'Found Your Love' was one of our more groovy entries but that couldn't give us a hit sadly.

'Deadline' was another of our throwback trance entries, one of the most outstanding trance tracks of its era for me.

'Stay' was a great progressive house track with an amazing vocal which helped give Danæviia our first top 5 position, but despite that surprisingly it doesn't rank top 40 here.

'In My Head' was one of our more pop friendly entries of the time but it failed to impress that many people as it almost finished last in the final, I'd also have it a fair bit lower down if I wasn't using chart sales.

'Siren' followed 'Feel the Love' to become our third top 15 hit and it still sounds good with its electro synths and great contrast between its verses and drop. It has to just miss out on top 40 but the quality is too good for all my great entries to finish there. :P

40-31 hints:

- three entries from this year

- a Spanish language track

- at least one surprise DNQ

- an instrumental hit

'(Don't Go) Running' was a great house track that would've suited R1 Dance Anthems a lot, I found it after they came on my radar with their 'Unfinished Sympathy' cover but they seemingly vanished after this song.

'Running For Peace' was an uplifting trance track we sent early this year, it's outstanding for its genre with an excellent vocal.

'Sunrise (Won't Get Lost)' was a big Beatport hit at the time which I thought would've likewise smashed in BJSC but it became a surprise DNQ instead. It's one of the great progressive house tracks of the time still anyhow.

'Rescue Me' was Danæviia's first entry of the year, a great melodic hardstyle track we found just in time and still my favourite song of that description of the year.

'Eurodancer' was the follow up to Danæviia's first winning entry and to our surprise also went in the top ten. Although when it comes to high BPM eurodance it doesn't get any better than this. Like 'Deadline' I found it a good few years earlier so the chart peak is very misleading, although Alan Walker and friends recently took their version of it to #4.

'Sunrise (Won't Get Lost)' still probably your most unjust DNQ. </3

How did 'Eurodancer' get so many 'Danævii sales' while peaking so low on your chart? Was it just in your chart for ages but low down?

oh to be more clear

chart sales = playcount + personal chart points

Eurodancer’s sales total is mostly from playcount (and from when i first discovered it years before the contest and I made it chart ineligible then)

BJSC 118 [2019]

Contest Position: 27th

Danævii Sales: 941,700

Danævii Chart Peak: #2

'The City Don't Care' was our second synthpop entry and still our most recent of those. It's a rather interesting song with great retro inspired production from Oliver.

'Boneless' was our 2nd favourite entry of 2013 but despite that it like our 3rd favourite 'Sunrise' was a DNQ. It's a great big room/bounce track which was a big club hit.

'Tu Conmigo' was our sole DNQ of 2017 during the peak era of South Danaelanda put in-between runs of 10 and 11 qualifiers. It's a great quirky entry that deserved a lot better.

'Climbin' was our biggest hit at the time nearly making the top ten and also a big Danævii #1 managing to dethrone Avicii. It's got piano chords and diva vocals so ticks the boxes for a great house track.

'Ven Pa Ca' was a recent entry for Danæviia but had been in my chart for a good few months before I sent it too. It's the perfect mix between banging house and Latin pop and is one of my top faves of the year.

26. Fatum – Mowgli

BJSC 107 [2018]

Contest Position: 27th

Danævii Sales: 1,098,100

Danævii Chart Peak: #1 (x2)

'It's My Man' was another of our diva house entries and an underrated one at that too having missed the contest's top 20.

'Dear Boy' was entered as our 50th anniversary entry where the veto for Avicii was lifted for one contest only. You may be surprised that it's only 29th here but most of my absolute faves of Avicii's would've been too cheap to send.

'Horizon' was a big room trance entry that provided Danæviia with our first top 10 hit of 2018, the other of those 'Black Church' is still to come.

'Monody' was one of our most successful entries becoming our first top three hit and from then on TheFatRat continued to be one a big Danævii artist having now three #1s. I still prefer the other entry of his I sent though and that is still to come.

