Posted April 16, 201610 yr http://i63.tinypic.com/2rq0cc8.jpg All the time, usually multiple times a week, I delve into the archives on the chart website and for the last few weeks I've been noting down hundreds, I mean hundreds of songs that I've enjoyed over my time of following the charts - and also other tracks that I've liked that are older, some from the 80's and 90's and a couple even earlier than that.  This thread is a place to showcase my favourite older chart tracks with commentary, as I've got so many opinions to share about other songs that maybe don't get mentioned on here as much any more. The tracks in this countdown will mostly be from this century, and most of those will be from this decade however a few will be from the 20th century :D  Hopefully as well as showing you my favourite songs of yesteryear/a few years ago, I'll bring back some chart memories for yourself too, and you can share your opinions on my songs of choice :D The plan is that this'll be a constant thread, I hope to update this as much as I can but don't expect a schedule or anything like that - sometimes I'll end up forgetting to update this but I have copious amounts of songs and I'm still writing more down so this won't be over for a good while :D This isn't a countdown, so it doesn't have an specific end, it's just going to be a commentary of songs on no order :D ~~ My rules for inclusion in this thread is that the songs have to be over 1 year old, and they have to have charted in the top 40 for at least 1 week. Oh, and they have to be certified tunes :music:  Edited May 13, 201610 yr by mdh

Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know bpOSxM0rNPMÂ ({11}-18-19-20-21-18-15-15-21-30-36-24-14-22-26-37-40-46-51-46-62-75R(4)-65-56R(2)-57-65-68-74-39R(4)-39-51-65-67R(24)-71->34)Â We kick off proceedings with a really great track from the Arctic Monkeys. This track premiered around the time when I spent a lot of time listening to Radio 1, so it was one of the defining songs of summer 2013 for me. The gritty vocals of Alex Turner never fail to put me in a better mood and this track is one of my go to chilled anthems for any occasion. Â Succeeded by the fantastic 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High', this track takes me back to the rainy day I first heard it and fell in love with the addictive guitar riff and dry, whiny vocals. April 16, 201610 yr mdh I think this may be better suited to "Countdowns and End of Year Charts", whilst this technically isn't a countdown there are some similar threads happening there already! Is that OK? :heehee:Â Not keen on that first song oops but I am looking forward to what else will appear!! :cheer:
April 16, 201610 yr Author Yeah, go ahead :heehee: I'm not sure why I posted it in charts but it did mean to go in the countdowns section  :heehee:

April 16, 201610 yr Author 2. Nelly - Hey Porsche Fh1ZFNoREjg (17-15-9-7-{6}-6-8-11-12-19-22-27-36-34-44-55->16) We delve into the charts of spring 2013 to find this gem of a track. I had been a fan of Nelly for a while and when he dropped Hey Porsche I liked it from first listen. The lyrics, although slightly comedic, are awfully catchy and I found myself singing it all day long for a period of at least a month. It was a favourite with myself and my friends. It peaked at number 6 in the charts, and after climbing for a while, it spent a fairly long time inside the top 10, making one of the most popular songs of quarter 2 in 2013. The video to this is typical Nelly, and it just added to the summery vibes the track gave off. Edited April 16, 201610 yr by mdh
April 17, 201610 yr Author 3. Kiesza - Hideaway Vnoz5uBEWOAÂ ({1}-2-3-3-5-9-16-17-20-25-27-29-33-34-37-41-37-34-40-39-43-47-49-40-43-56-62-67-66-60-55-75-68R(6)-73-72R(2)->35)Â On first listen to this - I hated it, I thought it was just some crap European artist who'd have a minor top 40 hit, however as it began to grow in popularity it grew on me - and it ended up becoming one of my favourite songs of 2014. The bizarre interlude separating the chorus and verses was incredibly catchy, and it was famed for being a 'one take video', something that still amazes me to this day. Â This track hit number one and spent a good while of spring 2014 in the top 40, making it one of the biggest hits of the quarter.Â
April 17, 201610 yr Author 4. Hozier - Take Me To Church PVjiKRfKpPI (49-49-35-28-26-32-31-33-34-34-25-31-32-27-22-20-23-10-5-3-3-{2}-3-2-2-2-4-6-6-7-8-10-15-16-17-16-19-22-24-26-28-31-35-33-43-39-39-43-47-47-42-39-46-49-53-53-52-56-66-66-65-69-69-62R(5)-70R(2)-55->66) If you ask anyone, 'what was the biggest song of 2015', they're bound to bring this track up at some point. Hozier's chilled Irish vocals struck a chord with me when it began to rise in popularity in early 2015, and the powerful message behind the song somewhat strengthened my liking for it - the video shows a beautifully portrayed story and I'd highly recommend watching it. This track had a mammoth chart run - hanging around the lower regions of the chart for god knows how long, and then jumping up into the top 10, where it spent several months.Â
April 17, 201610 yr OMG Hideaway is my JAM!! One of the definite standout tracks of 2014 for sure! I like Hey Porsche but grew quickly tired of it back then, same goes for Take Me To Church, but that really is a beautiful track even if it got overplayed to hell and back!

April 17, 201610 yr Author 5. Gotye ft. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know 8UVNT4wvIGY (36-21-7-3-{1}-3-1-1-1-1-3-5-3-3-6-7-10-9-10-9-17-17-16-19-20-17-16-17-25-27-30-46-44-42-48-53-51-51-54-60-50-66-59-62-69-56R(4)-55-60-45-66-74-61R(4)-57->53) Next we see a track from 2012, arguably one of the biggest one hit wonders around, Gotye. His track, Somebody That I Used To Know was the biggest track of 2012 by far, spending a mammoth (by the 2012 standards), 5 weeks at the top of the chart. This is probably one of my favourite songs of all time, the chilled vibe of it but slightly jaunty music lyrics combine to make a really addictive song, and the addition of Kimbra adds a great element to the song, almost as if the lyrics being spoken are drawing out an argument between a couple. One of the most recognizable chorus' and beats around make this song an easy pick on my list.
April 17, 201610 yr Author 6. Flo Rida - Good Feeling 3OnnDqH6Wj8 (2-3-4-5-6-7-3-{1}-2-5-9-12-17-21-29-36-33-42-44-47-35-43-56-60-64-73-59R(6)-57-72->29) I don't know what to put for this one, apart from what a bop :music: This track is a high tempo, fun, innocent track which summarized many peoples feelings about the start of 2012 - optimism for the new year. This track hit number one just as I was getting into the charts, and did so 8 weeks into its chart run, which is a very impressive feat to have such longevity. The track was one of the biggest of the first quarter of 2012, and is a genuinely fun, carefree track that doesn't incorporate sex, violence or anything else like that in to it. Love it.
April 18, 201610 yr Author 7. Molly - Children of The Universe SCnBZwm4wqQ (48-33-{23}->3) This next track comes as a surprise to myself - it's the UK's eurovision entry for 2014, Molly's Children of the Universe. I didn't like it at first but soon it grew on me to become one of my favourite Eurovision entries of the year, and subsequently my favourite song for a few weeks in 2014. This track is very accessible for Eurovision standards, and combines a really cool video with great lyrics to make it a fantastic jam that I'll remember for a long time :D Oh btw, pls don't forget to leave your opinions on these songs :D Edited April 18, 201610 yr by mdh
