I think you can only do it if they're level 100 anyway but really with these horde encounters to get EVs than in itself is easier than ever because you get loads of experience from those tbh

Bloody versilify on youtube, notorious whiny twat, is very up in arms about this saying it is cheating  I mean it's a legit way that Nintendo have put in the game, it's just making it much easier so competitive battlers don't have to waste hour upon hour selectively breeding for it to just go wrong. I don't see what's wrong with it, it's making training more accessible and easier, it's just people like him don't get to be on their high horse anymore.

ICE TYPE VULPIX/NINETALES :o :o :o :o They also show the Z-move thing that was teased in the trailer, I'm hoping they still have time to incorporate that in the anime.

I would be more excited by the Z-Move if the animation for it wasn't so damn long. Why does the trainer need to dance along?

That was the problem with the Mega Evolution, the damn animation to unlock it took forever.

None of these new Pokemon excite me. The only thing I look forward to in new games is running into old pokemon. I do want an Ice Ninetails tho.

ther than Megas these are played as being the result of them changing over time (traditional evolution rather than in the Pokemon sense, I suppose) because of the climates they live in within Alola. I prefer these to Megas, rather than just upping the power of stuff that may not need it, it gives them a totally new direction, a fresh look. I particularly love Ninetales' form and I think I may well use it in-game, I found it quite meh before. It's pretty but a plain fire type is pretty bland, Ice/Fairy and the new look really draws me to it. It's a really good way to refresh some of the Gen 1 Pokemon who've kind of fallen out of use with so many new Pokemon doing what they do with better stats or wider movepools.

I like Oricorio's different forms, it may be a tad gimmicky but it's diverse and might have good enough stats like Hawlucha to justify being used. Minior and Gumshoos are less good, the latter in the pre-evo of Yungoos and just looks more like Donald Trump and for the former - since when did leviatating Pokemon have to be flying type  Formantis/Lurantis look very nice, the baby is so cute! I like Mudsdale pre-evo Mudbray too, that's also pretty cute.

The "island challenge" hints at maybe a different direction? It seems like you have to defeat the leaders of a trial and then the "Kahuna" of the whole island. and there are 4 trials/islands. I think this may be instead of gyms? I noticed that with 4 islands it still adds up to 8 leaders so that would be the same as badges, and you'd get into the Pokemon League after that. It would be nice to have them alongside gyms though to really beef up the main game. People have noticed that the map doesn't seem to have anywhere for a pokemon league but it may just be not obvious. People are taking that as it being a Kalos league again like the fact you have to go to Indigo Plateau in HG/SS but idk. Maybe if there were two main stories like the gyms and the challenge thing you'd just face a champion as a final boss t the end, we'll see.

I thinkZ Powers feel kinda overkill given how easy the game is lately but perhaps this game won't be so easy and we'll need them. Like Mega Evolution you can only use one per battle.

I was about to throw money at the screen but then I realized I didn't have any.

I may get a 3DS eventually just to play one of these games. I haven't been this pumped for a Pokemon game since Black & White. I'm loving the new Pokemon and the new concepts that they're bringing to this game (like the region-specific and island-specific forms and the new island challenge system) and am super stoked for this game. Main thing I'm hoping for now is that these games keep up the trend of having stronger stories like B&W (1 and 2) and XY, and don't revert back to the old "so-so" levels of story telling that came before that.

If they keep that up, I'm definitely sold on this game.

New Alola Forms:

• The new Exeggutor form would easily get outclassed by Mega Sceptile so I don't see that being used at all.

• I like the aesthetic of the new Vulpix/Ninetales forms, I see them being used as strictly dragon killers though. I always saw Ninetales as deserving of a secondary type anyway, so the new Ice/Fairy form seems very fitting. The only thing that makes me wary about it is the 4x weakness to Steel types and it doesn't have that impressive Defense.

• The new Sandshrew/Sandslash seems SUPER weak compared to its origins forms. I can see it keeping its decent at best speed stat but it will be easily outclassed by Weavile (one of the ONLY physical Ice attackers) and that also has a 4x weakness to Fighting.

New Pokemon:

• I think Yungoos/Gumshoos will be one of those Route 1 type Pokemon that are good for the first five minutes of the game but then get too tedious to encounter and too weak to progress through the storyline with.

• Oricorio does seem like it could have as decent stats as Hawlucha, although I think it would focus more on Special moves rather than Physical.

• Lurantis reminds me of a Special attacker counterpart to Leavanny, although it could fall into the more well-rounded attacker group given what type of attack Solar Blade will be. Either way that's probably my second favorite so far after Vikavolt.

• Minior being a Flying-type makes NO SENSE. I felt that it could have at least had Levitate as an ability, although its Ability makes it look a little more justified... It still makes no sense at all.

• Mudbray is pretty cute in a Deerling/Blitzle kind of way.

Other features:

• I feel that the "riding on Pokemon" feature is going to open up to another mini game similar to Pokemon Contests/Triathlon/Showcases. Maybe they'll incorporate Skiddo/Rhyhorn races from the anime? Or maybe something related to equestrian events?

• The new Z-move seems like a less nerfed version of Mega Evolutions but I think they will have the same difficulty when it comes to obtaining them. And I guess they'll be regulated to the starters maybe? Although I did see Pikachu use it so I guess it depends on what Pokemon you develop the strongest bond with. I can see this being referenced in the anime later on.

• I can see the Island Challenge being a new direction but only in terms of an Elite Four type of challenge. I see four Trial leaders and then the Kahuna of the region similar to the Champion of the other leagues. Although is this the earliest we've seen something like this (Gym Leader/Elite Four types) revealed? I wouldn't read that much into it.

