Removed Robbie song makes comeback

06 October 2006 - 15:59:52

Music Week

"The Robbie Williams-penned song The 90s, which was last month pulled from review copies of his forthcoming album Rudebox, has now been returned to the album line-up, after undergoing alterations to its lyrics.

The track was pulled from all reviews copies after Williams himself made direct references to the songs lyrics in an interview, prompting former manager Nigel Martin-Smith to enter talks with a top libel lawyer, intent on making Williams withdraw his allegations in a court of law.

In a statement at the time, a source close to Martin Smith said, Nigel has always kept a dignified silence despite all of Robbie's remarks but the singer has over stepped the mark this time and Nigel is both upset and angry.

The song will now be included with certain lyrics edited out. Williams new single Lovelight is released on November 13."

I'm delighted it will still be on the album but disgusted that bast*rd got the words taken out :puke2:

Yes, apparently Robbie now sings

' Oh Nigel is a lovely man. He really is a honey.

So sweet, so kind, so full of joy.

I'll give him all my money'

Tra La La..........

I am just happy that the track is still on the album. :cheer:

guess we always knew something had to happen, either the track removed or edited, I am more than happy that the case has been resolved and they have gone for the least drastic option.

Just read the lyrics, are they really those. Sarcastic Robbie Yeah! he will get his word in somehow.

No one can write lyrics quite like Robbie, sucha way with words

Wonder if they'll just bleep out the offending lines?

So I guess the 90s has not been either removed or amended. Hence the writ being served.

Off to Court then. :o

Robbie is sued for £300k

October 07, 2006

THE bitter legal battle between ROBBIE WILLIAMS and his ex-manager has taken another nasty turn – throwing fresh doubt on whether his new album will be out on time.

Yesterday, Nigel Martin-Smith served a High Court writ against Robbie and his record label Chrysalis, demanding £300,000 in damages over a track on his forthcoming Rudebox CD.

Nigel took the dramatic action after threatening to sue the singer if a song called The 90s is released.

I can’t print the offending lyrics for legal reasons — but Nigel believes they are highly defamatory to him and untrue.

The album is due out on October 23 — so Robbie’s legal team are going to have to move very quickly if they are to avoid it being delayed.

The High Court writ follows a bitter feud between the pair — and Robbie has quite clearly not forgiven the former TAKE THAT manager all these years later.

Robster was sued for breach of contract after he left Take That and has nursed harsh feelings about Nigel ever since.

Now that writs have been issued, Nigel’s legal team have to serve them on Robbie and his record company.

And once the notices have been acknowledged by both parties, copies of the writs will become available from the court in London.

A procedural judge will hear the initial stages of the action against Chrysalis Records, while his colleague will hear the early stages of the claim against Robbie.

Both judges have the power to either strike out the action or rule the court cases should go ahead, and to decide on how they should proceed and what sort of evidence must be produced.

That could all go on for weeks or even months, which would be a real headache for Robbie and his label.

A source said: “This could seriously hamper the chances of Robbie’s album coming out on time.

“The major problem is that thousands of pounds have already been spent on an international marketing campaign to promote the album. From the record label’s point of view the album has to come out on time.â€

I reckon Robbie will eventually end up removing one of the lines from the song so that the CD can be released.

But The 90s simply MUST stay on the album because I’ve heard it and it is fantastic.

Take That fans will love it — and it would be a travesty if it didn’t make the final cut.

Ok. Now I'm totally confused.

EXCLUSIVE: TAKE THAT BACK

Robbie forced to withdraw insulting lyrics from album

By Caroline Hedley

TROUBLED Robbie Williams has been forced to change insulting lyrics on his new album in case his former manager sues.

The changes have caused "huge headaches" for his record label weeks before the album, Rudebox, is released.

They are desperate to avert legal action from Nigel Martin Smith, who managed Robbie in Take That.

But despite the changes, the singer may face a writ for defamation after he failed to withdraw his allegations.

On a track called The 90s Robbie brands Nigel an "evil man" and accuses him of ripping him off.

But a music industry source has told the Mirror Nigel kept "meticulous records" of his accounts when he was guiding the success of Take That, who recently re-formed without Robbie, 32. The source said yesterday: "Nigel always had a feeling Robbie could be problematic and he kept every detail of how much each was paid and when.

