I may be in minority, but I don't understand the Ed Sheeran phenomenon. Regardless, I hope his dominance on the charts will subside a little when TT releases Wonderland.

They have the Carpool Karaoke, Red Nose Day lined up for when the album is released - maybe that will help a bit.

I like Ed Sheeran, not all his stuff but its like i really like about every 1 in 3 of his singles, im happy he is doing so well and the records he is breaking. Here in Ireland this week he occupies the full top 16 with the tracks of his new album and has a further 9 songs in the top 100, in total he occupies a quarter of the top 100 having 25 songs in it, he also has 3 positions in the top 5 and an ep at number 39 in the album chart.

I hope he has huge sales again this week as the more that buy it this week the less that should do the following and give Take That a stronger chance of getting the number 1. This is the first time in a long time im not confident of them getting to number 1 with the album. I know it wont happen here in Ireland, Three has a peak of number 6 and none of the albums since they reformed have entered at number 1 here apart from Progress. Beautiful World and The Circus climbed to number 1 here after they appeared on the Late Late Show which was a few weeks after the releases of each album plus Giants has only made number 86 here.

Good thing TT postponed the album by a week, because Drake is releasing his album March 18.
Thankfully Drake isnt a massive player in the album chart, Views did well but for someone having such big hits the album has sold around 450,000 copies to date so i would like to think Take That would beat Drake to number 1.

TT would definitely beat Drake. There's not many artists that would beat TT under normal circumstances
With those that could beat them though is the problem as Ed Sheeran is one of them.

The Late Late Show has been pushed to the week before the album. Do we know when the Carpool Karaoke is yet?

Ed Sheeran has sold 200k so far this week..this is going to be a big challenge for TT if they don't get the promo right. Perhaps they should have released it in Feb, a week after Giants...

Ed Sheeran will probably sell close to 300,00 this week. I hoped he would have higher sales this week to reduce sales for the following. If Take That promote they will be in with a chance but if they dont promote they wont be in the running at all.

I have read that the Carpool Karaoke is for Red Nose Day and the UK. Isn't it shown in the USA?

I am sure TT will have a number one album based on pre orders. However it maybe time to separate the charts between streaming charts and sales charts. Ed though is great in both, but it would be less boring with the singles

Just seen a clip of the Giants video...looks quite underwhelming and not much thought behind it. Hopefully it looks better in its entirety

Nope, not much better, Jay :( It looks so low budget.

Is it me or does it feel like no one bothered with this? It's a bit like they knew they had to release one so let's do it quickly and on the cheap...

Realistically though it doesn't work like that. In real terms, the more he sells in a week, it'll continue a steady percentage decrease.

As for the video, that is ultra cheap and nasty.

I feel totally the same. It is ever so dis-heartening.

I can see this album opening at #2 with around 50k or less, possibly. This is their first album since their comeback where there seems to be zero hype :( They'll no way get past Ed.

I think they were doomed with whatever lead single they released in the streaming era, but the more I listen to it the more I realise that Giants is not quite the comeback single I was hoping for. It's strong anthemic second single material for sure but I would have loved a big classic ballad for the first single. And yes, the video is really weak/cheap.

The hype is certainly at zero level, this combined with a feeling they are not overly interested in the campaign is making for a very flat comeback. Giants is a good song but not on the level they needed to mark their return, its forgettable and is the style of song that will be well forgotten in the years ahead.

To make any dents in the streaming deficits they suffer with singles they needed strong promotion to at the least try and combat it but as we know, outside releasing the cd single no work was done to promote. That said, i really should hold back judgement until i see how they approach the release of the album next week, but at this point i am not holding out much hope. Wonderland could possibly be their first studio album not to make number 1 since their debut Take That and Party.

I really would have loved if they added another number 1 album to their discography.

If it doesn't make it on its opening week, hopefully there'll be opportunities when they tour or do the audience with etc.

They weren't doomed. They just aren't making good music anymore - good as in having wide appeal. So, yes, I agree that Giants wasn't the right song, but they are about the most famous British band, second to the Beatles. They have only themselves to blame if they have lost their ability to make a song that people get excited about.

Well, let's not go overboard here, their last lead single went #1, so did the album, and in the meantime they had a top 25 and a top 15 single in the era of streaming...

They are still making good music, the issue is the lax approach to promoting it (perhaps it's an expectation that people will buy it automatically).
