2014 has another leftover leave here with All About That Bass' closing fortnight on the chart landing her here, with a combined score of -315 points, I like the song as I said last year, although I know it has it's flaws mainly because I like this genre of music. The ethics behind the song have already been discussed, my opinion is one of unintentional sizism.

Oh, I liked this one. There's not much to say about it, it has a great production, great chorus and decent bars from the rappers. Perhaps it is a bit too long but as far as mainstream (and I do stress "mainstream") hip hop that landed on the charts this one was definitely in the top tier.
In2 has become the definition of boring. It goes nowhere.

In2 doesn't need to "go anywhere" when it's perfect for what it is. Loved seeing it rise from an underground summer anthem to a huge chart hit and probably my favourite song of last year to be honest.

Ayo and Freak Of The Week predictably low which is a shame. I get why people hate the misogynistic lyrics but I've seen tons of girls who love these songs. Like me, I suspect the beat and the catchiness and general feel override the lyrical content. Music can be escapist too!

I Don't Like It, I Love It had one of the catchiest chorus and production combinations of the year no doubt, I couldn't stop singing it!

I get Secondcity tees from this one, it's the fairly big number one that the general public are just going to forget it completely in a year or two max. One of the biggest critiques thrown at dance music in general is that it is repetitive and reductive which this epitomizes, it's not horrendous by any means, but dull.

Flo Rida's other hit song of the year falls out now. You can say what you want about Flo Rida but he knows how to jump on music trends, in this case popularised by Mr. Derulo in "Talk Dirty", the sax break in this song is too similar not to notice, but he's not the only one to do that this year, see the still to feature Fifth Harmony. This is another sex one by the way but I find this one funny, the lyrics are just too daft to take seriously.

Starting out with the positives, the productions is great and earwormy, and Nicki sounds better here than I've heard her in a long time. The lyrics however... Oh dear. Extremely regressive towards women (yes I get that Nicki a woman wrote it, but women can still right outdated gender roles, look at Meghan Trainor) and also mixing sexual and parental metaphors has always been icky to me. No matter what context.
Getting through these quicker than usual today, but that'll do until tomorrow.

The current OCC#1, and the first of Justin's trio of mega-hits of 2015, Love Yourself is my favourite. It is in essence a Ed Sheeran band with his usual take on a 'diss song' and Justin's vocals echo Ed's a lot in the song, not that that's a bad thing. I do like being able to hear his vocals without heavy production once in a while.

Ah, the-tricky-to-comment-on-without-sounding-douchey chartiy single, my rating of this song stands aside from the reason behind it which is obviously something I support. The song itself a choir medley of Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water", one of my favourite songs of all time, and "Fix You" by Coldplay, another great song is pedestrian and loses any steam it had going for me when "Fix You" starts as it's quite hard to f*** up BOTW as it's a fantastic ballad which can stretch to many genres, while Fix You works because it's intimate and emotional so loses meaning in a choir version.

Although I quite like "Hold Back The River" this is just the worse, it's extremely dull you can't make out what it's saying, and I'm struggling to think of ways just to get across how dull it is, just like I struggled to make it to the end of the song when listening today to write up this segment.

I quite like Let It Go.

A Bridge Over You is the most horrific murder of two classics I have ever witnessed.

Chris Brown again this time with producer Deorro, this song feels more suited to 2010/2011 than to 2015, it's that auto-tune club banger which brings nothing new, exciting or memorable to the table.
Are You With Me, Hey Mama, Love Yourself & Five More Hours all great! Glad some of the recent others have gone though too.

Drake despite being a large cultural force, has only got four UK Top 10s so far, and this is his first not to make a positive score. I still like this song, yes the lyrics make Drake to be a bit of a jerk, but I love the hook so much and it's one of my favourite songs from him.

Probably going to down as one of the most infamous of the X Factor winner's singles, it that it was floppier than a floppy disk. Still not the worst one that's been done, but yeah I think the public are getting bored with bland winner's songs. It's like when Girls Aloud did "Sound Of The Underground" everyone went that's amazing and gone down really well, now let's never do that again.

Five More Hours is a great song, really good by Chris Browns standards, deserves to be higher.

and strange 2 see the NHS Choir higher than some songs that're more liked on the forum but I guess thats because it got sympathy +'s and it only had 1 week of charting

I find this really odd that it became a hit not that I don't like it, just I'm not sure what radio sees in it, the song lets you know that dancing on a pole don't make you a ho (which is sweet, and I'll remember that next time I do it), but as an ode to strippers it's sweet I guess and it comes across more enlightened than some of his peers.
