I did not just see someone saying that Emily could sustain an Emeli Sande-type career?!

The reason Emeli's ballads are hits is because they are massive ballads with 'wow' vocals. I don't know many female artists with the limited vocal range and in the same genre as Emily that have gone on to have a huge career.

to steal an iconic phrase from some user i can't remember, Emily sounds like an asthmatic lamb

Matt Terry is the only contestant this year I can see having a proper hit, and he's clearly being set up to win anyway so that'll probably happen.

No that isn't what I said at all?

People are criticising Emily's samey-ness, but samey-ness can sell records. Several artists release ballad after ballad (Emeli, Adele, Sam Smith with exceptions of course)and sell lots of records, so being samey shouldn't be a criticism when it is a samey-ness that is still relevant. We shouldn't have to push Emily to do an uptempo when she wouldn't have to do so in the "real world". Of course Emily won't have a career to the scale of Emeli, but you don't have to have uptempo songs to sell records.

On a slight different angle, I think Emily should be pursuing an Amy Macdonald type route. She should have made having a guitar every week her "samey-ness" and her USP, rather than her arguably uniquely vulnerable vocals. Ex's and Oh's from judges houses or even Girls Just Wanna Have Fun at 6 chair should have been her basis for her route in the live shows.

all those artists (bar sam cus f*** that c**t) have something interesting about them though. Emily has nothing going for her at all.
Well that's a matter of opinion as like you say, you don't like Sam. Emily is an artist that will have a market out there in my personal opinion. It may be quite niche, but if she won X Factor I'd be more confident of her first proper single going top 10 next Autumn than I would with any other contestant bar perhaps 5AM.
I actually think (as much as I dislike her) Emily would sell more records than the guy who is obviously going to win, Matt.

Interesting and shocking movements in the eliminations market. Saara is on the brink of being only the 4th favourite to be eliminated, 5AM and Honey have been shortening while Saara has been lengthening in the past couple of hours. Also Saara is now above Honey in the favourites to win market, putting her 4th there too.

In the bottom 2 combo market it is Ryan and Honey that is the favourite combo, followed by Ryan and 5AM. Ryan and Saara are only the 3rd most betted on bottom 2 combo. I'm really surprised by this, I'll be intrigued to see if Saara starts shortening again tomorrow.

One final post, just rewatched Saara's performance and I wish to retract my earlier "underwhelming" statement. I think I prepared myself for endless big note after big note, but in fact the way she controlled her vocals was perfection. There wasn't a single shouty note, she pitched it absolutely beautifully. While Matt showed off his vocal range in his song, there was no emotion. Saara poured emotion into her song, and the golden rain pyros were winner worthy. Of course she won't win, but the understated nature of the performance was actually spot on despite me being initially uncertain.

That said I'll still be shocked if she escapes the bottom 2 as much as it is she deserves to!

Saara showed off excellent control tonight, that's exactly what I've been wanting her to do since her stunning rendition of Alive in the sing-off and I'm really glad she's had a chance to reign it in just for a week during the lives.
I don't see much hit potential in any ofthem this year tbh  I mean I'm sure Honey G would get one novelty hit, but most of them would probably get one top 20 a year later when they won. Even say Matt, I can only see him doing a James Arthur's first era at best, but he won't have the random renaissance
I wouldn't be surprised if Ryan was safe, after Louis's comments about Matt being better than him. Maybe an Emily and Honey bottom 2?
I think Ryan's wiggle room is gone now, even if he isn't bottom of the vote (he should be) then he'll probably be second bottom. I'm going to say Saara will be there too, but it could really be anyone other than Matt.

I agree, this is why it reminds me of Sam Baileys year. Completely dated with song choices and not much potential in anyone really.

I think I'd rather Honey G wasn't in the bottom two this week. She'll be up against Ryan, survive and then end up with the rebound vote next week
Sensational yet again, those moves were off the scale.

Yass Honey G Queen! :cheer:

When did Ruth Lorenzo go out?

I think that will be Saara's position in Post Brexit Britain tbh.