'Mowgli' was an instrumental progressive trance track we sent following a run of three hits and unfortunately it fell a bit short though I wasn't expecting it to do that much anyway.

Before we reach the top 25 here's a quick recap and look at what is to come

'Mirror Me' was one of our most unique entries of 2016, a rare dark dance track from us.

'Unbreakable' was a great uplifting trance track, our first entry of 2017 and one of our most overlooked of that year too.

'Gregory's Theme' was a house track I found on Dance Anthems in 2011 and brought back in 2016 as I had nothing new worth sending and surprisingly it was one of my biggest hits.

'In Motion' was a vocal house track I sent a few months back and one of my faves of this year.

'Aber' was one of our most overlooked entries ever, a wonderful instrumental track.

Yolanda Be Cool being this high *_*

'Gregory's Theme' also agree that 'Aber' was overlooked, much better than the Tobtok song that just went top 10...

'JAMMU' was an Indian inspired big room track which unexpectedly became my 3rd top 10 hit in the contest, and as my third favourite entry of 2015 very deservingly so. It also began KSHMR's long run of BJSC hits including a winner for Aeroche.

'On My Way' was a folk house track very much in the style of Avicii which outdid my actual Avicii entry in the contest and also in this rundown.

'Apollo' was my first big room entry, entered at a time just before Hardwell rose to #1 in the DJ Mag poll. It is also my favourite entry of 2013.

'Black Church' was the second of our two drum n bass entries and the more successful one making its way into the top five just months before Dimension got a UK top 100 hit with Sub Focus.

'BANG!' was one of my deep house entries, my first entry of 2015 having topped the Danævii chart over the Christmas period and got me the 2nd of what was to be 5 consecutive top 20 hits.

and yes Yolanda Be Cool is still to come! it could it be the highest DNQ here, the only other in contention is from Denis Kenzo.

'Afronuts' was a track I'd discovered in 2011 and in a dry month finally decided to send but unfortunately it massively backfired being our worst ever performing entry, ending our streak of 11 qualifiers and also ending the peak South Danaelanda era of our country.

'Make Your Move' was a great deep house reworking of 'Dare Me', my personal favourite entry of 2016 but sadly another Flop nearly finishing last.

'Saving Light' was our most successful entry ever becoming our first winner, a real beauty of a trance song with outstanding production and stunning vocals, I'm surprised it's not top 10 actually it really should be. Gareth Emery now is of course one of Danæviia's most successful artists, being the 2nd biggest selling of 2019 behind only Avicii.

'Free' which comes under the NCS style of electro house and is one of the absolute best songs of that description was one of our biggest underperformance of 2018, but if this section tells you anything it's that I do stand by many of my flops, this one's a proper tune.

'Up Till Dawn' was yet another flop for Lucas & Steve, it's a brilliant commercial house tune though helped a lot by its sample of one of my fave trance songs of the 00s 'On The Move'.

* would've charted higher (possibly even #1) if I allowed it to chart when I first discovered it, I had a rule disallowing non chart/R1 songs at the time

which leaves the Top 10 as:

  • Denis Kenzo and Kate Miles – Guide
  • DJ Licious – I Hear You Calling
  • Ferreck Dawn & Redondo – Love Too Deep
  • Nora En Pure – Trailblazer
  • Oliver Heldens – Gecko
  • Oliver Moldan – High & Low (feat. Jasmine Ash)
  • Pep & Rash – Rumors
  • Sonny Fodera – Always Gonna Be (feat. Alex Mills)
  • Super8 & Tab – Burn (feat. Hero Baldwin)
  • TheFatRat – The Calling (feat. Laura Brehm)

2015: 01

2017: 03

BJSC 120: CloudNone & Laura Brehm - Changed

As we head towards the end of the decade we welcome back the vocalist behind one of our biggest hits. Laura Brehm featured on TheFatRat's 'Monody' which finished 3rd, as well as 'The Calling' which featured in the 100th edition and finished 15th. TheFatRat himself would be a bit too cheap of a recycle however so she now teams up with CloudNone, a mysterious male electronic/garage producer signed to Monstercat. He came up with the name during a period of depression when as he describes he was feeling the opposite of "cloud nine". "Changed" is an absolute beauty of a song, which also instantly topped the Danævii chart, now set for its 4th week at #1. I didn't want to do yet another recycle but this song was way too good to pass up, and a bit different for Danæviia too. Hope you enjoy, and if you do then don't forget to give us some points if you're in semi 1.

