March 16, 201610 yr Wow fantastic update with the Brillant new track from the Mystery Jets earning them their first playlisting in around 6-8 years I think. The opening single didn't even get playlisted but it did get spot plays by Greg James who must have bigged it up in the meeting today. Also good NEs from Jake Bugg, Panic! & glad to see they've decided to support that great new track from Aurora! Heard her perform it on Andrew Marr on Sunday and it sounded great. Pity Flume, Anne-Marie and Dua Lipa look like their stuck in the B list!
March 16, 201610 yr Author About time they moved the playlist to come into effect on release day! It doesn't necessaily mean they'll playlist songs any quicker though, I hope it does but I imagine they'll still want to go by impact dates.
March 16, 201610 yr Change in playlisting tactics: Wednesday, March 16, 2016 NEW MUSIC FRIDAY ARRIVES IN BLIGHTY Radio 1 & 1Xtra Head of Music Chris Price has revealed that, from here on out, every Friday will be New Music Friday in an attempt to "recognise the industry's new global release day, as well as to satisfy what we think is our listeners' growing impatience to hear new music in an onair/on-sale world." Price also explained that they're rearranging their programming cycle so that it's in sync with the chart week. Thusly, they’ll refresh station playlists on Friday mornings—as opposed to Mondays—the Radio 1 playlist meeting will move from Monday to Tuesday afternoon and they’ll publish the new playlist every Tuesday at 5pm, while the 1Xtra playlist will move to Wednesday. Read his full statement below. http://hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=300268 Does this mean they're doing away with impact dates?
March 16, 201610 yr Author Does this mean they're doing away with impact dates? That's not what I understood from the article but it would be pretty exciting if they are!
March 16, 201610 yr I'm living in hope they can if they're placing so much emphasis on doing it for new music Friday and to play new music sooner.
March 16, 201610 yr The way the articles written it suggests they may be thinking of changing the way songs are taken on board by not adding songs so late - eg something I've been saying for months is that they should add big on air releases straight into the A list eg the new Tinie one - it's pointless C listing that why not just A list it? I assume this change comes in due to the new manager radio 1 have got now? Edited March 16, 201610 yr by Steve201