What I want to see next:

• Probably more detail on the Alola region lore. With the new forms, I am assuming that there are other forms of past generation Pokemon, so I want to see how that came about. I can see this in a new movie but considering the latest Pokemon movie was released in the middle of July I don't think we'll be seeing more Legendary Pokemon origin stories until the game comes out.

I'm sure Alolan Sandslash will have mega defences to be used as a wall, although the 4x weakneses to fighting means that would just be easily countered. But that doesn't stop Ferrothorn being spammed to high heavens online with its 4x fire weakness  Perhaps these Alola forms will have higher stats and their 4x weaknesses are ways to nerf them a little bit  I feel like it might have good attack and great physical defence like Avalugg, whereas Weavile for example has woeful defence so it's not used a great deal competitively. Anyway it's not like Sandslash was originally that strong, it was a bland ground type which has been outclassed many times since Gen 1.

Also I'm sure earlier I saw something official tweet that the new forms are due to microclimates in the Alola region. And there's a Z-Move of each type so I think maybe you get an item at some point on your journey and you give that to one Pokemon. What I never got with Mega Evolution is that it went on and on about the bond that you have but you could easily just catch something or trade it over and Mega Evolve it straight away provided you have the corresponding stone. It would be good if it was based on the friendship mechanic and you had to have max happiness to use it or something.

I do like the Alola forms, makes for a nice change.

The Z-moves seem cool as well, it's definitely better than Mega Evolution which was kinda pointless. Hopefully it doesn't take up a whole move slot though as you can only use it once per battle.

It definitely won't take up a move slot  There's been a lot of speculation about a 5th move slot being added but that was quickly rubbished with leaked screenshots so I think this is where that started from, it's kind of a 5th move but not in the traditional way as it's like not a Charziard could have Flamethrower, Dragon Claw, Sky Attack, Dragon Dance and Thunderpunch, it could have Flamethrower, Dragon Claw, Sky Attack, Dragon Dance and then this Z-Move which I assume will have a little button at the bottom like mega evolution if it's able to be used on the current Pokemon.

that makes more sense, and it should also mean a mega-evolved pokemon won't be able to use a Z-move.

Ferrothorn had the Sp. Def stats to counter its 4x weakness to Fire, so there's that. And Weavile has tremendous speed stats which, if used (let alone bred) correctly, can be quite deadly. I could see Alolan Sandslash being a defensive wall like the original had the potential to be but I still feel like it could easily be OHKO'd by Flamethrower/Aura Sphere/Focus Blast. I just feel that it needs more. Alolan Ninetales has OODLES of potential though.

Yeah the Z-moves will end up being something that can be activated in the main battle menu and not be represented in the move slots.

God, Liam, this is giving me MORE anticipation to do a Pokemon type rate!

Do it tbh it's needed. I think there was one in like 2010 but there's been 2 gens since and another coming up

OMG OK THO THESE ARE THE STARTER EVOLTUIONS. Grass/Flying, Fire/Dark, Water/Fairy - three unique start type combos :D

A youtuber just made me realise that one of the island challenge leaders in Litten's final evolution's leaked concept art from ages ago, people just assumed this was fake but now the girl (circled in the article I retrieved these pics from) in said concept art has cropped up in the trailer too, months after this leak, seemingly verifying it. I mean it could just be a coincidence but aside from just the flower in her hair I think it does look a lot like her... One thing's for sure though this has made it a tough decision, I was set on Rowlett but its evolution is my least favourite of these three... This might not be true still but I think it's too big a coincidence that the girl shows up in a trailer. Also with Ash in the concept art too, could she be the next series of the anime's female companion? :o

This is the first I've heard of this but I'd love to see it.

Not sure I can even comment on everything that's been revealed because there was just so much but what an amazing load of information. Everything looks like it'll be fun to try out, even the stuff I'm less convinced on I think will be interesting as a diversion from the norm. The Ninetails and Sandslash though. Soooooo fabulous.

Rumour has it there are more Alolan forms coming - a leak that correctly predicted Salandit, Mimikyu's English name and I think the starter evos have said them. These are said to be the Abra line (fighting), Butterfree (Bug/Psychic), Nidoking/Queen (Poison/Fighting), Growlithe line (Water :o), Rattata line (Dark) and Doduo line (Fighting/Flying). However it did also say Fire/Fairy for Ninetails so was only half right, although regardless I think some of these are interesting. I am GAGGING for Growlithe to retain it's fire typing alongside Water, that would be so good! I really love this idea more and more as I hear about it, it refreshes Pokemon I'm not fussed on or haven't used for a while and gives me reason to want to use them again.

This is also drawing comparisons to the Orange Islands - remember that Crystal Onix episode? :o

I don't appreciate the shoving of the fighting type down our throats, although I am totally here to have my weave snatched by a water type Growlithe/Arcanine!!

I love the idea of a fighting type Alakazam although really it kind of goes against the names being based on magic

Also we're apparently finally getting a snowman Pokemon *.* As well as a ywo stage cat Pokemon that is Normal type when captured but will inherit the fathers primary type as its 2nd type when hatched from an egg and the colour/pattern varies by type.

Every odd-numbered generation seems to be having a Dark-type early catch now! That Dark Rattata is giving me Poochyena/Purrloin vibes. I am HERE for Water Growlithe and Bug/Psychic Butterfree!

Are they only doing Alolan forms for Gen 1? In this case there needs to be some connection between that and Kanto in the canon.
