January 8, 20178 yr Author I would've thought we'd get new music from Fuse to capitalize on the success of 'Light It Up' :( He's leaving it way too late now but fingers crossed he eventually brings some more jams, and maybe even finishes his sweep of odd-number top-10 UK chart peaks *.* For some reason I couldn't get into 'Secret Love Song' while it was charting but was very much won over when I re-listened like a week ago :o Regardless of that I was happy to see it do so well for Little Mix, fantastic third era for them on the whole! Fuse has actually put out a few singles post-Light It Up! :o None of them got any commercial support though, shame really although I've not really paid them much attention oops. Better late than never for Secret Love Song I guess! *.* Was great to see it nab an official top 10 placing  Thanks Jordan :D
January 8, 20178 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Jesper%20Jenset%20-%20High.png 20 Jesper Jenset - High - 3-2-5-7-8-10-13-15-13-17-21-29-36-37-X (14 weeks) I've said already that I'm very proud of my BJSC entries from 2016, and as a result, they've had their best showing ever as a group of songs in my EOY. This is enhanced further by the fact that four of them are in the top 20! The first one is from Norwegian singer Jesper Jenset (pronounced Yesper Yenset which I found out recently, my life has been flipped on its head x), with his third single release High. His previous releases, Superhero and Never Coming Back, hit my top 10 in 2015 and featured in my last EOY chart, but High is a massive departure from the happy acoustic guitar pop that he released before. It's a noticeably darker sound, with a dance breakdown featured too. This change in sound worked wonders for him I think, as High is by far and away his best track (although the follow-up Lies felt like a weaker recreation of this). It came 9th in BJSC, giving me just my third top 10 in my 48 contests of participation, which was a total shock to me as I never expected that but it was an incredibly pleasant surprise! The one downside to this track is that the music video isn't all that great, it doesn't flow very well with the track and it really deserves better. Anyway, I hope Jesper picks up from the underwhelming Lies and continues to put out amazing tracks like this, because his album could be incredible if it's of this quality. eNJFhR4gzac http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Charlie%20Puth%20-%20We%20Dont%20Talk%20Anymore.png 19 Charlie Puth - We Don’t Talk Anymore (feat. Selena Gomez) - 1-1-3-6-10-15-21-27-31-25-27-33-X-37-X-31-35-X (15 non-consecutive weeks) Charlie Puth scored only the third #1 of 2016 with We Don't Talk Anymore, which spent 2 weeks at the summit in January. Before this, Charlie's personal best was the #15 peak of Marvin Gaye, making it his first top 10 hit, although it achieved this concurrently with One Call Away which re-entered at a new peak of #8 in the same week. Charlie teamed up with pop princess Selena Gomez, who has been hitting all of the right buttons with the Revival era and continued to do the same with this, a much more mature sounding track than its predecessors. It's more laidback in sound than Marvin Gaye and less soppy than One Call Away and whilst I like those two, it only benefits this track I think. Charlie and Selena sound great together, and it actually made #1 before it was even confirmed as a single - not getting a proper single push until it was out of my top 40! The less said about the music video, the better really, it's quite dull (much like the song at #20 lol, a recurring theme here x), and the lack of Selena doesn't help either. It was great to see it blossom into a hit in the chart anyway, spending two weeks at #14 officially, surpassing the peak of #26 achieved by One Call Away. Well worthy of its placing in my top 20 songs of the year I think, and it marks the final appearances of both Charlie and Selena in my top 250. 3AtDnEC4zak
January 8, 20178 yr Secret Love Song  Such a great tune from them. I do like Part 2, but I prefer the single version, even if I think they could have got someone better than Derulo. Youth wasn't too bad either :D Edited January 8, 20178 yr by RobinJuanPersie
January 9, 20178 yr Soo many tunes in this countdown *.* I really love a lot especially Light It Up, Secret Love Song and We Dont Talk Anymore which all made my countdown too *.* Body is a song I have loved but have underrated it and that album it is from too *.* Great write ups for Troye Sivan and Ariana Grande both have smashed it out the park for me

