January 3, 20178 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Anne-Marie%20-%20Alarm.png 36 Anne-Marie - Alarm - 24-32-X-3-4-6-11-19-23-29-32-34-X (11 non-consecutive weeks) I think this is one of the songs that sums up what I love most about following the official chart. Anne-Marie released Alarm in the middle of the year, I checked it out having rather liked its predecessor Do It Right (although I didn't love it). Alarm sounded promising from the iTunes preview so I decided to download it, and as you can see in the above chart run, it nabbed a couple of weeks in my top 40. It resurged around the time of its commercial success a month or two later. I never expected it to go anywhere near the official top 40, so it was great to see it not just manage that, but ultimately reach #16 and spend months hanging around! I was really rooting for it and this has a positive knock-on effect on how much I listened to the track too. Alarm is full of promise and personality, making Anne-Marie one of the most exciting new talents around. She still has her Clean Bandit collaboration, the megasmash that is Rockabye, to come in the countdown, and I have no doubts that she'll be dominating 2017's EOY! r3RXHOTMmLw http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Hailee%20Steinfeld%20-%20Starving.png 35 Hailee Steinfeld & Grey - Starving (feat. Zedd) - 27-4-10-13-22-35-X-23-12-3-5-9-14-21-28-39-… (15+ non-consecutive weeks) One surprise hit after the other in this section! I've had an eye on Hailee's music career since she released Love Myself in 2015 - I quite liked that track but it didn't manage to make my weekly top 10. The follow-up Rock Bottom, while a good track, fared much worse, only scraping my top 40, so it was a huge surprise when Starving got released and I very quickly fell in love with it. The production is fresh, which isn't always something I can say about Zedd actually, and Hailee sounds great. The verses and the breakdown mix together perfectly too. The track soared to an initial peak of #4 in its second week in my chart, behind fellow new releases Britney Spears' Make Me... and 5SOS's Girls Talk Boys, plus the week before's #1, In My Mind by Maty Noyes. It later had a resurge, much like Alarm, when it started becoming a commercial smash hit, and eventually made it to a new peak of #3. This gave Zedd his highest peaking track since Selena Gomez collaboration I Want You to Know, which also made it to #3, although I'd probably say it's my favourite track Zedd's been involved on now. Really hoping Hailee continues down this route with her next release! xwjwCFZpdns
January 3, 20178 yr Let Me Love You, Alarm and Starving are good picks! Starving was definitely a much needed change in production style for Zedd which I liked. I also expect Anne-Marie will have a good 2017. Starting to get into Touch now too but could be a while before that peaks in my chart.

I 100% agree, I'm pretty excited for what Zedd will offer with his next era if he continues down this route. Breathing Fire sounds like a hit for Anne-Marie when that eventually gets released so I really hope leaving it this long actually pays off! :drama:
January 3, 20178 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/JoJo%20-%20Fk%20Apologies.png 34 JoJo - Fuck Apologies. (feat. Wiz Khalifa) - 17-1-3-4-12-16-21-27-28-35-X-39-X (11 non-consecutive weeks) I've been a fan of JoJo for a long time now, I remember seeing Too Little, Too Late on the music channels all the time in 2007 and whilst I didn't buy it at the time, I finally bought both of her albums a few years later. I played a lot of her music in 2010/11, and by this point it was already a long time since her last album and there wasn't much of a sign of anything else beyond one-off singles such as Disaster (which is amazing). Finally things started moving with last year's tringle (lmao x), and this year's lead single Fuck Apologies., which impressed me right from first listen. The swearing isn't offputting and fits the overall vibe of the track, and Wiz Khalifa's rap slots in really well. It gave JoJo her first #1 in my chart in its first full week, knocking off Major Lazer's Cold Water. Overall, it serves as the perfect introduction to new album Mad Love., mixing some of her old pop roots with the new urban sound she's tried out across the album. Such a shame radio ignored it, it would've been a surefire hit if they got on board. pScpXs7Ysdg