BJSC 100 [2017]

Contest Position: 15th

Danævii Sales: 1,750,000

Danævii Chart Peak: #2

'Trailblazer' was a deep house track I sent by one of my fave producers Nora En Pure, a pleasantly surprising top 20 finish came for this but it starts the top 10 in this countdown.

'Guide' was a progressive trance track I had as a potential for a good few months before eventually becoming my favourite entry sent this year but unfortunately one of two (so far?) DNQs of the year.

'Love Too Deep' was another of my deep house entries, the 2nd highest here, with a cheeky sample of 'Show Me Love' in the production it very quickly became a big fave of mine for the year 2014.

'I Hear You Calling' was a diva vocal house track and my fave entry of that description I've sent, also becoming one of my top 10s in BJSC, my 3rd of 2017.

'The Calling' was my 2nd TheFatRat/Laura Brehm collab entry sent specially for the 100th edition and whilst it didn't do as well as 'Monody' it also had a lot more competition and was definitely my favourite of the two.

which leaves the Top 5 as:

  • Oliver Heldens – Gecko
  • Oliver Moldan – High & Low (feat. Jasmine Ash)
  • Pep & Rash – Rumors
  • Sonny Fodera – Always Gonna Be (feat. Alex Mills)

05. Pep & Rash – Rumors

BJSC 72 [2015]

Contest Position: 6th

Danævii Sales: 1,753,400

Danævii Chart Peak: #1 (x3)

'Rumors' was one of our future house entries and even this many years later still one of our absolute best, also becoming the first Danaelanda entry to reach the top 10 after many years of missing out - and it is the highest of our top 10s in this list. It was the breakthrough hit of Pep & Rash which also eventually became a minor UK chart hit.

04. Sonny Fodera – Always Gonna Be (feat. Alex Mills)

BJSC 106 [2018]

Contest Position: 13th

Danævii Sales: 2,087,300

Danævii Chart Peak: #5

'Always Gonna Be' was our introduction to deep house DJ Sonny Fodera, which we discovered in 2017 but sent later into the following year as I wasn't sure how it'd do. It did well however finishing in the top 15 and it is without a doubt the best deep house entry we have or will ever send.

03. Oliver Moldan – High & Low (feat. Jasmine Ash)

BJSC 94 [2017]

Contest Position: 18th

Danævii Sales: 2,254,100

Danævii Chart Peak: #2 (x3)

'High & Low' was our top entry of 2017 and also finished in 2nd in my personal EOY that year behind Jax Jones. It still however is the only song of note either artist has done but what a song to have a Danævii one hit wonder with. It managed a top 20 position following our win two contests prior and subsequent autoqualifer.

02. Super8 & Tab – Burn (feat. Hero Baldwin)

BJSC 109 [2018]

Contest Position: 21st

Danævii Sales: 2,340,500

Danævii Chart Peak: #1 (x3)

'Burn' was our penultimate entry of 2018 and also our favourite of the year, continuing to rack up the plays well into 2019. It is progressive vocal trance at its absolute best and really deserved a lot better than 21st!