January 9, 20178 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/The%20Tide%20-%20Click%20My%20Fingers.png 18 The Tide - Click My Fingers - 13-1-7-4-3-9-14-19-26-29-33-34-37-32-35-34-… (16+ weeks) Breakout stars The Tide had a great 2016, and scored their first #1 with Click My Fingers in August, although it unfortunately drops out here in 18th. Click My Fingers had a bit of a weird chart run - it actually broke the record for biggest drop from #1, falling 1-7 in its third week due to six new songs climbing or entering above. It managed to re-overtake a load of those however and climb back up to the top 5 for a couple more weeks, helped partially down to me seeing them live around that point! Click My Fingers sounded like a smash hit from the moment I heard it, back in June on their "fanfest" tour, so I was delighted when it was confirmed as their first proper single (Young Love was just a free download). Unfortunately it's not really done much to help them break through commercially like I hoped it would, with a soaring drum and bass chorus that's reminiscent of Sigma (except I like this waaay more than any Sigma song). The music video is lots of fun too, and just adds to what makes this one of the biggest missed opportunities for radio stations of 2016. I'm incredibly excited to see what they bring out in 2017, and I'm already seeing them live when they support The Vamps in May so it's set to be another great year to be a fan of The Tide. 7lstgv1d6K8 http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Benjamin%20-%20Man%20On%20the%20Moon.png 17 Benjamin - Man On the Moon (feat. Sweet California) - 30-3-3-4-7-11-15-20-26-23-25-31-34-33-X (14 weeks) Benjamin's dominated the singles countdown although his highest song "only" ends up at #17, not bad though considering he's nabbed the honour of having the highest song not to make #1 in my chart! Man On the Moon got stuck at #3, behind Frans' Young Like Us and Delta Goodrem's Enough, both of whom he is ahead of in my EOY. Man On the Moon was an instant highlight from his album Fingerprints, with its uplifting message and joyous feel. Spanish girl group Sweet California feature on the track and most definitely add an extra layer to the track. I love their voices mixing with Benjamin's in the chorus, they work really well together. Man On the Moon is actually my second favourite track of his overall too now, only behind Young & Restless, which is pretty good going considering how strong his debut album is. The video is great fun too, very well suited to the track, and I can't recommend it enough if you're looking for some brand new pure pop. Zx_9xWP0aUM
January 9, 20178 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Clean%20Bandit%20-%20Rockabye.png 16 Clean Bandit - Rockabye (feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie) - 27-1-2-2-4-7-… (6+ weeks) DAILY STRUGGLE! Clean Bandit totally dominated the charts with Rockabye at the end of 2016, and it's one of three UK #1s in my top 20. Rockabye actually isn't very Clean Bandit in sound really, beyond a few snippets of strings at the beginning and end, but nevertheless it's a huge breath of fresh air amongst dance music because of its vibe and its lyrical content. The song talks about single mothers, and Anne-Marie delivers an amazing vocal to complement the lyrics really nicely. Sean Paul adds the fun factor like he does most of the time, and adds another layer to the track which I thought was unnecessary at first but is now absolutely essential. It only got 1 week at #1 in my chart compared to 9 in the UK, but it became Clean Bandit's second #1 (after Tears which is still to come), and the first for Sean Paul and Anne-Marie (Sean came close in 2012 with The Saturdays' hit What About Us, which stalled at #2 for three weeks and is the biggest #2 hit in the history of my chart). Overall it's made me really excited for what Clean Bandit will do next, as they're on fire this era and it's fantastic to see their commercial success living up to the quality of the music too. papuvlVeZg8 http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Louisa%20Johnson%20-%20So%20Good.png 15 Louisa Johnson - So Good - 13-1-1-1-2-… (5+ weeks) Clean Louisa are reunited in this section, as Louisa Johnson drops out at #15 with her first proper solo single So Good. The song became her third #1 in my chart out of a possible three singles, and nabbed the most weeks at #1 out of all of them, with a very respectable three, matching Shawn Mendes' Stitches from 2016 and beaten only by the five weeks of Frans' If I Were Sorry - no other songs got more than 2 weeks this year. So Good was an instant hit to my ears but somehow it still managed to keep growing and growing for a couple of weeks, backed up by an excellent video showing off Louisa's star quality. I never actually expected Louisa's sound to be anything like this, I thought she'd be a bit more inspired by her Clean Bandit collaboration Tears, but nevertheless I think it was an inspired choice for her first single, and it's been great to see it become a hit for her, and perhaps with a bit more time, it would have challenged for my EOY top 10. Louisa's album is one of my most anticipated 2017 releases and from what we've heard so far, it's shaping up to be very good! svhGUlB9V5U
January 10, 20178 yr 'Rockabye' certainly was a real breath of fresh air in the charts. proper amazing song there, and it'll make my EOY next year (though it did get to #201 this year from the few weeks it had before the cutoff).
