Tilted is definitely one of the best hits of the year, still amazed it was a UK hit, it strikes me as far too...eccentric for that, great to see it here. Also nice to Roses high up someone else's list, how I wish this and Closer could switch chart runs.

(also I did notice two of my BJSC entries in here earlier! Ty *.)

Here's the last song on the countdown to have never made the Top 20, though of course it had impressive longevity. The two raps really improve it and it's a great song anyway. Aluna's sound is just brilliant as I said in their last entry. It took a while for me to get into this as it sounds a lot like 'I'm In Control' but now I think it's a lot better.

Commentary

Sigala soon released 'Give Me Your Love' to follow-up 'Say You Do', and it was a return to the great house sound that got Sigala to where he is. It does nothing new but sounded great in the summer, and I am a sucker for a Nile Rodgers guitar lick plus John Newman's general iconicness. The song will also go down in UK chart history as being the last top 10 single to have not been released OA/OS.

Finally this year MØ was no longer just the girl who sings Lean On but had her own solo smash with the brilliant 'Final Song' which really has everything a pop song needs. Unique voice, great production and a killer chorus.

Loving Ain't My Fault, Final Song and Mean What I Mean since I last commented! It was great to see MØ break through as a soloist rather than doing a Bebe Rexha and only charting as a feature, so hopefully she can quietly brush Drum under the carper and smash with her next release!

We now get to the first #1 of nine in the top 50, and the only one-weeker of the year which in hindsight didn't deserve to be a #1 due to its complete lack of longevity afterwards. It's a lovely song though and was the first indie-pop song I sent to BJSC. The production is just so lush which really puts this above other 'blogpop' bands.

Such a good rap song, I love his flow on this and it has one of the best beats in trap. It proved to be divisive on the forum but Kanye signed this for a reason. I'm quite amazed it managed to be such a huge hit in the UK as often it's only the US that gets these hits, but I'd put that down to the catchiness of the 'panda' hook. The breakdowns in the middle where it all goes quiet are also really good and something you don't usually get with this type of music, so I'm not too surprised this stood out amongst the other US rap hits of the year.

Surprisingly Mark Knight hadn't made any chart impact for me before this year but when he released club anthem 'Yebisah' that was of course going to get a lot of love here. It's a full-on house instrumental with a simple piano riff but it's all executed perfectly. It took a while but eventually spent nine weeks in the top 10. If you love a bangin' choon take a listen.

This one took a long time to peak, one of the biggest growers in my chart this year though eventually spent four non-consecutive weeks at #10. Maybe it should've peaked higher but my chart is a cruel bitch. It's a brilliant song that leaves you wanting more though. Whilst Frenship's vocals aren't all that brilliant, Emily Warren's voice really fits the song so I'm glad she's very prominent in it. Would've been nice if this had actually gone beyond being a Spotify hit but it wasn't sent to radio.

Adding extra i's seemed to be a thing this year with Desiigner and Kiiara and now here is the second of the two. This one I really like for the minimalist production, reverb and vocal chopping effects. Kiiara's soft quiet vocal is nice also, and altogether it makes for an unconventional pop hit which I love. Didn't quite make the UK top 40 but was big in America.

Here's 'Fast Car' again but this time the non-hit version from Tobtok, except in my chart where it was a big hit. Why do I prefer it to Jonas Blue's version then? The singer has a much nicer tone, the guitar riff from the original is kept, and there's a brilliant change to a minor chord during the post-chorus instrumental (a small feature but really adds to the interest and musicality). Tobtok has another entry yet to come with follow-up 'Aber'.

It's been a big year for TheFatRat, starting with three killer singles all which appear in the EOY and ending with a 4-track EP, with some songs we may see in next year's chart. 'No No No' was quite an unexpected turn for him, with him leaving glitch-hop for trap, but it's definitely not your standard sub-par trap record as it's got a great melody to it (which amusingly references Shia LeBoeuf who says 'no'

in movies). Keep producing the greats Sir Rat of Fat.

Yay for Capsize! I totally echo what you say, the male vocals really aren't all that exciting and I doubt I'd like the song so much without Emily Warren.

Tobtok's Fast Car still sounds great to my ears, River's vocals just suit the song much more than Dakota's I think if we're comparing the two covers, plus I love the really chilled out production.

From your top 40, I'm hoping to see Lush Life and The Ocean nice and high, plus Sex I guess for that partial TARO Bellamia recognition http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/uploads/group_images/of_18_icon.gif

YAS CHRISTINE
it's a great tune!

In My Head is brilliant, the drop in that track is totally unforgettable and I still give it a listen quite often! Definitely one of the standout tracks of BJSC 88
if only more people thought that way it would've smashed!!

Hi Dan

Christine and the Queens really took me by surprise this year, I had seen praise for her on the forum but wasn't expecting her to be so good but when I saw how she performed live on the Graham Norton (and future TV performances), it's kinda hard not to fall in love with the music that goes with it. I wasn't aware of 'Tilted' until it shot up the charts so I'm glad for that also.

'Lush Life' will be very high up, I really loved that.

Ty *.)

I do like it when the UK public make the less conventional songs hits, it sometimes happens.

Would've been nice if 'Roses' was a bigger chart hit but top 20 isn't bad for what it is.

Do keep sending the goods to BJSC! *.

Loving Ain't My Fault, Final Song and Mean What I Mean since I last commented! It was great to see MØ break through as a soloist rather than doing a Bebe Rexha and only charting as a feature, so hopefully she can quietly brush Drum under the carper and smash with her next release!
Yeah she can do so much better than 'Drum' so I hope they just treat that as a promotional single and have a killer song waiting.

Yay for Capsize! I totally echo what you say, the male vocals really aren't all that exciting and I doubt I'd like the song so much without Emily Warren.

Hopefully we hear more of Emily on dance tracks this year, although she does more songwriting than singing it seems.

At least one of those songs mentioned will appear in the top 20~

thanks guys~

OMFG some of those in that 50-65 section

SAY YOU DO!!! (Say You DON'T have it as low as that... especially below Give Me Your Love :P)

Stay is definitely my fave Kygo track now, has eclipsed Firestone by virtue of a better vocal.

At Night is absolutely sensational (and indeed FAR superior to Never Forget You). Huge contender for my #1 that.

Roses will be right up there as well, stunning song

Of course it's wonderful to see Feel so high up, probably will remain my best ever result & what a song to do it with!

Elsewhere the other highlights are Panda & Gold, 2 of the best American crossover hits (ok the latter wasn't really a hit but meh...)

Roll on the top 40 (Imany hype :cheer:)

Dan :hi:

Yay at someone actually putting the Tobtok version above the Jonas Blue version, completely agree with you there. I don't find the original massively interesting but this managed to add a bit of life into it and the vocals are definitely nicer. A shame this never took off at all and the JB version took all the attention.

Gold took a little while to grow but I ended up loving the choppy vocals on it especially and it's really catchy despite not having a clue what she's even saying. I wish it had taken off in the UK in the same way it did in the US :(

:D

Nice to see Panda make an appearance, was a great surprise to see that become a hit officially, definitely won't be seeing anything like then again for a while! :D

Yebisah  One of my best performing entries, such a brilliant anthem and sounds absolutely bangin' on stereo speakers, definitely one I'll still be revisiting long into the future
