April 28, 20178 yr I thought it was a fab performance - I really hope she's on for a top 15 placing, is that too much to ask for?
April 28, 20178 yr She could squeeze in there with a mid-top 10 jury result, but it'll depend if the juries gravitate towards her or if there will be other female ballads that qualify that will split the vote. Can't see it getting out of the bottom 5 in the televote though whether it performs 3rd or 23rd unless the staging looks really phenomenal, it just is not instant enough and memorable enough as a song to do that. If only 1 or 2 of Georgia, Albania, Finland, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Denmark, Malta (and others I've probably forgotten) get through - which is quite possible - then she could get quite a high jury score.
April 28, 20178 yr She was as flawless as per on Graham Norton tonight. It felt the backing track was really sped up so she had to keep up, a big ask given its a very vocal-heavy track as it is. She pulled it off with ease. If the visuals are on point and she gets a decent slot in the running order, I think she will get a spot on the left hand side (granted were depending on the juries). April 28, 20178 yr I agree with Ryan, I think our final is, in effect, the Friday night rather than Saturday Night since this is going to be completely reliant on the juries to get most of its points (save for the usual 8 or so televotes that we can amass from Ireland/Australia/Malta at a bare minimum). The sound mix was slightly off but then again a TV studio and the stadium are apples and oranges as sound quality goes. Minor point is that she played it out to the audience like a theatre again like the national final rather than looking at the camera but that can *hopefully* be the point of the rehearsals. My worry is that the juries only give it tepid support and the low televote pulls it down to like 25th which I think is a very real possibility knowing the BBC's staging credentials and if it gets a poor draw.
April 29, 20178 yr I noticed that she avoided looking at the camera too so I agree she needs to put her X Factor head on rather than her musical theatre head on once we get to Kyiv!
April 29, 20178 yr It's so hard to tell with this but I think it's quite likely she'll do a Joe and Jake. It's a professional, decent song and Lucie is a fantastic singer, but it's hardly going to have people rushing to the phones (this is the sort of sound I should love by all rights but it's only low top ten in my ranking, therefore I'd never vote for it) and there's plenty of strong jury fodder this year that means this may only finish 15th or so on that metric, if not lower. May 10, 20178 yr If we do badly then the UK press are going to say it's because we left the EU. If we do brilliantly then the UK press are going to say it's because we left the EU, and Europe are trying to coax us back in :P It's like how "Iraq" was blamed for years and years post-Jemini (not at all to do with crap unmemorable songs, no...), and even way back in 2000 people were saying Nicki French flopped because the UK didn't adopt the Euro as its currency or something. Ironically the first full contest I watched was in 2002 - when we came third - and poor Jessica Garlick didn't get much attention at all, if anything people dismissed her because she didn't win!! I suppose Katrina was only five years ago at the time so third was (ridiculously) seen as an average result then.
May 10, 20178 yr If Joe and Jakes well meaning but very basic and amateur performance can score 17th place with the juries, in reality this should be dumped high in the top ten. It's the only performane that gives me the same chills as Aminata and Jamala and we know how well they turned out!
May 10, 20178 yr I placed an each way bet on this the other day after the rehearsals. I feel more and more confident about Lucie coming top 10, I'd be shocked if it isn't a jury top 5.
May 10, 20178 yr It's like the Oscars - people love a "comeback" from the wilderness, Norway 1985 and Finland 2006 being two huge examples. The UK and Portugal are in a great place right now to do the best they've done in years, possibly best ever in Portugal's case.
