Posted January 5, 20169 yr Yep, it's that time of year again - normally where I begin a thread to never complete it  (my poor top 200 of the decade so far). This is based purely on points from my chart so it's not a completely accurate reflection of my favourite songs of the year - I sometimes amaze myself when I look back at what position some songs charted... We'll start with a bit of nostalgia. This is how last year's Top 10 looked: 1. KATY PERRY feat. JUICY J - Dark Horse 2. KIESZA - Hideaway 3. ELLA HENDERSON - Ghost 4. CHARLI XCX - Boom Clap 5. ARIANA GRANDE feat. IGGY AZALEA - Problem 6. RITA ORA - I Will Never Let You Down 7. SIA - Chandelier 8. TAYLOR SWIFT - Shake It Off 9. CHARLI XCX - Break The Rules 10. CLEAN BANDIT feat. JESS GLYNNE - Rather Be Yeesh. Not a male vocal in sight. Will the boys have better luck this year? Edited March 8, 20169 yr by Rogue
January 5, 20169 yr Author 100. JOE STONE feat. MONTELL JORDAN - The Party (This Is How We Do) [uK Peak - 17] [My Peak - 4] MSYvsJA-Ua4 99. NICK JONAS - Jealous [uK Peak - 2] [My Peak - 2] yw04QD1LaB0 98. MAROON 5 - This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like... [uK Peak - 40] [My Peak - 11] RKhFumkKVzA 97. GWEN STEFANI - Used To Love You [uK Peak - 157] [My Peak - 8] zeT_nYtjgTQ 96. TINASHE - All Hands On Deck [uK Peak - 156] [My Peak - 5] kxUdFQ6N_OI So we kick off with a faceless house reworking of a 90s song - a trend that proved to be popular throughout 2015. We've also got Potential Next Timberlake with Nick Jonas who is so low on the chart because I started charting him in 2014 and tired of the song by the time of its UK release. Still a banger though. Not a clue how that Maroon 5 song made it into the top 100. Especially when the far superior 'Sugar' didn't. Those UK chart peaks for Gwen and Tinashe are absolutely diabolical. Hopefully Tinashe can live up to her promise as the next big R&B girl and Gwen can actually get her album out.
January 10, 20169 yr Author 95. SKRILLEX & DIPLO feat. JUSTIN BIEBER - Where Are U Now [uK Peak - 3] [My Peak - 3] nntGTK2Fhb0 94. FLORENCE + THE MACHINE - What Kind Of Man [uK Peak - 37] [My Peak - 5] XgeKHTcufLY 93. KDA feat. TINIE TEMPAH & KATY B - Turn The Music Louder (Rumble) [uK Peak - 1] [My Peak - 5] vh44zE-hlL4 92. NOONIE BAO - Pyramids [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 4] wGlHaYE0boI 91. RIHANNA feat. KANYE WEST & PAUL McCARTNEY - FourFiveSeconds [uK Peak - 3] [My Peak - 3] kt0g4dWxEBo We have the first appearance from the King of the Charts in 2015 - Mr Bieber. I still love Where Are U Now and in my list of my favourite songs of the year it would be a lot higher, especially for the "dolphin" drop! We've also got two slightly underwhelming comebacks from Florence and Rihanna. At least Florence's led to an amazing album while Rihanna has become the punchline of the music industry. It was great to see Katy B finally get a number one this year, even if it was only a dance feature. And finally we have Noonie Bao who, if there is any justice in the world, will become a Big Pop Thing in 2016.
January 10, 20169 yr Hiya Rogue, some of these tracks so far - amazing. Love The Party & Where Are U Now (both #1s on my chart) and a big fan of All Hands On Deck & FourFiveSeconds, great start!
January 11, 20169 yr Author Thanks for the comments guys! On with the next 5 now - 90. DUA LIPA - Be The One [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 1] -rey3m8SWQI 89. DJ SNAKE & ALUNAGEORGE - You Know You Like It [uK Peak - 67] [My Peak - 2] aBn7bjy9c4U 88. JESSIE WARE - You And I (Forever) [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 3] Wo2QB2kqG_w 87. SIA - Big Girls Cry [uK Peak - 77] [My Peak - 6] 4NhKWZpkw1Q 86. ALEX ADAIR - Make Me Feel Better [uK Peak - 13] [My Peak - 5] 626fsEM1Cts First up we have a singer who has a lot of hype going into 2015 - Dua Lipa. Even though she didn't make the Sound Of... top 5 I still think she has potential if she carries on churning out songs like 'Be The One'. It's a bit of an odd group of songs with an AlunaGeorge remix that has been hanging around for a couple of years and a Jessie Ware song that was released at the end of last year but remains amazing. We've also got an underrated Sia single that deserved to do far better than it did - enough with the Maddie videos though! And another faceless house song, with a hint of the tropical house sound that became popular this year.