January 10, 20178 yr Rockabye is one of the most feel good songs I have ever heard and tbh not even gotten old in the slightest for me can't ever seeing it getting old either tbh *.* So Good and Man On The Moon are both good pop songs!

January 10, 20178 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Tom%20Odell%20-%20Magnetised.png 14 Tom Odell - Magnetised - 14-1-2-2-6-7-10-11-5-4-7-14-18-22-31-37-X (16 weeks) The final appearance of Tom Odell in my EOY sees him at #14 with Magnetised, the lead single from the Wrong Crowd album. Whilst it wasn't the first bit of new material that we got this year (the album's title track was put out as an instant grat in advance), Magnetised really made me hyped for the album, more so than I already was. The track is different to a lot of songs on Tom's debut album, it's notably more uptempo with a soaring chorus, but it's undoubtedly still Tom, evident through the lyrics which talk about unrequited love. The video is surprisingly dark, contrasting with the uptempo pace of the track, and ultimately it all comes together to make one of his best singles so far (I'd rank it third only behind Another Love and Real Love). It was a surefire #1 in my chart in its first full week, only Tom's second #1 after Real Love. I was very surprised when Magnetised actually managed to cling onto a top 40 position officially too, I wasn't expecting it to hold on despite heavy promo (and I didn't think it would go anywhere near at the start of its chart life) but it did, definitely one of the most satisfying moments of the UK charts in 2016. 4fgzu9Fo66Y http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Major%20Lazer%20-%20Cold%20Water.png 13 Major Lazer - Cold Water (feat. Justin Bieber & MØ) - 14-1-2-2-3-10-13-18-24-27-32-34-20-26-29-39-X (16 weeks) Another satisfying chart moment was seeing this track finally bring an end to Drake's reign of terror at #1 (ignoring how it fell to #5 that week so it would've ended regardless :kink:). Major Lazer also scored a #1 in my chart, their first in fact, beating their previous personal best of #5 with Light It Up. MØ also got her first #1 after previously making #2 with her Iggy Azalea collaboration Beg For It, although it was the sixth for Justin Bieber (out of seven as Let Me Love You followed two weeks later). It actually managed fewer weeks than Light It Up in my top 40, but more in the top 10 where it matters of course. It ended up being shoved out of the top 10 sooner than I expected due to an influx of new songs (see its 3-10 fall as a prime example), but it hung around very well, even rebounding to the top 20 after I saw Justin live. I've seen a lot of people say Cold Water is quite watered down for Major Lazer but that doesn't really bother me, I only really know their chart hits I must say! Very intrigued to see if they can keep up the quality of the past two singles with the upcoming Nicki Minaj track. nBtDsQ4fhXY
January 11, 20178 yr Hi Joseph, sorry for missing so much in the past week or so ! I do thank Cold Water for FINALLY knocking off Drake from the top spot but I must admit, it's not one of my favourite number #1s of the year really, it did end up growing on me quite a lot but it was a little too slow for me almost and it was a bit infuriating because I massively preferred the MØ part and she just seemed to get tacked on the end. Not a patch on Light It Up/Lean On for me, I hope the upcoming Nicki collab is more like those. I absolutely love the back and forth between Selena and Charlie in WDTA and it makes for quite the little tune. As you say, it was great seeing the track blossom in the official charts and have some good longevity but still a bit gutted it never made the top 10, I'd listen to it any day over SYA and that was huge :(

No worries :heehee: I definitely agree that MØ just seemed a bit like an afterthought, I wish it was more of a proper duet between her and Justin :( Lean On never really clicked properly with me, I liked it but Light It Up and Cold Water are much better for me  WDTA going top 10 would've been the icing on the cake, although I never actually thought it would after it was looking to not make the top 25 play zone at one point! See You Again being his biggest hit is a bit annoying as I prefer all of his solo singles to it :(

