In all honesty, I don't think most of this album is catchy. Many people I know like myself refer to this album as a grower.

On first listen, the only song I liked was Lithium.. THAT stood out as powerful and catchy.

On first listen, Lithium and Lacrymosa really stood out for me, as did Sweet Sacrifice.

The album IS a brilliant one, but I have to echo the above and say it's an ALBUM album, rather than a SINGLE one.

That's no bad thing though ... I have a lot of respect for acts who won't sell out to have a couple of top 10 hits, and instead make an album they're proud of.

Havent made an opinion on this yet tbh.

On one hand I do like it, but on the other hand I dont and i cant decide wether to buy it if I wont grow into it.

However the album art/booklet is amazing

Lithium and Lacrymosa are the winners at the moment, I really like the choir in Lacrymosa as it reminds me of Fallen. Overall at the moment Fallen is a better album for me mainly as it's much more commercial I think Open Door will grow on me.
It's a lot less commercial so it's bound to be less catchy, but I think this time around the lyrics are more important than a catchy hook. I think the album overall will sell less than Fallen, but I think it will still sell a good 7/8m.

I've actually finally gotten round to buying a 'hard copy' of this (I've had it on my hard-drive for weeks..), I got it on the same day as Cradle of Filth's "Thornography" believe it or not...

And the weirdest thing.... They somehow actually compliment each other.... :o Don't ask me how, but I listened to em back to back and they just seem to 'go together' in some weird way.....(nope, I dont understand it either...)

Did you just give them a compliment Scott? :o

I think I just had a stroke.

Well, they are in the same general ballpark as most of the stuff I listen to  , and they've considerably moved away from being tragically cliched and offensively commercial (good move in ditching Ben Moody, it would appear he was the problem all along, not Amy...), so I guess it's okay for me to like them now.... And, by god compared to the bilge that the likes of MCR are coming away with at the moment, Ev seem like Nightwish....

Dont expect me to start posting on the Mariah Forum anytime before hell freezes over though hon.... ;)

Not even if she comes out with a new METAL image? :(

I'd kinda know that she didn't really mean it....

Never gonna happen though is it..? Cant see her getting together with Slayer or Cradle of Filth and doing some Operatic/Black Metal album....

I keep hearing that it's not as mainstream as Fallen, no hooks at all. Is that true? I liked "Weight of the world" but that's all I heard. Is is true that the album has no hooks?

Funny you say that; Weight Of The World is probably as close to Fallen as you're going to get.

I love the fact that The Open Door isn't as mainstream as Fallen. It's a true rock album, not this nu-metal material that they did beforehand. I adore Fallen, but it's far too vanilla when I listen back to it. The tracks tended to merge into one and were all in the same atmosphere, with The Open Door every track has it's own face and we can see different elements to Amy's songwriting. Fallen was based on teenage angst: Escaping into one's imagination (Imaginary), suicide (Tourniquet), frustration (Going Under). The Open Door sees the evolution into adulthood: Breaking free from an abusive relationship (Sweet Sacrifice), finding true love (Good Enough), a search for guidance (The Only One), saying goodbye to a loved one for the last time (Like You).

I need to stop obsessing.

Yes, you do  , but you're pretty much spot on. The title "The Open Door" is very much a metaphor for Amy, she has opened the doors of perception in her mind and gone through them, the album is all about Amy finally living up to her potential as a songwriter, getting rid of Moody was the key to opening the door I feel (OUCH, overly done metaphor alert!!! )... "Fallen" is an album for angsty teens, "The Open Door" is an album for grown ups....

I swear there are times on this album when they reach the creative highs of The Smashing Pumpkins or A Perfect Circle (and considering how much I love these bands this is saying something for me)...

This is a Hard Rock album, nothing remotely 'Goth', 'Nu Metal' or 'Emo' about it...

If some of the "Fallen" crowd get scared off, their loss, they can bugger off and listen to whiny, contrived, emotionally empty c**p like My Chemical Romance .. Ev will make up for it by getting the enlightened Lacuna Coil/Within Temptation fans who were, in the past, cynical about Ev... (ie, people like me  ...)