January 12, 20169 yr Author 85. MAJOR LAZER feat. ELLIE GOULDING & TARRUS RILEY - Powerful [uK Peak - 54] [My Peak - 11] o6b9JpBFjd4 84. WOLF ALICE - You're A Germ [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 6] ZpomZoueWa0 83. PALOMA FAITH - Leave While I'm Not Looking [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 3] ESbBLIJmuzw 82. TAYLOR SWIFT - Wildest Dreams [uK Peak - 40] [My Peak - 5] IdneKLhsWOQ 81. NICK JONAS - Chains [uK Peak - 79] [My Peak - 4] U8UX2bbCHJw Major Lazer follow up their monster hit (spoiler alert: it's still to come) with a slightly more subdued song featuring Queen of Collaborations and Re-Releases Ellie Goulding. I like it but I can see why it never really caught on. One of the biggest breakthroughs in the alternative scene this year was Wolf Alice - their grungy sound has just enough pop sensibility to make me love them - they are unstoppable live. Was 'Leave While I'm Not Looking' even a single? Apparently not, but seen as it's a carbon copy of 'Only Love Can Hurt Like This' it could have scored Paloma another hit. The least memorable 1989 single bows out now (why couldn't it have been New Romantics!) as well what should have been a big follow-up for Nick Jonas. I think piss-poor management/promotion is the reason for 'Chains' flop - it certainly has all the makings of a hit. Edited January 12, 20169 yr by Rogue
January 14, 20169 yr Author 80. RIHANNA - Bitch Better Have My Money [uK Peak - 27] [My Peak - 3] B3eAMGXFw1o 79. CALVIN HARRIS feat. HAIM - Pray To God [uK Peak - 35] [My Peak - 3] 8FOBxcluXdk 78. KYGO feat. PARSON JAMES - Stole The Show [uK Peak - 24] [My Peak - 5] BgfcToAjfdc 77. HANNAH WANTS & CHRIS LORENZO - Rhymes [uK Peak - 13] [My Peak - 4] HlwvWRcPVTw 76. LANA DEL REY - High By The Beach [uK Peak - 60] [My Peak - 10] QnxpHIl5Ynw Bad Gal RiRi leads the charge on this one with yet another "buzz" single and a controversial video to ensure the headlines. I do love the ratchet anthem but I miss her period when she was untouchable and could actually be bothered with her career. Then we have a trio of dance hits - the genre that still ruled the charts this year. 'Pray To God' one of Motion's few redeeming moments and of course it flopped. HAIM suit 80s dance rather fabulously. We also have Kygo-by-numbers and a Daft Punk sampling track that I quickly tired of. We finish with Lana's only upbeat track from 'Honeymoon' but even this leaves me slightly cold. Rather than releasing an album every year I think Lana would benefit from giving herself time to experiment with her craft because it's almost like I've heard this all before now.
January 16, 20169 yr Author 75. M.O - Preach [uK Peak - 51] [My Peak - 5] 3eebMkv3LrY 74. ARIANA GRANDE - Focus [uK Peak - 10] [My Peak - 3] lf_wVfwpfp8 73. DRAKE - Hotline Bling [uK Peak - 3] [My Peak - 3] uxpDa-c-4Mc 72. NICKI MINAJ feat. DRAKE & LIL WAYNE - Truffle Butter [uK Peak - 113] [My Peak - 3] EUS_ONfxRnQ 71. HAILEE STEINFELD - Love Myself [uK Peak - 180] [My Peak - 2] bMpFmHSgC4Q For a moment earlier this year I really though M.O might have a decent chance of breaking through - they had a cool but catchy single and a fair bit of Radio 1 support but alas, it was not to be. Why does the world hate girl groups so much?! Ariana launched her third album campaign with a lesser version of the song she broke the UK with in the first place. We also have a double whammy of Drake: 'Hotline Bling' which might be the most discussed/parodied video of the year and a Nicki Minaj collaboration that I forgot came out last year (Was it a single? Who even knows with Nicki). We finish with one of the true pop injustices of the year - poor old Hailee who deserved to smash with this pure pop brilliance.
