Hi Guys

I've been working on this for a few years now, so I hope you enjoy it and find it interesting. Over the next few months I will be counting down the most successful singles / albums in UK chart history.

I've have went through each chart since the charts first began and allocated a point system, number 1 = 100 points and number 100 = 1, pretty simple really.

I'm pretty sure there will be errors especially regarding re-entries, re-releases and remixes but we shall see how it goes.

All interaction is appreciated also, what's your opinion on certain songs ? higher than you expected ? lower ?

I have countdowns for the -

yeah, mega hyped for this, going to be very exciting! :D

Thanks guys, I love this site but sometimes there seems to be lots of polls and rates which is great because people interact but I like to see lots of facts and figures, hopefully these threads will see a lot of interaction also.

Tempted to start it now, wasn't expecting people to reply to be honest ha ha
Yes go ahead with this. You've definitely given an almighty task in doing this. I'm very intrigued by this.

Number 500 - Lorde - Royals

Peak - 1

Points - 1839

Weeks in the top 10 - 4 weeks

Weeks in the top 100 - 34 weeks

Personal Option

If I'm honest I didn't really get this song and to be honest I still don't, its ok, I don't hate it but I'm generally surprised it only had 4 weeks in the top 10, for some reason it felt like it was around for ages.

What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?

Edited by Dannyboy

Oh I thought Royals spent longer in the top 10 too! I'm not massive on it myself, pretty much her entire album is better imo.

Royals  Also shocked it only had 4 weeks in the top 10!

(I'm presuming this is UK Singles first?)

Oh yeah UK Singles, it would help if I said that at the start ha ha

Is this best selling or best rated by Buzzjack users?

I never really got Royals either. I didn't like her voice and I didn't like the song.

Also - this is quite an undertaking. I will try and comment on as many as possible.

No this is nothing to do with sales or ratings, this is purely on a point system based on chart performance

Number 499 - Pat Boone - Friendly Persuasions

Peak - 3

Points - 1843

Weeks in the top 10 - 10 weeks

Weeks in the top 100 - 21 weeks

Personal Option

I have never heard this before but it seems harmless enough, its the kind of song I’m sure my grandparents would have loved. It was number 3 for 3 weeks, It was behind Guy Mitchell and Frankie Vaughan for all 3 weeks.

What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?

This looks really exciting!!!

'Royals' is fairly good, I forgot just how long a chart run it had actually (spent 17 weeks top 40) but it did feel very big at the time. Strange that nothing she's done since has made much of a chart impact as she had so much hype around her for a few months.

Lol at random 50s songs coming in already. Looking forward to how well Frankie Laine 'I Believe' does (with its eighteen weeks at #1). I also remember 'Rock Around The Clock' having a massive chart run too.

Yasss Pat. Actually this should be really interesting as I'm pretty sure there are going to be tons of songs I've never listened to in here from before the mid 1970s at least, where my music knowledge gets very patchy.

I adore Lorde and Royals in general, it really stood out for me and I generally love the 'click' beat. I'd comfortably put it in my all time top 100 actually.

Yeah I agree I love the randomness of this countdown when all the 50s, 60s and 70s songs are mixed in with up to date songs.

Peak - 4

Points - 1845

Weeks in the top 10 - 4 weeks

Weeks in the top 100 - 29 weeks

Not my favourite Calvin Harris song, I just cant get with Ellie Goulding and her voice, it just irritates me, the video is super cute though but why couldn't we have more Calvin with his top off ha ha