http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Frans%20-%20Young%20Like%20Us.png 33 Frans - Young Like Us - 14-1-2-3-8-13-11-19-23-32-24-30-35-39-X (14 weeks) Frans is quite possibly the breakthrough star of the year in my chart. His debut hit If I Were Sorry is still to come and I'll talk about that later, but he followed it up a little while after Eurovision with this track. Young Like Us continues the chilled-out vibe of its predecessor, although it doesn't quite have as much charm. Nonetheless, it's a really nice little track, definitely very catchy, and the choir parts near the end add to the track for sure. In my chart, it stormed to #1 in its first full week, fending off Delta Goodrem's Enough, and whilst it spent less time in the top 10 than If I Were Sorry spent at #1, it got a pretty decent 14 weeks top 40 in the end. Let's hope Frans can keep up the quality with his next release, due this month! p9X35pBMouM

January 4, 20178 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/The%20Tide%20-%20Young%20Love.png 32 The Tide - Young Love - 13-2-4-6-13-22-26-35-X-10-7-9-12-19-25-29-37-X (16 non-consecutive weeks) The Tide make their first appearance of two now, with their introductory single Young Love just missing my top 30. The American boyband gave this track away for free at the end of April, ahead of their shows supporting The Vamps on tour. I was intrigued - I'd seen them live once before (also supporting The Vamps) and quite liked them, so was excited to listen. I was really impressed, the track is pure pop and a perfect singalong track. Frontman Austin does most of the vocals but the start of verse 2, sang by Levi, is my favourite part (he's not just my favourite for looks, you know x). It always goes down a treat live too (I've now heard it live FOUR times  once when they supported The Vamps and three times at their headline gigs ). In my chart, it managed to achieve a #2 peak, behind Frans' If I Were Sorry in its final consecutive week at #1. It fell quite quickly once it peaked, although it returned following their fanfest gigs just a couple of months later, taking its total weeks to a pretty great 16, which puts it firmly into huge hit territory. The Tide still have their first proper single Click My Fingers to come, where will it place? 1LbPnXl3ZwY http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Meghan%20Trainor%20-%20NO.png 31 Meghan Trainor - NO - 14-4-3-5-6-6-7-9-11-11-18-23-30-36-X (14 weeks) Another track that stalled behind Frans! Meghan's NO actually peaked on its third week, unlike most big hits in my chart that seem to peak on week 2 (this is because I type my chart up on Friday nights, and new releases often chart low on less than 24 hours of availablity before climbing high with their first full week). Initially it got stuck behind Frans, Fifth Harmony's Work from Home, and fellow new release Body by Benjamin, although it managed to swap places with the latter a week later! NO is quite firmly my favourite Meghan track these days, which is great considering the Thank You era was pretty underwhelming overall. I love the throwback sound to the early 00s, it reminds me a lot of early Britney hits like (You Drive Me) Crazy and Overprotected, which are in my Britney top 5. I've always been a Meghan fan anyway but this one proved to hold up the best in my affections and unfortunately just misses my end of year top 30. cMTAUr3Nm6I
January 4, 20178 yr Highlights since my last visit: I Found A Girl - this was actually a pretty catchy song & I didn't give it enough of a chance at the time. Definitely prefer it to All Night Stay - superb tropical house song when it was near its peak really, easily his best to date for me now Let Me Love You - again, a song I didn't think much of at first (plus overshadowed by Cold Water) but always enjoy hearing it now Touch - one of their best ever songs, MNEK on production I believe? Probably explains a good deal why  And lastly Starving & NO are both great songs to see turn into hits, just a shame NO couldn't quite crack the top 10!

Thanks very much Dobbo! :D I Found a Girl is a really fun track, I much prefer All Night as this countdown will show but it's still great, and gets way too much hate! Firestone will probably always be my favourite Kygo song but Stay is a comfortable second, great track. You're right, MNEK did produce Touch! I agree it's one of their best ever, could one day rival Secret Love Song as their best I think.