01. Oliver Heldens – Gecko

Contest Position: 26th

Danævii Sales: 2,351,000

It was close but ultimately our favourite entry ever couldn't be anything else but 'Gecko' (and yes this combines the original and Becky Hill's vocal mix, otherwise 'Burn' would be #1). The track was released at the tail end of 2013 and we kept it as a potential for a few months, fortunately not for too long so it was able to be sent still a few months before the release of the vocal edit and UK push. It was the song that introduced much of the world to future house and it is still the best song of its genre with Oliver Heldens still going strong as a producer now. It finished in the bottom five of its contest which was definitely the biggest injustices in Danævii BJSC history but it makes up for it in this countdown.

Which Danævii entry is your favourite? What would you like to hear more of from Danæviia in 2020?

My two faves from that top 20 went out in #18 and #20 and I oop. Can't really argue with 'Gecko' at #1 though (and I still prefer the instrumental to the Becky Hill version) and Ferreck Dawn and Nora En Pure top 10 ~ Oliver Moldan is way too high tho. xx

thanks guys. I'd rate the original and vocal mixes of 'Gecko' about the same, both are truly outstanding.

in other news, we have secured our 8th qualifier of the year with 'Changed'! :cheer: let's also make it our 5th Top 20 hit of the year, we did it in the last 2 years* and we can do it again!

*although 2017 actually had six top 20s!

'Changed' brings us back into the top 10 although we were very lucky to get there as we were tied for points with the entry in 11th place. In any case our main goal has been achieved as it gives us a 50% hit rate for the year. It is our 3rd top 10 of the year following our winning entry 'Emerald Princess' as well as 'Mystery Land' which also finished in 10th. It is also our 13th top 10 hit overall, as well as our 3rd entry to finish in 10th (KSHMR's 'Jammu' was our first back in BJSC 77). For Laura Brehm, it is her 2nd top 10 following the third-placed 'Monody' ('The Calling' which we also sent from her finished in 15th).

Here's a recap of our 2019 entries, some of which may get a second chance to perform in the year's 'Best Of' contest.

Second chance to RIOT

We have been drawn in Heat One of the qualifying round where we'll be competing with the best of the rest of this year's DNQs with our best-performing DNQ (by just 4 points!), the crossover event of the year with RIOT merging dubstep, drum n' bass and metal into one song. Make sure to send us a few points even if you're not in our heat if you remember enjoying this and thought it deserved a place in the final!

With Commiserations to Denis Kenzo & Kate Miles, whose 'Guide' ranked at 9th in my personal countdown of my entries, well above 'Overkill' which was 72nd (although it'll likely climb a few places from the EOY season). A truly baffling DNQ and our personal favourite DNQ of ours ever.

As we look toward the future we're also pleased to announce that 'Emerald Princess' will auto-qualify to the final alongside the rest of this year's winners.

BJSC 121: Moko - Your Love

London-based songstress MOKO has three things that all contribute to her sheer awesomeness. The first is of course her wonderful voice.

With an R’N’B aura and a range that is just endless, we know this girl can sing and she can sing well. MOKO‘s dancing takes control in her latest music video and in these circumstances, where videos have no real narrative behind then, dancing is sometimes the only way to express the emotion underneath it all.

The new clip accompanies MOKO‘s track ‘Your Love’ which features her vocals at their strongest. Floating above house synths and a strong beat, MOKO‘s vocals melt across the soundscape and create a smooth atmosphere that has a strong R’n’B influence. In the early 2000’s UK-garage was the dominant genre and if you grew up around that time, you’ll be able to hear it easily in this offering.

The video is quite simple and lets you focus on the music whilst also being able to see what makes MOKO such a unique performer. The video is set in an abandoned warehouse with very dim, green lighting. MOKO dances in the large warehouse with the sassiness every R’n’B girl needs whilst also singing her lovely track and making the simple seem delicate and visually appealing.

To start the new decade we take a trip back to 2014 with Moko's debut solo single 'Your Love', which was produced by Chase & Status. It came shortly after she featured on their hit single 'Count On Me'. The song spent 5 weeks at #1 on Thermo's hot hits but we passed it up as a BJSC entry at the time. How will it do all these years later though? Don't forget to send some points our way if you're in Semi 1.
