Posted January 3, 20169 yr New Cold War thriller started tonight on ch4, seemed a decent show after episode 1! Edited August 16, 20186 yr by Steve201
January 3, 20169 yr Some great 80s music in it too! The bad news is that it emphasised how much further i have to go in learning German.
January 4, 20169 yr Author Yeh, I really liked episode 1 and the music and culture back then was great. It was funny when he just stood in the supermarket looking at the varieties of fruit they had lol. Then when he kept hearing the same song he was like...'they play this all the time'. Looking forward to episode 2. Although surely when they see West Germany they would realise their system is flawed??
January 9, 20169 yr Just watched the 2nd episode and can't wait to watch the 3rd one. Second time I see Jonas Nay playing a East German guy and he really does that well.
January 11, 20169 yr Author Same here looking forward to the third. Bit of a useless spy but it lends for a exciting plot lol
January 11, 20169 yr His training seems to have left certain areas untouched. Still, that made for some entertainment when he ordered his steak.
January 12, 20169 yr Author Ha yeh, I'd bet he finds a girl in the west and learns to prefer life there.
January 12, 20169 yr I watched all episodes and I'm not gonna spoiler but it's getting better every episode. I love the musical soundtrack, Major Tom is one of my favorite 80s songs.
January 31, 20169 yr This continues to get better by the episode. Only three left now. I'll miss it when it's finished :(
February 3, 20169 yr Author Same here, just watched this weeks last night. Phil Collins is the best finale track so far. I love how the commies were enjoying their Woschester Sauce at the end whereas nobody else in the East would have had it, very Animal Farmesque!!
February 8, 20169 yr The last two episodes are being shown together, so there's just one more week left now.
February 8, 20169 yr Author Yeh they said its feature length - loving it!! I'm intrigued to see how Annett fits into things, absolute stunner she is too by the way. Funny how the intelligence guys in the east have an interest in keeping the confrontation going - maybe he's meant to be a Putin style character lol.
February 9, 20169 yr I think the point is that both sides wanted to keep the conflict going. In the west, it could be used to justify huge amounts of spending on weapons that would never be used. In the east, it helped to keep their people paranoid as a way of justifying their repressive form of government. On both sides, it helped keep the intelligence services in a job.
February 16, 20169 yr Author Just watched Sunday's series finale - it was nearly two hours long - but it was absolutely fantastic - is there plans for another series?
February 16, 20169 yr Just watched Sunday's series finale - it was nearly two hours long - but it was absolutely fantastic - is there plans for another series? Apparently not. It would be rather difficult to pick up the story from there. Deutschland 89 with Martin witnessing the fall of the Wall would make an interesting series though.
February 16, 20169 yr Author Indeed it would and it would make sense too to see the effects on the characters. Loved how his aunt was moving to Mozambique lol. Post 1983 the Cold War Dec did begin to thaw! Anyway fantastic watch - Tobias was set my fav character.
May 22, 20169 yr These are my favourite TV series about cold war. The sountracks are awesome. 80s !
August 16, 20186 yr Author Great news, this is returning to German Tv this October as Deutschland 86!! Can't wait!!