January 4, 20178 yr Author Artists http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Ariana%20Grande.png 3 Ariana Grande Ariana was recommended to me 5 years ago now (!) in 2012, by a poster on here called Jack500. He'd entered her song Put Your Hearts Up into BJSC (before I joined) and recommended it to me in my personal chart at the time. I rather liked it, it led to a #14 debut for the track in my own chart. Never did I imagine, however, that she'd blossom into the dangerous woman we all know and love. I enjoyed Ariana's first era, loved the second (and Problem is my favourite of hers still), and truly adored the third. Things got off to a slightly patchy start with Focus at the end of 2015. Don't get me wrong, I really quite like Focus, it's fun, but it always felt a lot like Problem Pt 2 and didn't show a lot of progression, so I was worried for her third era and that she might not be able to build on everything she achieved in the My Everything era. Thankfully she proved that I had nothing to worry about, as Focus was removed from the album (which I can't complain about, it would sound out of place I think) and the whole concept shifted from Moonlight to Dangerous Woman. The lead single sounded very promising from first listen. The soaring chorus of the title track is its best attribute, and it led it to a #5 peak in my chart, one place higher than Focus (although it got better longevity!). Into You followed next and it was even better than I expected. The chorus is irresistible and the production is on point. The album followed and I was totally blown away. Ari sounded more confident than ever before in both her sound and herself. Dangerous Woman is an incredibly mature R&B/pop album and it's very well thought out, even to the deluxe tracks, which are slotted in between standard edition tracks, as opposed to being leftovers that got tacked on at the end. Side to Side was my instant highlight from the album and it remains my favourite, being her highest track in this countdown, still to come! Ari's well and truly exceeded any expectations that I had for her, and I couldn't be more excited to see her live in May, she's bound to put on a great show. It's been equally amazing to see her get the commercial success still this time. Side to Side has become her biggest hit since Problem, while both Dangerous Woman and Into You were big hits also, and let's not forget the #1 album! Recommendation 8mL-uPIfwco
January 4, 20178 yr Hiya Joseph Never been a huge fan of Tom Odell really but both Concrete and Magnetised really surprised me and I'm shocked at how much of a fan I've been of his singles recently. They both have lovely choruses and his voice is really nice on both, shame the album wasn't more of a commercial success :( Woop at Touch getting sucha high placing from so few weeks up until the deadline, I think it's going to be VERY high on my 2017 list. It is the definition of utter banger and it is so damn catchy. I'm really hoping the video will be another great one and I hope we get it soon too  Alarm took waaaay too long to grown on me but I ended up absolutely loving it in the end and really like her as an artist at the moment too. She comes across so likeable and she has fantastic vocals too. I wish we didn't have to wait so long for a solo follow up though, March feels like ages away :( :D
January 4, 20178 yr Starving is an immense jam, the distorted vocals in the drop really do make the song for me  I was so happy to see Hailee get that deserved hit after what seemed like forever of false hopes, let's hope her Haiz era creates another smash in 2017!

He's been pretty great with the choruses on his recent singles actually, I wish he was having greater commercial success but I was surprised Magnetised actually managed top 40 tbf! Touch is amazing, I'm glad so many people seem to agree about how great it is! Alarm seems to have been a grower for basically everyone! Breathing Fire sounds so promising, been excited for months, genuinely delayed by about 6 months :drama: Starving is an immense jam, the distorted vocals in the drop really do make the song for me  I was so happy to see Hailee get that deserved hit after what seemed like forever of false hopes, let's hope her Haiz era creates another smash in 2017! January 4, 20178 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Benjamin%20-%20Body.png 30 Benjamin - Body - 10-3-4-6-8-12-15-12-14-15-22-22-29-35-38-X (15 weeks) Benjamin's already made his mark in my EOY chart earlier on, having achieved both the highest non-top 20 track with Underdogs and the highest non-charting track with Rush, and now he's here with his first single release of 2016, Body. I'd considered sending Benjamin to BJSC with Young & Restless last year but decided against it (turns out it got sent anyway and did better than my own entry Lol), so I finally took my chance with Body. Much like NO just below, it peaked at #3 in my chart behind If I Were Sorry and Work from Home, failing to become his second #1 hit but nonetheless getting a very decent chart run. The track is pure pop, packed full of fun, although the video doesn't quite live up to the promise of the artwork :kink: nonetheless, this was the moment I realised I'm fully here for Benjamin as an artist, as opposed to just a couple of tracks followed up by disappointments. svP419W9lmE http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Trevor%20Dahl%20-%20When%20You%20Come%20Home.png 29 Trevor Dahl - When You Come Home - 1-2-4-5-6-12-17-21-… (8+ weeks) From one BJSC track of mine... to another! :magic: I sent Trevor Dahl to the final contest of the year and sadly he failed to qualify, but less of the negatives and more of the positives. When You Come Home was actually released in 2014, but I didn't discover it existed until a few months back, hence it being eligible for my EOY this year! You'll know Trevor as the main vocalist in Cheat Codes - he sings on all of their UK chart hits so far. While I don't and never have liked Sex, I loved Let Me Hold You (Turn Me On) on one listen and sought out if he had any other tracks pre-Cheat Codes, and found this gem. It became one of the increasingly rare #1 debuts in my chart in 2016, entering just ahead of Let Me Hold You in fact and swapping places the week after. When You Come Home has the verses of a quirky indie-pop track, before launching into a more dance instrumental with the chorus and post-chorus, but it's Trevor's voice that shines throughout  Interestingly it sort of acts as a segue between the earlier music he made under the name Plug In Stereo, and the music he made later with Cheat Codes - whether this was intentional or not I don't know, but it's quite interesting nonetheless! A bit of a shame that he's unlikely to follow this up at any point (particularly over 2 years down the line) but at least Cheat Codes are capable of some great tracks together. 7a2A_el4tvg