I was interested when I saw it on a blog after loving her Kygo feature Stay, so decided to check it out and it was love at first listen. The song is incredibly catchy and infectious, and is full of attitude and personality. I sent In My Mind to BJSC in the sixth contest of the year, interestingly exactly one year after I sent her fellow Kygo collaborator Conrad Sewell, and it qualified for the final, only just missing the top 20. In my chart, it debuted at #10 just hours after me hearing it, and climbed to an easy #1 the following week. Despite a relatively brief run at #1, it's achieved something very few songs have managed in my chart's history and managed over 20 consecutive weeks in my top 40! Maty is one of my top artists to watch over 2017, and if she can keep up the quality of In My Mind, she's surely due a solo breakthrough soon. m1g4SpPGUBU http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Britney%20Spears%20-%20Make%20Me....png 11 Britney Spears - Make Me... (feat. G-Eazy) - 8-1-2-3-5-5-8-9-16-20-24-30-36-X (13 weeks) This was actually in my top 10 EOY until just recently, but I've had to knock it down a couple of places because I'm not revisiting it quite as much as the songs I've now placed above! Make Me... was the lead single from Britney Spears' ninth studio album Glory, surprise-released in July, just one week after Maty's single above actually. It nabbed a very strong #8 debut just hours after its release and climbed to become Britney's third #1 after Perfume and Pretty Girls, and G-Eazy's second #1 after You Don't Own Me. Make Me... is a notable change in sound for Britney, it's much more mature than Pretty Girls and shows that Britney is still a contender in the pop world. The track became a rather decent-sized hit in the US all things considered, although it was totally snubbed by radio in the UK (bar Capital playing it for about a week then dropping it) and became her first lead single to not just miss the top 10, but the top 40 :( Also, the video was a massive disappointment after what was promised from the original video. I guess it could've suited a more playful song on the album like Clumsy, but Make Me... needed a more sensual video than the mess we got. Nevertheless, it set us up for an amazing era from Britney, and it's her biggest hit to date in my chart! etfJCm0nfr4 NEXT: my #1 artist!
January 11, 20178 yr Author Artists http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Benjamin.png 1 Benjamin I expect most of you haven't heard a single Benjamin song in your life, or at most, the two songs of his that have been entered to BJSC, which is no surprise considering he's barely broken out of his home country Finland (bar his strangely big Spanish fanbase). Benjamin Peltonen first started making waves during 2014, when he released his debut single Underdogs, followed by Unbreakable and in 2015, his first EP was released, containing those two singles and three new tracks. The next single was Young and Restless, which is how I first heard of him, in around July 2015. The song wasn't an instant LOVE, but it drew me in for repeat listens and before long I was totally obsessed. It went on to hit #1 in my chart, and honestly, I was convinced he'd be a one hit wonder for me. Even when Unbreakable randomly clicked with me a couple of months later and became his second #1 in my chart, I wasn't sure he'd deliver much in the long term to keep me interested. How wrong I was! Benjamin kicked off 2016 with the album's proper lead single, Body. He'd delivered once again and it was at this point that I finally started becoming invested in him as an artist I think. His debut album finally followed in April, containing all previously released singles (albeit as a deluxe track in Unbreakable's case), and plenty of brand new tracks. At first I felt almost disappointed with the album, there was some goodness but none of it came close to Young and Restless at all. I'm glad I gave it a couple of relistens because I did a total 180 on the album and it made #1 in my album chart in its second week - and despite spending almost its entire run in the top 5 so far, it's only had that one week at #1 to date! Each of the album's tracks started to hit me on their own. Opening track Hold On is like something from a One Direction album, it reminds me in particular of Story of My Life actually, and it serves as the perfect album opener, a nice chilled start before we get into high energy pop tracks such as Alive and Man On the Moon, the latter of which is the closest he's come to topping Young and Restless for me. Rush is another massive highlight, with one of the biggest choruses on the album, it sounds arena-ready and if he decided to release another single, this would have been my pick. On that note, it makes me quite sad that Benjamin is barely known at all in the UK, because I would absolutely LOVE to hear this album live, but there's absolutely no chance he'll announce even one single date in the UK. Nevertheless, Benjamin's managed to deliver surprise after surprise, and Fingerprints has cemented itself alongside the likes of its fellow previous album EOY #1s, The Vamps' Meet The Vamps and Troye Sivan's Blue Neighbourhood, as one of the best debut albums of recent times. Interestingly, this is also the third year running that the artist behind my EOY #1 album has also topped my artist chart! Anyway, I cannot wait to hear what Benjamin will put out next, I am praying deep down that he'll get a push outside of Finland and Spain, because he certainly has the material and the charisma to stand alongside most global popstars. Recommendation DgejtcRYxjs Artists Recap 1 Benjamin 2 Troye Sivan 3 Ariana Grande 4 Shawn Mendes 5 All Saints 6 Tom Odell 7 Charlie Puth 8 Fifth Harmony 9 The Tide 10 Ryan Lawrie
