means this week's top 2 is particularly Wild. There's not much else going on this week. ScHoolboy Q's new album reaches a new height for him of #9, as "Oxymoron" peaked at the unlucky #11. Biffy Clyro also reach a new height of #15 with what is only their 2nd album to crack the top 50 here. Next week feels even more stark for major releases, so The Avalanches might be able to hold #1, but they may have competition from Good Charlotte and former Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett.

The actual winner of The Voice (apparently there are contestants in the show) Alfie Arcuri has his lazily released winner single "Cruel" come in at #89, making for continued diminishing returns for the show.

I only watched the finale of The Voice and I liked Alfie. The song, however, was very underwhelming. It sounded incomplete. Not surprised by his low chart placing as he declined on iTunes throughout the week and didn't make an impact on Spotify (18k streams as of now!!! :o :o ). Plus, the finale rated much lower than last year. I do give credit to The Voice (and X Factor) for having an original song for the winner rather than a cover. I'll take lazy original song over a lazy cover any day.

^ Yeah, I feel a bit sorry for him because it doesn't really seem like he got much of a chance. The thing that tipped me off is the way there was no effort even in the artwork/release of the song. At a glance you'd think it was just another quick recording from the show.

http://i.imgur.com/pwoyvEj.png

Yeah. It seems like Universal Music and/or EndemolShine weren't really invested this season. They should have at least tried with the artwork or even attempt to make a video.

I just hope this year's X Factor winner won't suffer the same fate, given the massive budget cuts (especially in live shows) this season. Then again, Sony takes their chart battles really seriously, so I wouldn't worry too much.

You've seen close weeks on the chart? This week is possibly unmatched in that regard, as from what I understand, the #1 single AND album this week were decided by margins of about 1%. In both cases it's a debut beating out the more popular incumbant on a sales dip, and in both cases it could mean a huge drop from #1 next week. Nonetheless, whenever Katy Perry kicks off a new era here, she gets a #1 single within a few weeks and then not again. Because of "Roar"'s midweek release, "Rise" is her first to debut at #1, and because of the nonsense with "Dark Horse", is actually her first top 10 hit since "Roar" :kink: This is all despite no Spotify streams, but possibly because of Australia's low streaming ratio. If we had a 1:100 ratio like the UK, "Rise" might be #5 this week. But having thus far dipped to #6 on iTunes and not gaining any traction now on Spotify, it's possible that "Rise" won't be in the top 10 next week, only the 4th time a #1 has made a drop out of the top 10. Certainly we'll have a new #1 next week and it'll probably come from Major Lazer and co., who have oddly seen that their instant success isn't enough and have even discounted "Cold Water" on release, so it's easily outselling all the competition. If that song weren't there, then we might have instead seen Illy at #1 as "Papercuts" briefly hit the top spot on iTunes on Friday. As it stands, this week it's his first top 10 single. In much slower climbing, Little Mix hit the top 10 with "Hair" in its 15th week, thus taking exactly as long as "Secret Love Song" did to peak. Elsewhere, Snakehips get a 2nd top 50, Britney extends her top 50 tenure by another year, and Australia continues to get behind bafflingly awful Macklemore songs.

The album chart is probably more egregious than the singles chart. Never mind random Olympics themes, in 2016 Good Charlotte are tolerated enough to have a #1 album. It's not their first time though, as they debuted at #1 back in 2004, and of course in 2014 we had the Maddens branding together to score a #1 single and album. They continue to be judges on The Voice and as per that, did the obligatory plug for their new music on The Voice finale 2 weeks back. It is certainly a success as they would not have hit #1 otherwise. Closely debuting behind them at #3 is Peter Garrett who found fame as the lead singer of Midnight Oil in the '80s, became the environmental minister of Australia in the '00s (because only in Australia) and has recently retired from that and un-retired from music. We also have some local debuts for the 2nd albums of Emma Louise & Stonefield, the former 2 places lower than last time, and the latter 2 places higher than last time. Next week is a call to watch out for disastrous #1 sales with not much in the way of debuts. We could see Flume back at #1 off the back of an iTunes discount and highly touted Splendour In The Grass performance tonight, but then maybe Human Nature could as well given their habit of still selling loads of albums.

Hi do you know how many streams per sale in Australia?

You may want to reconsidert.. Katy Perry is down to #12 this week oops.

No prizes for guessing what #1 this week is...

