without further ado, here's my top 50 albums.

 

10th place is occupied by my recent discovery, fka twigs' producer, arca. hard to comprehend at first but when it gets under your skin, it stays there. kendrick definitely wowed the world, myself included, with this release. rich sounds, clever lyrics and just incredibly easy to listen to, despite the controversial topics. beach house continue slaying the music world. this year was never going to be an exception. they had two releases in this one year and while one only reached 46th place here, which doesn't mean it wasn't good at all, the other one, despression cherry, managed to get another top 10 eoy record to their name. rich dark lp, definitely fitting the cover, and vice versa, it transfers you to another dimension and you cannot get out until you've listened to the entire thing. this was hands down the go-to album of 2015. i couldn't wait until marina releases her new album. those months until the release on april 1st, at the time of the lp announcement felt like decades. but i persevered. mostly because it leaked pretty early on. it was different to the first two albums. but i don't like comparing different eras of the same artist so let's just say she went back to basics. this is an easy record with easy catchy melodies, deep lyrics and marina's neverending charm that just oozes through headphones. iamamiwhoami's blue is also in this despite topping the last eoy chart. the concert in blue and my 2306 returns to the album throughout the year definitely helped. the album is literally the most perfect recent album through and through. no words, just emotions. florence definitely didn't wow me at the start of this era but after the album dropped, everything changed completely. queen of peace blew me away momentarily, after which a few songs grew on me a lot. it really was enough. when you realise that most of the bonus tracks are just as strong as the album tracks, you know it's the album worth being in your eoy top 5. the next album also was an example of the old saying which goes something like 'the slower you go the farther you get' or whatever. i just meant it wasn't so instantly amazing upon first listen. hell, memorial significantly grew on me just in december! i am of course talking about susanne sundfør and her latest output. if you usually love scandi indie pop female releases, this will blow you away. production values on this thing are out of this world. the entire f***ing atmosphere is magical. if not for the last three songs, which are significantly weakers than the rest of the album, it'd be in contention for my top 3. let's move on to the woman that is going to change the entire music industry. fka twigs places top 3 second year in a row. this audiovisual ep is one of the smartest, most interesting and powerful musical creations of the year. arca's affluent production enhances tahliah's lyrics, all of which together makes this her version of feminism. accompanied by the abundantly expressive and strong videos, each track becomes inescapable. using her position of being in the public eye, she makes it all count. it's getting harder not to know who fka twigs is. even the most ignorant and mainstream listeners will have to surrender to her powers soon unless they have done that already. runner up of this year is former number one of 2010, joanna newsom. i cannot remember the last time i was this hyped for the album release. (yammy doesn't count as their release strategy is different). googling 'joanna newsom divers leak' 5 times a day was all worth it. the lp felt like a breeze. it was so easy and complicated at the same time, which sounds insane but there's no other phrase to describe it more fully. there are thousands of layers each of which you discover upon each listen. one of my proudest moments of the year was introducing joanna's music to my friend. he literally had sapokanikan on loop for hours one night. i actually do matter after all :') and finally here we are. number one is former number two of 2012 (who could ever stop iamamiwhoami that year really lol), grimes. the aborementioned friend is also a big fan of grimes but he didn't like art angels at all. which is crazy. he thought it was too poppy and not even in an ironic sense. he's clearly wrong. if she does pop then pop is in and kewl at the moment. full stop. this album still continues to slay all my holes, but especially the holes where my ears are usually placed (they sometimes take a vacation if ellie goulding comes on). with the exception of one dull (title) track, this is one hell of an album! every single track has its thing and particular moment which i so strongly require in every song i listen to regularly. she doesn't ever feel afraid to go all berserk (kill v. maim), come across as a mellow beige bitch (pin) or a man-hating die-hard feminist (kill v maim, venus fly). who cares, i'm a f***ing trendsetter, she says. yes, you fucking are! *.*

 

Art Angels *.* the essential pop album of the year, and no bad songs on there for me

 

Hurrah for SOPHIE too. now really willing the pc music crew to come back all guns blazing in 2016 (a Hannah Diamond full-length may be a good start~)
