February 15, 20169 yr Why is It's Like That dated 1997? That's when it was first released, just didn't take off initially.
February 16, 20169 yr Notably, Jar of Hearts is one of the few million-selling songs that failed to hit the top spot. Only three tracks that have hit the milestone have peaked lower: Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars (6), Journey's Don't Stop Believin' (6) and Bing Crosby's White Christmas (5). Robbie Williams' Angels is the only other million seller to also peak at Number 4, which it did in 1998. Well that's not right, 'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing' also peaked at No. 4.
February 19, 20169 yr All of these million seller announcements have referred to pure sales haven't they? I suspect it will remain that way for a while yet.Until "Hello" gets there eventually.
February 19, 20169 yr I wonder what the proportion of streams to downloads of tracks that are 5 years old or more. Are people that bothered to own a song from 10 years ago or would streaming supply the demand for old songs more than new ones?
February 19, 20169 yr I wonder what the proportion of streams to downloads of tracks that are 5 years old or more. Are people that bothered to own a song from 10 years ago or would streaming supply the demand for old songs more than new ones? people prefer to buy old tracks still, and older acts too. Chaka Khan and Terence Trent D'Arby are both in the sales top 75 and nowhere on streaming, while Rick Wakeman is top 40 on sales and nowhere on streaming/combined charts. Pretty much teen-appeal mass-appeal pop dominate streaming, and niche acts do much better on sales. some other unrelated general comments cos I'm in the mood :P : I'm very happy the million-sellers remains sales, it's always had ups and downs and there were no million-sellers from 2015 (yet) and many old tracks have to show resilience over a long period of time, as opposed to streaming "sales" where Bieber could possibly set a bottom-burp to a cool dance beat and "sell" a million :P Oddly he can't sell vast quantities of paid-for albums though. (I have paid downloaded 2 of the tracks off his current album so I don't count myself as a Justin H8r, I've given him actual cash. You're welcome JB  )