There is indeed no shock this week as Major Lazer and co. debut at #1 with the biggest sales week in months. Australia was one of the handful of countries that rightly made "Lean On" a #1, so it's Major Lazer & MØ's 2nd #1, and Justin Bieber's 3rd #1 after "What Do You Mean?" & "Love Yourself". If not for the release of "Cold Water", we'd have seen a new #1 instead from Illy whose "Papercuts" moves up to #2, making it the highest ever charting single by an Australian solo rapper, though we did once have a beatboxer at #1 way back in 2004. Sadly discount tactics fail this week as "Into You" can only return to #11 this week despite being top 10 on iTunes & Spotify for most of the week. Instead Anne-Marie is in the top 10 for the first time. Last week's #1 "Rise" only drops to #4 on digital sales, but its lagging streams mean it's down to #12 overall. This is the equal 3rd biggest drop from #1 ever, behind Celine Dion's deleted "My Heart Will Go On" and Voice winner Karise Eden's partially screwed over by Complete My Album effect but also very shortlived popularity with her performance of "Stay With Me Baby". Katy is on level footing with Reece Mastin's "Shout It Out" which did not have the excuse of those other 2, just that it dropped quick because it's awful and never should have been #1.

Katy can have some solace though as she doesn't even have the biggest drop from #1 this week. Naturally as Good Charlotte fluked it last week, this week they're tumbling down to #17. No doubt with healthier sales, #1 this week goes to Human Nature, which is their 4th album to do so. UK readers perhaps know them best for their song "He Don't Love You", but let it be clear that it is an anomaly from them trying to break the international market, they're typically much more in the vein of Westlife or Boyzone. Big impact this week is the Splendour In The Grass festival, perhaps nowadays about the biggest festival in the country. Big dividends from that this week are headliners Flume and The Cure, as well as Jack Garratt, Gang Of Youths, DMA's & Matt Corby. Metal act Periphery have made the top 50 4 times in the past few years, but this week pick up their first top 10. Next week Human Nature might be able to hold onto #1, with threats coming from DJ Khaled, Hellions & possibly Gang of Youths though I'm not 100% sure which chart their 6 track EP winds up on.

Unsurprisingly, Major Lazer are #1 for another week, which means that "Cold Water" outlasts "Lean On's 1 week at #1. There was a challenger by way of The Chainsmokers who took #1 on iTunes midway through the week, but obviously they were no match for Major Lazer's streaming force. Nonetheless, going in straight at #2 means it's The Chainsmokers' highest charting single ever, and it also means that Halsey joins Jarryd James & Wendy Matthews for having peaked at #2 on the singles & albums chart, let's keep it that way thanks. In an odd surprise, Usher gets his first top 10 single in 5 years with "Crash", which just narrowly fends off Jonas Blue who will probably be in there next week, and Ariana Grande who sadly is not getting a top 10 hit with this album. Suicide Squad starts to hit fever pitch here as twenty one pilots will likely have their 2nd top 10 hit in "Heathens" next week. For the time being it overtakes "Ride". Presumably because it has P!nk's name on it, Kenny Chesney has his first singles chart entry ever in his long career this week.

The album chart sees Human Nature maintain their hold at #1 but they had a close fight with another local act in Gang Of Youths. Their debut album peaked at #5 last year and this week they enter at #2 with a supplementary EP (though a rather lengthy one). It's the 2nd highest an EP has ever reached on the album charts as Troye Sivan's "WILD" is the only one to ever hit #1. On the heavier side of things, Hellions have their highest chart position to date with their 4th album debuting at #4. This lands them just ahead of The Voice winner Alfie Arcuri, who can take solace as he's peaked higher than the last 2 seasons' winners. Living meme DJ Khaled also has his highest ever chart peak this week at #6. Next week, Powderfinger's Bernard Fanning will be looking for his 3rd solo #1 album, though will face a challenge from the Suicide Squad soundtrack which is selling best on iTunes currently.

I'm pretty sad that Into You has not entered Top 10 yet. She had plenty of streaming power on her My Everything era. Her streaming numbers are still impressive for Dangerous Woman singles but only reaching #11 is still baffling to me. At least the single reached platinum threshold. Surprising that The Veronicas fell so much this week as I thought it would have some longevity. Happy for Jonas and the big jump for Perfect Strangers. Rihanna's needed me went Gold and the peak is #48 so far. Alfie debuted well by reaching Top 5 in albums, considering the ratings decline for The Voice and the disastrous chart performance of his coronation song.

The state of album sales looks very sad as it only takes 4250+ sales for it to be #1. #10 album did 1160+ this week. The singles unit/point numbers looks good, I think.

Into You has been REALLY unlucky it seems. I think it's missed the top 10 by about a hundred sales on 3 separate occasions, and it's reached top 10 on sales & streaming at some point. Could be worse of course, just look at LunchMoney Lewis's #11 run last year which happened in a weirdly potent time for top 10 debuts :P

Also since you mentioned Needed Me, I found it interesting that Kanye West's "Famous" was just certified gold this week as well, with only 6 weeks on the chart. Terrific news because it means that they've counted all of its streams from back when it wasn't on the chart (when it was only on Spotify). Controlla should be looking at a low peaking gold certification soon too. Light It Up potentially platinum too, with 80-90% of it from streams and a #54 peak
