As someone who rarely has confirmation battles, I wouldn't mind losing in a few more. There's always more than one song I'm willing to send.

 

Thing is, if someone lays claim to all the songs they post in national threads then that's basically a reserve list (and many songs that never get sent). And you can't prove that someone hasn't seen it. I've always said with this, if you see something you've wanted to send in someone else's national thread, let them know. Try and sort something out.

I wasn't accusing ANYONE of stealing I'm just trying to make my point that it can't be certain, and let's be honest we all love our own songs so it always would feel like stealing even if the person on the other side had genuine reason :kink: (lmfao and if even I had heard of some of the names in his thread I'm certainly not denying you would have!)

 

This really just goes back to the fact that I don't like or agree with the new method of potential sharing. I posted my songs in my thread this month as I didn't want to jump to criticise it without giving it a go myself. The reaction from my thread/survey just made me even more unsure so I'll be going with none of those songs as a result of that :'). With talking to people over PM about it I knew who had seen my songs, with putting it in threads I had no idea who had even had a peek! Some people may prefer that but I guess it just isn't for everyone, it's certainly not for me. This song contest should be about sharing new music and I don't get why that can't start in discussing potentials with other people over whatever forms of media they choose.

 

What I do 100% agree with is stopping people making it obvious WHICH entry they have chosen, which imo is completely different from potential SHARING. I think if we're going to strike a healthy balance it should just be stopping this from happening ((which YES I know I have been guilty of doing in the past)), whether that be on plug.dj, PMs or national threads.

Iz I do think that's a really good point and something which should be happening! (In fact I found myself in that position with one of travis' potentials so did discuss it with him! :kink:). I do understand that not every single person will check national threads, so in the same way I'd hate for backlash to be put on people who don't check, as they may end up getting shit for "stealing" despite having no idea!

That just means it's a rush to post songs in a national thread which defeats the purpose of a confirmation then as the purpose of the latter is to give an even playing field for all competitors of this contest.

 

What's the difference between this and rushing to confirm a song as soon as the link goes up though? At least if it's been posted in someone's thread first you know who genuinely has been wanting to send it for some time and who has just rushed to confirm before anyone else can. It gives a little more to people's arguments when something like Travis' incident happens so it's not just a case of one persons word against another. That's what I will say I like about the new system of sharing potentials but maybe it's not such a coincidence that there's been so many double confirmations during a month where this new system is in action and people 'stealing' others potentials was a flaw in it a lot of us saw from the beginning, maybe it is just a coincidence though idk.

Honestly I think at this stage we can't assume it's anything more than a coincidence and poor Travy just became the victim of another fan of the song/artist without stealing it. However I personally feel iffy with sharing my potentials in my national thread now (not as a result of the Travy thing) so I've opted out and will decide my entries on my own :lol:

Honestly, no one is asking anyone to bow down! I'm allowed to be upset that someone took one of my potentials that got quite a lot of great feedback in my thread. I'm not trying to genuinely say that you (or whoever got it) stole it from me because the song is huge in Asia and worldwide right now (the song/single album went #1 in South Korea within 24 hours, so I know I cant have been the only one to hear it). I'm also sure you weren't trying to be malicious about any of this, but that doesn't change how I feel about the situation at all. Regardless of if it was legitimately stolen from me or not, it feels like it was stolen from me because of how excited I was to send it and it just sucks. It's a shitty situation altogether that I should have just avoided after seeing how many other countries showed an interest in it as well. So I guess I'm partially at fault myself.

 

But it's irrelevant at this point because no matter how anyone feels about this whole messy situation, whoever submitted it first got it. The end. I just hope that person has a strong backup planned in case all this interest and discussion about the song gets it vetoed. It would be a shame for such a great song to be left out of the contest!

I also won't be posting potentials in my thread again, I didn't get much feedback (apart from Bré and mdh - cheers again guys!) I feel for us less active members, people aren't as inclined to pop into our thread - honestly, this isn't meant as shade - and therefore we don't actually get he feedback we are asking for.

If people can work out what you are sending from the teaser, it is indeed not allowed.

 

I've thought of teasing numerous songs but teasing just one song is asking to get into trouble.

We must remember though that posting songs in your national thread doesn't mean you have automatic rights to a song. If it was stolen out of the national thread, that's a different story and very underhand but otherwise it's probably a coincidence, I know I haven't been avidly checking everyone else's national threads to check if they have my entry there.

a) I didn't send 'Boombayah' I sent a different song from that artist as I have now learnt.

b) I have been in Borneo for the past two weeks so have had no internet / better things to do than check everyone's personal threads to see what they were sending. Two nights ago was the first night I had time and internet access to search for potentials and I came across 'Whistle' so decided to enter it.

 

There is obviously NO WAY of knowing if I did find the artist through his thread, all you need is trust in fellow posters and I can categorically confirm that I did not peep his thread until Lotti posted about him in this thread earlier today so people can believe what they want.

 

I have back-ups anyway because my artist was taken before I or Travis got to confirm them.

It is quite a harsh entrance into the contest for Travis, and I sincerely hope it doesn't put him off entering anyway, because away from all these politics (which seem to becoming more and more frequent as the months go by?) the contest is heaps of fun and you make so many new musical discoveries. Stick around please!
