November 18, 20168 yr Anyone playing this? I'm a few hours in and I have to say I'm really disappointed. The story at the beginning is very slow to kick off, and it's almost like they're holding your hand a guiding you the entire time. Seems like a very amateur game geared towards newcomers to Pokemon over people who have been playing for years.
November 23, 20168 yr Today's the day *.* My pre-order should be here by the time I'm back from lecture but I probably won't play until tomorrow evening because I have work due in at midday tomorrow that I'm behind on and then a 3 hour lecture :/
November 23, 20168 yr Have Fun! I know I said the beginning was very boring/childish - but, it does really start to pick up. I'm on the third island currently.
November 25, 20168 yr I've just done the first trial and yeah it's quite annoyingly childish so far, I totally agree they really hold your hand. Like Z Moves aren't rocket science why do you need a whole tutorial for it? I love the scope of it though and I have heard it picks up which is good, the start of pokemon games is always quite tedious! I was saying to my friend yesterday, it's 2016 why can't we have skippable tutorials, or when you start a new game pick if you're a novice and want help or if you don't need it.
November 25, 20168 yr Author I've ordered my copy of Sun now, hopefully it's as good as it looks. (that's annoying if you still can't skip the tutorials :/ but at least they've removed HM moves yas)
November 25, 20168 yr It's already picking up imo, Z Moves are just pointless though, a worse addition than Mega Evolution but in a different way  Megas are a competitive gamebreaker and whilst Z Moves aren't as bad they seem to one hit KO everything when they're done to you so it makes Trial Leaders etc kinda OP. it just feels like they tried to emulate Mega Evolution without copying it and it's just kinda stupid, I'd say I won't use them but apparently the game has a difficulty curve so it may be necessary in later trials or ones where the type advantage isn't there etc.
November 25, 20168 yr Thought it was time to get up to speed so I've finally started playing Pokemon X which I bought ages ago. Hopefully will be able to catch up to everyone else by the end of the holidays
December 23, 20168 yr Just only now reluctantly finishing this. I have to say, this was probably my least favorite Pokemon Game yet. The visuals were great. They really outdid themselves there. That was it for me. The only island that was any good was the Third, and only because by that point they stop holding your hand. Island 4 was way too short. Plus. Caves. The most frustrating part was after you defeat the Elite 4 + Kukui, it doesn't stop or allow you to save. You're basically forced into the post game celebration and catching (or defeating) Tapu Koko, more celebration, next day, Lillie leaving.. ect. That mixed with the Credits was about 45 minutes where you have no idea if your game has saved since before battling Kukui. I know everyone thinks Lillie is a goddess. I think she's a basic bitch. That whole storyline with her mother was boring AF. Got dark towards the end and not really the ending you'd expect from a Pokemon Game. Professor Kukui is a stud tho. Yes plz. Won't be revisiting this one. Nothing from the Post-Game events looks interesting either.
December 23, 20168 yr I finished a week or two ago, I enjoyed it! There is a bit too much hand holding, you'd think 2016 there'd be an option where you put your name etc. to say you've played Pokemon and don't need guidance every 2 minutes. It was probably a bit too easy, I was underlevelled for the league and had 0 problems, but that was a problem last gen 2. The little tweaks and changes they made for pretty much all for the better. The thing I don't like is post game, I'm never that fussed about collecting the legendaries, although I did do the UBs as they're something different. The Battle Tree can get f***ed too, the whole game is so easy and then it's impossible to get more than about 8 wins in that because they all have like pseudo legendaries with 360 coverage  I know that the likes of the Battle Maison is too easy when you have people using Weedles and shit that you obliterate with Charizard but this was too far in the other direction. I dread to think what the Super round is like, I made sure I had a balanced team of 3 or 4 for it and still they always had some sort of sweeper that just obliterated everything by like battle 9. Apparently Battle Royales are even worse because people have legendaries but I haven't tried those except for the one they made you do. My in-game team in the end was Primarina, Mimikyu, Toucannon, Mudsdale, Salazzle and Vikavolt. Mimikyu, Toucannon and Mudsdale are AMAZING, Mimikyu one-shot the last Totem Pokemon who everyone was moaning about  Toucannon is by far the best generational bird ever, Skill Link is an amazing ability and it gives it variety and coverage as it can use Bullet Seed and Rock Blast with 125 base power, it was so refreshing compared to the usual normal/flying shit you just stick Fly on (although Talonflame was different too, I just wasn't a fan). Mudsdale is bulky af, the ability is a god send. In game I don't think it fainted even once, it goes down to a strong special attacker if it's a super effective hit in the Battle Tree but as above that's just ridiculously hard. Primarina is solid too but I didn't find it my MVP. I got the Steenee you trade a Granbull for in Seafolk Town too for a Tsareena for the Battle Tree and I think I'll definitely use Tsareena in my next playthrough, it's a beast. I also want to use Alolan Golem, Ribombee, Palossand, Bewear and Wishiwashi in future playthroughs, also maybe Dhelmise but I cba with the 1% encounter rate (even in the bubbling patches it's 10% but they always vanish straight away). Also forget Kukui, the male swimmer trainers *.*
December 24, 20168 yr My team end game was Incineroar, Snorlax, Kangaskhan, Bewear, Lunala and Vikavolt. I ended up switching out Salazzle and Palossand from my team last minute in favor of Bewear and Lunala to train them up. In all honesty, I only used Icineroar, Snorlax and Kangskhan to defeat the Elite 4. I caught a Mudbray earlier in the game but my team was full, definately a pokemon I may want to breed and hatch. Same with Crabdrawler. I can't believe I waited all that time for Vikavolt to evolve and it ended up being one of the weaker members of my team. Such a disappointment.
December 24, 20168 yr Author Haven't completed the game but I've got Incineroar, Toucannon, Lilligant and Mudsdale on my team who are all amazing! (Also Gyarados and Haunter to make up six)
June 6, 20178 yr They've just announced Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, to be released November 17th for the 3DS :o Idk if it's gonna be a proper sequel like Black and White 2, or one like Platinum, preferably the former and the fact they're paired suggests that maybe? Idk, it'd be a bit disappointing if it was a Platinum like sequel just a year after release, as Platinum took 2 years to come out. I assume as Sun and Moon was so story driven, there'll be a different one for the sequel at least, I loved Sun and Moon but I don't particularly want to play through it again just yet as it was such a story driven game I'd feel bored watching it all transpire again unless I did a randomizer of it lmao but then you have to buy the stuff to be able to patch it. All we've seen is that the box legendaries have new forms like Primal Groudon and Kyogre, and that there is an "alternate story", hopefully we get new Megas or Alolan Forms but I highly doubt it, because that'll cause connectivity problems with the first versions. I expect there'll be an even wider range of Pokemon available and a slightly different story but nothing too drastic. They're also doing Gold and Silver on the virtual console :puke: Gen II is the f***ing worst. That comes out on September 22, the same day as Pokken Tournament's deluxe edition for the Switch.
June 6, 20178 yr I think from a live stream that I was watching the "alternative story" might be Gym Leaders? Would love a "back to basics" kind of feel. Also the "Pokémon you've never seen before" is probably referring to both Alolan forms and maybe some Pokémon that were cut from the beta?
June 6, 20178 yr I'll take a pass, unless there's significant changes (mostly, being the story and it being so drawn out).