January 19, 20169 yr Author 70. BRANDON FLOWERS - I Can Change [uK Peak - 52] [My Peak - 5] 7FmPEoC7vg4 69. JESS GLYNNE - Don't Be So Hard On Yourself [uK Peak - 1] [My Peak - 3] THeLVhU53ow 68. DISCLOSURE feat. SAM SMITH - Omen [uK Peak - 13] [My Peak - 3] fB63ztKnGvo 67. MIKE MAGO feat. DRAGONETTE - Outlines [uK Peak - 8] [My Peak - 2] 03O2yKUgrKw 66. KYGO feat. CONRAD SEWELL - Firestone [uK Peak - 8] [My Peak - 13] 9Sc-ir2UwGU Brandon Flowers had one of the best albums of 2015, infusing his usual indie Americana with a dash of the 80s. 'I Can Change' benefits from a great sample of 'Smalltown Boy'. Here comes Jess Glynne with another of her 100 number ones of the year. It's decent. And then we have a trio of dance songs - a rather disappointing comeback from Disclosure that failed to live up to the height, a bouncy Dragonette collaboration and the peak of tropical house - the ubiquitous Firestone. ARIANA GRANDE - One Last Time [uK Peak - 24] [My Peak - 5] BPgEgaPk62M 'Want To Want Me' surprised me this year by being a Jason Derulo song that I actually liked and didn't get old very quickly. If he stayed away from some of the awful songs (Wiggle, I'm looking at you) he could be a great popstar. I've treated you with the video for FKA Twigs - this was my absolute highlight of Glastonbury 2015, she is an incredible performer and that vogueing was epic. That Madge peak is criminal, I actually though Rebel Heart was a return to form so to see it flop was a bit gutting for me. 'Uptown Funk' was my first number one of the year, carrying over from 2014. And if I never hear it again, that will be too soon. We finish with possibly the worst video of 2015 but what a song. Edited January 21, 20169 yr by Rogue

BRANDON FLOWERS - Can't Deny My Love [uK Peak - 60] [My Peak - 7] 9iiDlU4rhlY We begin with a trio of up and coming ladies. Firstly Natalie La Rose who actually managed to score a hit with 'Somebody'. It's a pretty basic bop that dulls quickly. Then we have poor old Ella Eyre who got pretty overshadowed by Jess Glynne this year - I don't think it helped that Ella released the same song three times in a row. MO featured on one of the biggest songs of the year (spoiler: it's yet to come here) but her solo song was pretty much ignored which is a shame because both the production and the video is incredibly badass. Galantis were one of dance music's biggest success stories by remembering to include a chorus! We love a chorus. And we finish with another 80s throwback from Brandon Flowers who appears to be growing even more handsome with age. Edited January 26, 20169 yr by Rogue
January 26, 20169 yr Author 55. SIA - Elastic Heart [uK Peak - 10] [My Peak - 2] KWZGAExj-es 54. PIA MIA feat. CHRIS BROWN & TYGA - Do It Again [uK Peak - 8] [My Peak - 2] cNw8A5pwbVI 53. CHRIS BROWN - Player [uK Peak - 85] [My Peak - 1] IltwiyqKhEI Elastic Heart first debuted on my chart in 2013 - being the Hunger Games version with The Weeknd but the solo version, complete with the controversial Shia LeBouf video, did a lot better on my chart. Pia Mia scored a decent debut single but I doubt she'll get much more success. I'm still not sure why Ellie chose to launch 'Delirium' with 'On My Mind' - there are FAR better and less repetitive choices on the album. Susanne Sundfor is another Scandinavian marvel who produced one of the best albums of the year - Delirious seriously is incredible. And we see the beginning of Tinashe's transformation into a BIG POPSTAR. Surely 2016 is her year?!
January 27, 20169 yr With how well 'All My Friends' is doing. I think hopefully it will replicate for her as a main artist.

JESS GLYNNE - Not Letting Go [uK Peak - 1] [My Peak - 3] nsDwItoNlLc Selena's foray into the more urban side of pop has worked wonders for her. 'Good For You' is so slinky and sexy - her rather limited vocals are boosted rather than being lost in the mix. The Weeknd has had an amazing year and The Hills is him at his moody best. The bass hits so hard it makes my windows rattle! I'm still not sure why Clean Bandit swapped the vocals of Olly from Years & Years with someone from Glee but it's still a banger. Extra points for the singing bus driver. Nero's second album era has been sorely underappreciated but they transform a pop song into a dystopian stomper so well. And then we have the summer megahit from perennial chart-botheres Tinie Tempah and, yes you guessed it, Jess Glynne.
