London, Dec. 28 (ANI): Snow Patrol's hit 'Chasing Cars' has been voted the UK's favourite track of all time in a new poll by Virgin Radio.

The song is the third single from Snow Patrol's fourth album 'Eyes Open', which was released in July 2006 in the country. It won the top position by beating American alternative rock band Goo Goo Dolls' hit number 'Iris', which came in second in the poll.

On the third position was U2's 1991 hit rock ballad 'One', which was voted as having Britain's Best Lyric.

According to the Sun, the fourth position was obtained by famous British rock band Oasis' song 'Wonderwall', which was at number 99 in the UK's list of best-selling singles in 2005, and frequently appears in "best-of" single polls.

The list of the nation's 500 best tracks was made according to votes cast by Virgin Radio listeners. (ANI)

Snow Patrol keep their eyes open

British rockers benefit from TV placements

http://www.corrieretandem.com/viewstory.php?storyid=6910

The power of television indeed. If a band or singer gets one of their songs inserted into a hit TV show, the spin-off potential is enormous. For proof, just ask British modern rock band Snow Patrol.

Their imminent ascent to the upper ranks of rock stardom was clearly apparent when their third album, 2004's Final Straw, sold over two million copies worldwide. Their career trajectory has recently accelerated via new CD Eyes Open and placement of its songs in a couple of medical dramas. First came E.R. and then, crucially, their single "Chasing Cars" was featured in the closing scene of the second season finale of hit TV show Grey's Anatomy.

Tracked down in Paris for a recent interview, drummer Jonny Quinn told Tandem that "series like that and The O.C. seem to be a way for people to get into your songs." He chuckles at the suggestion that his band's lush and emotional material has become a score for heart surgery. "That's weird, isn't it. I've seen the episodes, and it was almost as if they'd written the script around the words. That was pretty interesting. We actually had cast members from both series at our L.A. show. They didn't know each other so we introduced them!"

"Counting Cars" resonated with audiences, and it has become a huge Top 5 single in the U.S. (and Canada). To capitalize on its momentum, Snow Patrol have been touring long and hard since last summer. "We're at that what day is it and where are we stage!," Quinn admits.

"It's been great that it is taking off in so many different countries and that just means you have to tour a lot. We've got two weeks off soon and that will seem like a lifetime. We didn't know how big America was until we did all the touring. We sure do now, and sometimes it was 800 miles between gigs. Every time we went back it was growing, so you could see the work was paying off. That makes it worthwhile. If we kept going back and weren't getting any bigger, that'd be demoralizing." Next month the band head to Australia and New Zealand for shows, and word is they'll play some Canadian dates after that.

Snow Patrol Charityhttp://www.uncut.co.uk/news/snow_patrol/news/9337

Snow Patrol will be donating the proceeds from their next single “Open Your Eyes†to a long-term Save The Children’s campaign, to help standards of education in war-torn countries.

The rockers will giving 10% of royalties to boost the campaign, and the band’s record label Polydor, have also shown their charitable side by agreeing to match the donation.

Gary Lightbody explained why they have chosen to back the Save The Children’s Rewrite The Future campaign, saying, "The donation from this single will help, but it is also about putting pressure on governments to open their eyes and their pockets and provide enough funding to make sure all children get a chance to go to school."

A spokesman for the charity, Ben Hewitt, has expressed his delight at having Snow Patrol on board, saying, "Having Britain's biggest selling band supporting one of Save the Children's key campaigns keeps the issue alive. We need to keep the momentum generated by Make Poverty History. By helping children now we set them up for the future."

Snow Patrol are renowned for supporting humanitarian causes. They have previously supported Amnesty International’s Make Some Noise campaign.

The group also appeared in London at Live8 in 2005.

"Open Your Eyes" is due for release on February 12.

THE RAZZ: GARY'S MOVIE SECRET

Exclusive Snow Patrol's frontman has lined up track from big new film

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/tm_headl...-name_page.html

SNOW PATROL frontman Gary Lightbody is keeping fans guessing about his work on a big movie soundtrack.

Gary, who is up for three Brit nominations with the rest of the Snow Patrol guys, revealed last week that he has been working on a feature film as part of his solo project with producer Garret Jacknife Lee.

He and Jacknife returned to the Grouse Lodge studio in Ireland to record the song and Gary said: "You'll be the first to know officially which movie when we've definitely been confirmed.

"It is something we're very excited to be asked to be involved in as we've been fans since childhood."

Yesterday, fans on the star's website were taking guesses at what film it will be - with everything from Indiana Jones, The Simpsons and Star Wars in the running.

Gary, who has had a huge year following the success of best-selling album Eyes Open, says we won't be able to hear the final cut of his solo new work, Listen... Tanks, until the completion of Snow Patrol'sMarch/April tour.

He also talked about his recent songwriting project for Nicole Scherzinger, of The Pussycat Dolls, who is featuring the track on her solo album.

He said: "I've written loads of songs for a lot of different people - dance, electro, folk - but never for a pop singer.

"Jacknife Lee produced it so it was in his safe hands and she gave a beautiful vocal performance. I hope no one else gets their hands on it, production-wise, as it's great the way it is, but I'm finding out that these pop records are sometimes made by committee."

Snow Patrol are already in London where they've been rehearsing for the Brits awards. But despite being up for Best British Group, Best British Album and Best Single for Chasing Cars, they're not planning on a big after party - because they have an early flight to Australia the next morning.

Gary said: "I hope it's not too hot because we'll die.

"We've been stuck in one miserable winter touring in Europe, so Australia is going to be a great breath of fresh air on all accounts." The guys have also thrown their clout behind a new multi-purpose studio facility to encourage local talent in Belfast.

Gary said: "We've had an amazing reaction to the initial stages of the project and have secured some of the money we need and a marvellous building in which to house the facility."

McCLELLAND SPURNS SNOW PATROL

Movie & Entertainment News provided by World Entertainment News Network (www.wenn.com)

http://www.pr-inside.com/mcclelland-spurns...trol-r93083.htm

2007-04-13 18:50:14 -

Former Snow Patrol bass player MARK McCLELLAND has slammed his former bandmates for never explaining his sacking from the band.

McClelland - now a member of LITTLE DOSES - claims he has yet to speak with frontman Gary Lightbody, two years after his departure.

The 31-year-old says, "It's still an open book but I haven't had any contact with Gary.

"I still don't know the reasons why I had to leave the band, no one has told me."

Wasn't it because Gary wanted all the credit for Snow Patrol and he saw McClelland as a threat as he was the co founder of SP.

Snow Patrol will be performing at this Summers Live Earth concert in London.

The concert that is set to take place on 7th July 2007. Its purpose it to save the world and that. You know, this planet is getting too polluted so I'm guessing they are trying to tell us to recycle, walk or cycle instead of drive, turn lights off AND DON'T LEAVE THE TV ON STAND BY ARGH!!!

The UK concert planned to take place at the new Wembley Stadium, will boast appearances from some of the biggest bands and artists in the world including Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Madonna, Foo Fighters, Beastie Boys and Geneisis.

Although the band are also set to headline at Oxegen Festival in Ireland that evening, the Patrol have signed up for the concert and will perform at Wembley early in the afternoon. :o busy boys!

You may as well! Get your parents to book it as a birthday present! Treat yourself!

Most of the artists playing seem to be American artists. Not many British artists seem to be lined up!