"The label knew this and did the sensible thing in insisting that any defamatory lyrics were immediately removed from the Rudebox album.

"Otherwise Nigel was going to seek an injunction to stop its release.

"He's put up with Robbie slagging him off for years and he's had enough."

Despite the album's revision, Robbie's reluctance to take back his claims means Nigel could still sue.

The insider said: "Details of the original lyrics have leaked. Robbie even mouthed them on stage at a recent gig.

"It might be funny for him but for Nigel, who still works in the music industry, questioning his credibility is a serious issue."

Robbie fell out with Nigel, 45, after he quit Take That in 1995. Nigel successfully sued Robbie for breach of contract.

The singer went on to brand his old manager the "spawn of Satan".

Last month The Mirror revealed Robbie is being treated for depression.

He recently axed the Asian leg of his Close Encounters tour blaming "exhaustion".

The star is also facing a lawsuit from songwriter Ashley Hamilton, who claims the track Madonna, on the Rudebox album was stolen from him.

A spokesman for Robbie said "No comment" last night.

He is a horrible specimen :puke2:

i agree nigel isnt worth the oxygen he breathes  :arrr:  :arrr:

I'm wondering...

Trying to make sense of all the conflicting info coming out.

Here's my best guess (probably well wrong)-

I think EMI did bow to the pressure of legal action and had a couple of lines in the 90s amended. I think the amended version is going on Rudebox and the album will be released.

However, I think nasty Nige is still pissed off because the lyrics were 'out there' before he could start legal action (printed in some papers etc) so the general public already knows what Robbie is accusing him of. I think it's because of this that he's pursuing damages. Ie as far as he sees it his character has already been, ahem, damaged  by these 'scurrilous allegations'. And he wants money for this damage.

I dont think what is on the album is actually the issue now.

I think if it was still on the album he would be seeking a lot more than £300,000.

But I don't really know.

Mweh. He'll probably walk away with £300,000 in damages and £10 million in Court costs. The libel laws in the UK are a joke. <_<
I read something in the Sun today, that the album might be delayed due to the above report.

jups, I sort of figured out the same as you. That Nigel is still p***ed off because the lyrics, whether they are on the album or not, have damaged his reputation. But why is there a mention of the album possibly being delayed - if THE lyrics are not on there, why would there be a problem with releasing the album ?

I don't get this and I f***ing hate not knowing what's going on. I wish the RW people would put a statement on their site but I guess they will be the last to tell us, we'll probably hear something from Vicky or the lovely 3am girls first <_<

Seems we may be correct Monsoon

Robbie removes insulting lyrics from album

Saturday, October 7 2006, 14:34 BST - by Daniel Kilkelly

Robbie Williams has removed insulting lyrics about his former manager from new album Rudebox.

The singer was facing legal action after it emerged that he accused Nigel Martin-Smith of ripping him off during his Take That days in a track called The 90s.

"Nigel always had a feeling Robbie could be problematic and he kept every detail of how much each was paid and when," a source told The Mirror. "The label knew this and did the sensible thing in insisting that any defamatory lyrics were immediately removed from the Rudebox album.

"Otherwise Nigel was going to seek an injunction to stop its release. He's put up with Robbie slagging him off for years and he's had enough."

However Robbie's refusal to publicly retract his original claims may mean that the matter has yet to be settled.

The insider added: "Details of the original lyrics have leaked. Robbie even mouthed them on stage at a recent gig. It might be funny for him but for Nigel, who still works in the music industry, questioning his credibility is a serious issue."

im sorry can someone help me please...what credibility would that be?

Edited by Osiris

I laughed at that part too. Remind me- exactly what does he currently do in 'the music industry'?

jups, that thing you posted from digitalspy is not really news, is it ? It mainly quotes the Mirror article, doesn't it ?

I remember reading once that Nigel is involved in a new casting show on Channel 4, apparently they want to put together a new Take That or something like that. I think it was also said that Channel 4's lawyers were supporting NMS in the whole issue with Rob.

So I guess that's the only way he "still works in the music industry" right now -_-

I think various articles are all being re-hashed and mixed up. The truth is being lost in the process.

Guess we'll just need to wait until the 23rd and see if a CD actually appears.
